Howdy y'all,

I had proposed to Andy Hall at SG the possibility of making a sprue that would be entirely Necron Warriors a.k.a. the old Chaos Androids.  This would be nothing fancy, nothing added, nothing new.  Just Chaos Androids.  Here was his reply:
Hi William,

the odds are very low of Fanatic doing something like this ourselves. Tooling a sprue up like that would literally costs thousands of pounds (not including production time. Despite the demand on eBay it is extremely doubtful we could recuperate that amount back, let alone the get the margins we need to make it a viable product.

Cheers
Andy

While it is quite possible Andy is right, I wanted to give the community an opportunity to speak on the matter.  If there were indeed a large interest, it could make Andy (and GW) rethink this one little project.

So please vote realistically (in other words, don't say you'd want three orders if you couldn't afford them).

Gracias.

I'd buy at least 2.  Maybe more.  It would save me alot of trouble stripping and rebasing some of the Chaos androids I've accumulated.

I've never been a big fan of Necrons but if the infantry was readily available I just might be tempted to start an army.
As a side note: Has anyone asked FW about their position on this? Although plastic infantry would be much preferable to resin, the resin moulds would be considerably cheaper to set up...

I've asked FW's guys about Necrons; They're too spindly to consider in resin.

Moscovian: When Andy says 'sprue'... he means plastic sprue, right? Metal Sprues don't cost 'thousands of pounds' as far as I know....

As far as I know he meant plastic.  The email was really about just using what they have right now (the old Chaos Androids) and mass producing them, nothing more.  I figured it would have the best chance of success given the limits SG has on it currently.

Not to sound biased.... probably impossible in this instance

But Dark Realm Andrayada infantry make great Necrons.

No need to wait for SG to make them as they are mostly already here.

Hmmm... Well to me the mail seems to suggest that they should make a plastic mould. However metal moulds would still be much cheaper than a plastic mould -hence why SG originally wanted to make all Epic infantry metal to begin with for the release of E:A.
Metal Necrons would be very cool too: Just a single blister of say 8 stands like Terminators, scouts and Stormtroopers...
They'd be dead easy to paint as well: Just give them a black wash and voila: Done! The fastest painted infantry in the history of the game :D

I think you should mail him again and say 'what about metal?'.

That one might actually be possible.

E&C, I will send him the suggestion.  I just want to send it with some positive data (if it is forthcoming, anyway).

PG, first off it is good to see you back on the forums these days.  As for the Andrayadas I agree with you that they make excellent proxies (take a look at my Necron Lords in the picture above).  But the Chaos Androids are better and, ultimately I would like to see Specialist Games succeed, if at nothing else than producing the models we all enjoy.

IMO this will send a clear message, we don't need you but we want you.

If SG released a blister of metal Necron (Chaos Android) figures, say a formations worth, I would definitely buy them, possibly as many as half a doz.; after all, earlier this year I bought 6 of the Chaos sets, the hoarder that I am :D and Necrons would be a very cool Epic army to do.  After my Chaos, Orks, 3 Marine armies, 2 Guard armies, AMTL... :;):

I like them for Immortals (they are pointer :-) but I didn't think they made nice rank and file troops. They do have that nasty pose though that makes them look nice ranked up

I think Andy's "plastic" comment is due to the fact that the original Chaos Androids were done on a plastic sprue and they would either have to modify that mould or resculpt them

I'd guess that if they ever did do something like this it would be via a resculpt.

Why...they've re-released heaps of their old plastics as metal figures and I doubt any were resculpted. ?A blister of metals aka Terminators/Scouts/Dire Avengers/Ork Bikeboys etc. makes sense and surely wouldn't cost "thousands of Pounds". ?I'd think they'd recoup costs in an eye-blink.

Yeah a single metal blister would be the way to go I think.

And if it was successful could lead to other ranges being done in metal (especially if they have few infantry models).
