Well, haven't played a lot of EPIC lately, but I think about it every day!  *laugh*

Pipboy and I have been working on modelling some resin scenery lately; I modelled up some fortifications and bunkers, we cast them up, and they were finally put to the test!

Siegemasters haven't really made much of a showing in our local gaming group, so my opponent was quite surprised to see them.

Not sure if I'll get it all done tonight, but let's begin anyway!

Battlefield:

4x6
Biel-Tan chose long edge deployment.

Deployment:

The Wraithship was given an orbital bombardment load-out and tasked to arrive Turn 1.

The Windriders and Aspect Warhost were kept in the Wraithgate.

Biel-Tan garrisoned the Rangers in cover and in overwatch.

Siegemasters garrisoned both Heavy Tank Platoons on overwatch.  Rough Riders 1 and the Light Tank Platoon were also garrisoned.

Remaining deployment as shown below:

Epic- A version of the game with even smaller models that is often dominated by titans which are vehicles the size of a large building and have the ability to pwn...everything. There is also infantry, whose only function in Epic is to provide valuable traction to Titans walking across snowy paths.

Turn 1

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Wraithship unleashes hell on the Siegemasters as the Orbital Bombardment engulfs Infantry Company 2. ?They are savaged, losing their Commander, 2 Rapiers, 2 Snipers, and 6 Siege Infantry. ?The survivors break, fleeing towards the nearby fortifications, cursing their commanding officers.


(So, yeah, my cunning plan didn't work out so well. ?*laugh* ?I wanted to paint an obvious target for the OB up on "Hero's Hill with the bunkers and stuff, and then not put anything in many of them, marching into them in the first turn. ?My first mistake was forgetting that the "support weapons" only have a 10cm move; if I'd recalled that, I wouldn't have tried this unusual deployment. ?My second mistake was not realizing the intimidating appearance of all those fortifications, my opponent deliberately didn't target them because he didn't think he'd be able to do much damage if he hit units in them, so he opted to just try his luck hammering the open area in the middle of my deployment zone? lucky indeed! ?*laugh*)

The Siegfrieds advance and fire on the Dark Reaper Troupe, placing a single Blast marker.

The Revenant Titans leap over buildings to advance on Rough Rider 1, wiping it out in searing flashes of laser light and missile blasts. ?*OUCH*

Infantry Company 1 sustains fire on the Rangers, killing 3 and breaking them? and the Eldar move closer to the Imperials!

Swords of Vaul 2 tries to advance, but fails and snaps some shots off at the Light Tank Platoon, trashing 2 Siegfrieds.

Heavy Tank Platoon 2 rumbles forward on an advance and is able to target the Revenants. ?The second of the two lithe Titans takes 2DC damage and loses its Holofield. ?Woohoo!

The Reaper Troupe tries to engage the Siegfrieds, but falls to get motivated and their Falcons just fire? taking out 3 of the light tanks and forcing the survivor to flee.

Thunderbolt Squadron 1 dives down to attack the Revenants. ?One of the brave pilots is shot down on approach, but the other scores a telling hit on the second Revenant, bringing it crashing down and breaking the other. ?WOOHOO!

Swords of Vaul 1 double to fire on Infantry Company 1 and take out 1 Rapier.

The Sappers double forward to flame the Rangers, taking out 1 via fear. ?(This was somewhat odd, as we discovered that, with their 10cm zone of control, you can't get close enough to shoot scouts that are hunkered down in terrain due to 10cm LOS! ?There was slightly less than 10cm of terrain in the way to one unit of the Rangers because of the "cross" shape of the building, but the Sappers couldn't get near enough to the other ones to shoot them. ?Very odd?)


The Guardians march forward, grabbing cover.

Thunderbolts 2 dive in to fire on the broken Revenant, but its holofields protect it.

The zippy Aspect Warhost races out of the Wraithgate on a double and gets the Sappers in the Swooping Hawks' zones of control.

Heavy Tank Co 1 doubles to fire on the Aspect Warhost, placing a single Blast marker.

The Supreme Commander encourages his HQ to sustain fire on the broken Revenant, and the eventually do, but they do no damage.

Rough Riders 2 march after the battered Revenant, chasing it like wolves after a wounded animal?

End of Turn:

Both squadrons of aircraft pick up Blast markers on the way out.

The Rangers and SoV 2 fail to regroup, even with the help of the now onboard Autarch.

The lone Siegfried fails to rally.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Revenant makes a slight rearward advance and fires on Rough Riders 2, but only manages to vapourize 2 units of the horsemen.

Swords of Vaul 1 advances to catch Heavy Tank Platoon 1 in a crossfire with the Aspect Warhost and eliminates 3 Ragnaroks, breaking the tanks which rumble away.


The Windrider Troupe has some difficulty with the Wraithgate and even the Autarch's advice to "Just jiggle the handle!" doesn't provide fast enough results so they just manage to move out of the Gate, towards the Sappers and the Aspect Warhost.

Grinning maniacally, the survivors of Rough Rider 2 engage the remaining Revenant, just getting into support range of the nearby Aspect Troupe.  


With nine 4+ attacks (4 first strike, 4 normal, and 1 macro-weapon) the mounted warriors knock 2DC off the Titan and suffer no damage in return, easily winning and causing the Titan to fall back.  WOOT!

The Sappers then rush forward to engage the intermingled Aspect Warhost and the Windriders, basing the Swooping Hawks.  


The Sappers wind up being saps, scoring only two hits, taking out the Swooping Hawks before they are pushed back, losing 4 of their number.  The victorious Eldar rapidly reposition themselves for maximum carnage.

The Shining Spears leap upon Heavy Tank Platoon 2 with the support of the Windriders.  


All six of the bulky Imperial tanks are wiped out and another unit of Sappers flees the scene.

Infantry Company 1 sustains fire on Swords of Vaul 1 and takes out both Firestorms and 1 Fire Prism, breaking the Eldar grav-tanks.

The Aspect Troupe wipes out Rough Riders 2 with a firefight assault.

Infantry Company 2 sustains fire on the Aspect Warhost, placing a single Blast marker.

The Guardian Warhost marches up into "X"-shaped building, getting dug into cover.

The Regimental HQ sustains fire on the Aspect Warhost, taking out 1 Shining Spear and breaking the proud Eldar.

Swords of Vaul 2 tries to marshal, but fails to get moving and regroups instead, clearing all Blast markers.

Thunderbolt Squadron 1 stands down.

Thunderbolt Squadron 2 strafes the Aspect Warhost, taking out 2 Shining Spears and the Autarch's unit?

End of Turn:

Thunderbolts 2 gets back to base unscathed.

The Aspect Warhost and SoV 1 fail to rally.

The Sappers and Heavy Tank Platoon 1 also fail to rally.

The Avatar is summoned right into the thick of things.


Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Guardians try to advance into a better position, but the death of the Autarch has shaken them. ("I didn't see *that* coming," says the Farseer)  The manage to get some shots off against the broken Heavy Tank Platoon and cause one crew to abandon their vehicle.

Infantry Company 1 engages the Avatar in a firefight, they lose 2 Siege Infanty bit do 1 DC to the fearsome creature breaking it? and it moves closer!!!


Infantry Company 2 advances to get a superior vantage point on the Windriders, securing Siege Objective 1, and dropping 1 Jetbike and 1 Vyper with their efforts.

The Reaper Troupe doubles to grab Siege Objective 2 and also eliminates the lone Siegfried as they drive by.

Thunderbolt 1 hits the Windriders, doing no damage, but breaking them, and is shot down on its way out.

The Rangers double forward and the plinking of their longrifles cause another Ragnarok crew to bail, leaving only the Commissar's tank.

The Regimental HQ doubles to contest Siege Objective 2 and take out 1 Falcon and 1 Dark Reaper.

Swords of Vaul 2 advance, to fire on the Sappers, causing another to flee.

The Revenant advances right into the middle of the anti-air umbrella provided by the Firestorms and also fires on the Sappers, eliminating them.

Thunderbolt Squadron 2 drops down on the Reaper Troupe, taking out 2 Falcons, breaking them, and clearing the enemy from Siege Objective 2?

End of Turn:

Again Thunderbolts 2 gets back to base unscathed.

The Dark Reapers and the Windriders fail to rally, as does the lone Ragnarok.

Swords of Vaul 2 advance to fire on Infantry Company 2, placing a single Blast marker.

The damaged Revenant then engages the entrenched Infantry Co 2, with the support of SoV 2.  A lucky shot takes out the Eldar Titan and it crashes to the earth, doing no damage and shaking the nearby grav-tanks.

(My opponent really took a risk there, but with the Sieger's low FF, the high Holo-field save, and the nearby support, he thought he had a good chance of shifting the hunkered down Imperials? he thought wrong!  *laugh*)

The Guardian Warhost then engages Infantry Company 1 in a massive firefight.  Three Guardians, 1 Heavy Weapon, and 1 Support Weapon are casualties, but the Siegers are routed, losing 4 Siege Infantry, 2 Snipers, 2 Thudd Guns, and 2 Rapiers in the end!  The Eldar move to claim the Siegemaster Blitz.


Infantry Company 2 sustains fire on Swords of Vaul 1, taking out a Fire Prism and breaking them.

The Shining Spears make a pincer attack against Infantry Company 2 with the support of Swords of Vaul 2.  They lose 1 Shining Spear, but wipe out the Siegemaster infantry.


The Regimental HQ hesitates and then doubles, keeping some units on Siege Objective 2 and also wiping  out the remaining Shining Spears.

The Thunderbolts dive bomb Swords of Vaul 2, taking out 2 grav-tanks and breaking the survivors?

End of Turn:

Again Thunderbolts 2 gets back to base unscathed.

The Dark Reapers and the Windriders do manage to rally this time, but the last Ragnarok fails again.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun.

I think this has been only the second time that the Siegers have been played in our group.  I think I'll take them for another spin again soon!
