out of interest would the rhino be too given that m113's were (not suggesting that there any link there *cough*)...

IIRC in 40k Rhinos are not amphibious.

"Siege regiments seldon use tanks en masse, but split up tank companies to support infantry assaults across the no-man's land."

That is in the generic tank section, but not in the siege tank section. So perhaps the Thunderer and Demolisher (the siege tanks) should be only things that are available to the tank formation?

Judging by the verbage, if anything it would be the other way around.

I doubt I'll change the basic structure of the tank squadrons though.

Ok, perhaps add regular russ as well. And rest only in upgrade part? And drop the Destroyer completely as it's listed only as a thing that they use if they get their hands on it (isn't even in the 40k list btw).

I may drop the destroyer, as it isn't in the 40k list.

Well, in this case, the 40K fluff should be our guide ... So Rhinos & Preds can ford, but not amphibs as Hena mentioned. And only standard Chimeras can swim ...  Yes ? ???

Yep, only standard Chimeras and Gorgons are fully amphibious (IE: They float).

That probably means that they have a secondary propulsion system for movement in water.

Rhinos & Land Raiders can ford to decent depths (IIRC one of the Imperial Armour books mentions Snorks too), but aren't true amphibs.

-----

How about this for an Amphibious special rule:

Amphibious: A vehicle with this rule may cross water-type terrain features (Lakes, Rivers etc) as if it were open ground.

Possibly also include: with the caveat that the vehicle's movement speed is halved.

Gorgons ??  Fluff ?!  Yep, Amphibs float ... usually ...    And that rule makes sense to me ... without being too detailed.

Land Raiders can actually seal themselves and 'ford' any body of water.  Back when the new model was released there was a story of a Land Raider sans crew that eventually crawled its way out of the bottom of a bog, using little bits of energy to do it.  I suspect a Rhino could do a similar thing, but would not last as long.

Sorry was a little off topic.

Including amphibious as a rule could lead to interesting terrain effects.

Ford is not the right word since it can sink to the bottom of it and traverse at least for the Land Raider.

No you were right, "ford" is correct. Fording Depth is how deep a vehicle can go before it is "swamped".  The M1 MBT fording depth is just over a meter unpreped and almost 2 meters preped. The tracks are actually moving over the bottom of the stream.  Where the M113 is Amphibious. It has a plywood trim vane in front and when deployed, it acts like a boat's bow. And its tracks are not touching the bottom of the body of water.  It is "swimming" ...  So there is a different between fording and Amphibious ...   IMO, it is not really off topic.  We would do a Dangerous Terrain Test, to see if the stream/river was fordable, for non- Amphib.  And amphib would just cross as above, but they had to start the turn next to the body of water, then cross.   :)

World you like my 'directors cut' version of the siegers - the pdf version as it were?

I'm sorry I missed you saying this before TRC... I'd love a copy, thanks.

I am entirely in support of a 20cm move for gorgons. Having seen them used in a lot of games now, they seemto be frankly a liability. I can't understand the point of taking a transport that moves no quicker than the troops inside, and doesn't really provide enough protection since the troops inside are all but dead when it inevitably is targetted and destroyed.

As they are now I wouldn't ever bother with them. A 20cm move at least gives them some tactical usage.

They are fresh and bouncy when they get out to fight :)
