Good new for anyone wishing they had gotten aboard the Cold Navy transport when it put out a couple years back, Ravenstar Studios has been given the rights to produce and expand the line for four years.

Anyone else ever do this: think about something from the past couple of months, Google it, and find some new action has been taken with it in the past couple of days?  It's like I have a seventh sense... I call it my nerd sense.

Ravenstar studios? The resin fellow from the Dallas/Fort-Worth metroplex?

You know, I should really look that guy up. He might have some good tips and techniques for me.

Ya, the same guy who used to cast all the 1/1400 Star Trek stuff.  He's sold that off to another company now and many makes BSG now.  And Cold Navy ships :-D.

This makes me very very happy.  I was quite upset when Xtreme Hobbies stopping selling them as I had only managed to get a pack of two Mauridian frigates.

I too am delighted - the decision to not produce the models was moronic.

Now its in the hands of an enthusiast too, so the dedication is there.

I'll be saving my sheckles for these ranges!

I have already gushed about this on SCN so will try not to overdo it. The fact that anybody will be doing Cold Navy ships is good news. The fact that it is Ravenstar, a fellow gamer & enthusiast is great news. The fact that he will be releasing both exisiting ships and new designs is totally awesome news!!

Yes Chris aka Ravenstar is the guy who used to make some Star Trek 1:1400 scale ships and who sold them onto to Starship Creations back in March 2006. However Chris could n't keep away from Star Trek and has continued to design & release new models for Feds, Klingons & Romulans, with most recent being some 1:1400 scale Wolf 359 ships. I have begged him to do these in 1:2500 scale- as soon as he does my credit card will take serious damage.

As well as doing larger kits Chris aka Ravenstar also does many starships in more gaming scale. ?I have bought virtually all of his designs- when you consider that these are fan produced the quality is amazing. Apart from having to scrape off the odd bit of resin shaving I would say his quality is as good anything commercially produced, at least equal even to the likes of Forgeworld.

And his new Cylon Worldstar is just frakkin amazing:

Comparison is old TOS BSG Cylon basestar.

Specifically on Cold Navy I know the range is in safe hands. I am luckly enough to be one of the few to have already got my hands on some never released Kharadorn Battlecruisers and a Kharadorn Battleship. These were never released by Cold Navy but I beleive would have been part of wave 2.0. The quality is amazing and they fit in so perfectly with the rest of the Kharadorn fleet that CN released.

So CN is in great hands.

Did I mention that I am quietly stoked by the news!!!

Hi Dave

So far of the Wolf-359 ships he has done in 1400 scale:
Springfield, Challenger, and Freedom. Plus the New Orleans IIRC

He has also done in 1:2500 some TNG similar style ships including Ronin, Scorpion, Chandley B, Baker C and others. There are all his own designs- they look OK but IMO not as good as the more offical deaigns. So far I don't think he has done any from FASA TNG Technical manual.

I have been pushing him to do Springfield, Freedom. and New Orleans in 1;2500 scale. His answer was "maybe late in the year".

As for the Kharadorn BB/BC I would bet money on them being released soon. I guess whilst ownership of CN was being sorted would have been hard for him to put pre-release models on general sale. Now he can produce all CN ships....

So, just how large is a Trek 1:1400, as compared to a 1:2500?

P.S. - Looking for more of an absolute measurement, not "they're 56% shorter".

1/2500 are of sizes you would contribute to BFG models, anywhere from 1/4" for fighters to 3" for the capital ships.  1/1400 models usually range from 3-6" in size.

Cold Navy, Ninja Magic and even Reaper have really shown how nice miniatures made using CAD software can be.
