I finally decided to try out a Berlin urban camo scheme on a DRM hammerjack, and I've got the base colours on. Before I go on with highlights and/or shading, I thought I'd post pics and gather opinions.
http://www.cheddarmongers.org/prod....pg.html http://www.cheddarmongers.org/prod....pg.html
The photos came out a little bright. The 'white' and red are GW's new foundation Astronomicon grey and Mechrite red, respectively, and look better IRL. I think I'll shade those two. The black will be highlighted with dark blue, as per the previous scheme.
There's something not quite right, IMO, but I'm not sure what it is - apart from looking like a lego model. After taking another look at RL examples here, I think I might reduce the size of the blocks, make them more 'blocky' (in terms of shape and arrangement), introduce more red (I included a little to have red somewhere, but in hindsight it seems conspicuous by it's... brevity; and Jane's Tank Recognition Guide has pics of a forest-camo Polish tank with a similar red which looks good. But I digress), and just plain plan it a little bit better.
I'm looking for hefty critiques here, so please don't hesitate to be harsh.

Hi Vermis,
I had a quick look, closed the window to check your other links & now it wont open again!
From what I did see, I think you are correct that it would benefit from having more blocks in a smaller size.
I was going to say its a shame the colours are flat, in comparison to the nice dpeth you achieved on your previous models, but I see you're planning on upgrading that element already.
Overall, I really like it. I was thinking of doing similar, but time constraints lead me to a far faster scheme without the rigid shapes ( my workbench thread on the DRM forums ). It would be cool if you could post, your pics over there, or post a link back to the discussion here so others can see the great work you've done on the DRM stuff

I like this version
http://www.cheddarmongers.org/prod....pg.html
the best of the three you did. Not sure if its just the camera or what. The lack of the white squares seems to make the rest of the ?paint scheme blend together better

Doesn't really work for me. I think the scheme is probably quite effective, but it's main purpose is to break up the outline of the vehicle.....which is something I don't think you actually want to do for a miniature to look good on the table.

Maybe use an off-white instead of a solid white?

I really like it. Almost looks like Dazzle. Actually I was chatting with someone who was going to do a Warlord in Dazzle, I think it could really work.

THey all Look good. The red is too red in the pics, verses what it really looks like. As you said. The "problem" with 6mm is if you make the camo too small it is "lost". So the block size works for me. But again, the red should be (and may be) more like a red or rust brown. And if I use white, I wash over it with a thin blank wash. And/or use an off white ... As PG mantioned.

What L4 said, you need a red that more of a brick shade than screaming eyeball blood red. I don't know how much camo painting you've done before this, but it can be a pain. The problem is, the whole idea behind camo is to make something look flat and blend in which goes completely counter to everything we learn about painting minis. Darklining or washing the panels and such will do a lot to bring the depth back out without removing the camo effect. If you're interested I did an article on painting camo on Reaper's website a while back. I've got lots of camo stuff in my photobucket gallery if you want to see how I paint it (not that it's the best or only way).

problem is that at this scale you usualy want to make frame more wisible, becouse vehicle could become unrecognisable bloob
thats problem i struggle with my historicals
if i paint the correct camo they hides well on table but looks uncool...

The red needs to be toned down a little, but otherwise I like them.
