As has been discussed elsewhere, many think that that's an overly-harsh penalty on flame weapons

ROFL! Others think the double up rule is too much!

Think of it this way - when you're submerged in a vat of boiling oil, would you be any less screwed if someone where to throw another boiling vat of oil on you? No. There's only so much cooking you can do :D

Artillery explosions are a different kettle(vat?? :D ) of fish. Explosives tend to have expanding shock waves that expand and can overlap - carrying shrapnel with them. Detonate an explosion on your left side and you get hit by shrapnel from the left. Drop another on your right at the same time and you get hit from both sides simultaneously meaning twice as much damage simultaneously.

Look I know we hate to bring realism into gaming but it just makes sense - well at least to me....

ROFL!

No need to ROFL at me... a teardrop template represents multiple impacts, just as a round template also represents multiple impacts... therefore a higher BP (or whatever) on a teardrop template would represent a more concentrated barrage of mutagenic hyper-acid.

So it still might not kill that terminator squad... but they'll pick up an extra blast marker or two because they're under a much heavier attack...

Would you be okay with something like:

single hits only (something like hena's rule*)
+1BM per additional flamer template targetting the formation

*"hena's rule" sounds an awful lot like "Amanda's law" to me for some reason...

I would support such a wording right now, and I'd be happy to start testing it.

I'd recommend posting this suggestion on the SG site where they are discussing the flame template as, currently, there's no Tyranid unit with multiple flame templates.

I do like it.

Would hardly make it worth using two templates?

What is Amanda's law?

Markconz:  You'd still get to place both templates, so you'd still hit more units.  The extra BM is to offset the fact that additional templates wont' usually cover as many targets as the first template.

"Amanda's Law" is a law in several US states that says killing a pregnant woman counts as 2 deaths, regardless of the stage of pregnancy.  The "Amanda" was a pregnant woman brutally killed and mutilated.  She was pregnant at the time but the state she was in (Texas, I think) didn't recognize early term pregnancy as an additional murder.  The news story got traction, fueled public outrage and the law was born.  The Pro-life side of the abortion debate picked up on it as a way to legally define early stage pregnancies as involving a second human being.  They joined forces with victims' rights groups and lobbied to pass similar laws in other states.
