Imperial Armor Vol 5

Does anybody have this yet? If so, how does it compare to volume 3 (Taros campaign) with respect to -

1) Size
2) Coolness
3) Absolutely unforgivably abundant typos.

I feel like I should get some sort of consolation product from Forge World for selling Volume 3 with truly abysmal spelling and grammar errors.

1) Size

A bit smaller, but larger than IA:4.

2) Coolness

It has DEATH KORPS...

DEATH KORPS!

3) Absolutely unforgivably abundant typos.

A lot less, but they're still in there (I found three just browsing for five minutes)...

Hopefully its as good a read as the Taros campaign was.  Mine is stuck in the courier companies office until monday when I can pick it up.

Do they even actually hire an editor?  I would get Kim to help me edit all the typos out if they gave me a free copy of the book.

And I used to proofread for Task Force Games. Lack of labor shouldn't be their excuse.

IA5 is more IA4 sized than IA3 sized, maybe 2/3 as thick as IA3.

The first 100 or so pages contain lots of fluff, then it has the usual technical readout section which thankfully isn't the whole book anymore (like IA1 and 2.  It then goes into army lists and a bunch of scenarios.

Unfortunately their isn't any real specific SG gaming infomation but their is a nice background and I am sure we could use it for a bit of inspiration.

I would actually be keen on making up some EA scenarios to go with it sort of an unofficial SG suplement to the campaign.

Don't know about the slplelllling satndadrs yet as I ahve'nt had a cahcne to read it yet :) but my guess is that they are the same as usual from every other book FW have released.

I used to proofread for Agents Of Gaming.  You are right, lack of labor should not be an excuse.

Doing that taught me that there are a lot of people out there who are just poor at paying attention to details, some shockingly so.  I would have that producing your own wargaming products would have engendered a sense of pride.  You know, if you are going to slap your name and reputation on a product you want it to be the best possible.  Nope.

The biggest problem I found with AOG was that you can highlight and point out spelling problems as much as you like, but if they don't care or forget to update the spelling then all is for nothing.  You would think that there would be a spell-checker program that would point out the mistakes, right?  WRONG!!!  These guys would type stuff directly into the page layouts instead of something like MS Word, completely bypassing any spell-checking.

What was even more aggravating is that I wrote a supplement for them that they printed.  (GROPOS: Narn book)  But before it was to go to press they would not let me look at it to double-check and edit stuff.  Never mind that I was the most familiar with the material, they thought that I would be too-biased in my work, or some such hooey.  So guess what happened?  My book was the most mistake riddled book that they ever made.  I was so mad that I was the one who eventually collated the corrections and answered all of the FAQ.

Back on topic...

Is there anything in the book that would be of interest to Epic gamers?

I'm hoping someone scans the part of the size comparison page with the Macharius, so that our ambitious scratch builders can get some reference material.

It is a large scale battle fought with masses of troops so you could definitely fit some epic battles into the campaign.  The storyline certainly suits the scale.

I have been impressed with the spelling and grammer so far it is definitely lots better than IA3 and other Forge World books that I have read.  I also noted that there were three or four proof readers this time.  Maybe the do listen to feedback :).

If that's the case, then there's no need for me to delay my purchase.

Credit card, to the rescue!

On scenarios: How are the BFG scenarios in IA3?

Received yesterday. I perused it for awhile, and noticed no typos. This is good, because IA3's typos became apparent in a minute.

Very sad - there's no size comparison appendix in this one, like in all the other IA books. Hopefully they'll rectify this in IA6.

A new feature that I liked is a three-quarters view of the Gorgon. I wish they would go all the way and offer line drawings in top / back / front views, rather than merely the side view.

One pleasant surprise was a new pattern for the Earthshaker that I hadn't seen anywhere else on the net.
