Hmm rules wise it should have half the shots as a Hydra.

Ruleswise it is a Twin-Autocannon with the ability to shoot at AA targets.


So:   AP4+ / AT5+  /  AA5+   45cm


Which, incidentally, is a exact same stat as a single Hydra shot.


I'd go with:

- Speed Zero
- Armour Zero
- CC Zero
- FF 5+
- Sabre Twin Autocannon- AP4+/AT5+/AA5+   45cm range



Make 'em an Upgrade available to Companies.

3 for X points.

Cut the range to 30cm. It shouldn't be able to shoot farther than a Hydra.
And FF shcoud be 6+. The hydra has already FF5+ and its has double the number of shots AND a HeavyBolter.

And i would make it a separate formation. With mive 0 and no vehicle able to transport it (and it doesn't look at it could bemoved anyway) it is more a hindrance than a benefit.

It is truely a defensive platform.

Hydras also shoot 45cm.

They're armed with the same weapon don't forget.


And FF shcoud be 6+

Though maybe a Hydra should be FF4+  :D

Opps...i looked at speed (30cm) and not the range :D Ok you're right 45cm range then :)

Well...it could be a formation wich is permanently on overwatch (well not really permanently, once it shoots on ground units it has spend its overwatch action). So not useable as activation booster.
Buyable with the same budged for fortifications.

The Hydra autocannon is longer barrle/better whatever.

Otherwise they would just have autocannon.

I'm sticking with inf, 0cm move, no save, no cc, ff6+, twin autocannon 45cm AP4+/AT5+/AA6+

Tis either 30cm AA5+ or 45cm AA6+.

Either is easy to do - 30cm for a 360 AA weapon or AA6+ because a single autocannon wouldn't have AA6+ as tis unsuitable.

I'd be okay with a single shot at 30cm AA5+, as the Hydra is supposed to have a longer range than a normal Autocannon. Unfortunately all Autocannons have a range of 45cm in Epic, whether infantry-lugged or Hydra-based.

A single AA6+ shot at 45cm would be unrepresentative IMHO. If you want to go to 45cm, it'd have to be 2x AA6+ shots.


By pure stats, it should have 45cm, AA5+.

Nah - if it is AA5+ at 30 it wouldn't go to 2xAA6+ at 45 as its twin.

You could rationalise it as Autocannon AA is 30cm AA6+, or 45cm 0 and when twin 30cm AA5+, or 45cm AA6+

Hydra after all have 'special' autocannon written as

2 x Twin Hydra Autocannon 45cm AP4+/AT5+/AA5+

They are twin autocannons on an AA mount, what about:

The Hydra has what look like search and fire control radars. Also as a weapons platform it is likely much more stable. Thus->better AA stats.

In comparison the Sabre is directed by the Mk1 Eyeball of the guardsman and is aimed using his muscle power.

Is there a precedent for twin-linked autocannon stats? Otherwise it might also be OK at 4+/6+/6+, as AT5+ would make it into quite an effective AT platform too.

The precedent for all twin weapons in Epic is that they get plus-one to-hit.


So yeah, it will have a semi-decent AT value when sustaining.
