I have been introducing the kids to a favourite anime from my youth - Star Blazers! ?:D

There are heaps of episodes loaded up at Utube if you are interested.

Ive been so taken with this journey back to my youth that I started thinking when my eye fell on my gaming star mat in the garage. So...

Has anyone played the Starblazers game? ?Or got any minis? ?They look very nice but you seem to be paying top $ per lb of mini. ?Apparently thereis some nice plastic versions out too.

Apparently this is aka "Space Battleship Yamato". The minis look tempting, but are somewhat expensive. And the rulebook & supplements are not exactly cheap either.  However, some of the minis do include photoetched parts!!!

Damn you! More temptations.    Must...resist...must...not..buy...more...games...I'll...never...play...  :O

Nothing helps temptation like spreading it around! Linky link!

Hi Tas,

It has a cult following in my neck of the woods...

I tried out a beginner game years ago and it didn't do much for me.

I'll see if I can hook you up with the right guys.

By the way, they all post at Star Rangers if you want to get a bigger response.

The minis are nice... but very expensive.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

The minis do look lovely though.

There are some plastic jobs from bandai - I wonder if they are the same scale? ?They may also be a bit more resilent to inquisitive little fingers

These just look great actually:

I used to RUN home from elementary school to watch Star Blazers. If I was lucky my father wasn't home yet and I could get the big TV, otherwise I was stuck watching it on the old black&white.

Heading for a distant star,
Heading off to Ishkandar,
Leaving all we love behind,
Who knows what dangers will find?
We're off to outer space,
To save the human race,
If we don't in just one year,
Mother Earth will disappear!

Sad that I remember the freakin lyrics to Starblazers, but there you go...

I took a look at the minis and they are really nice looking.  MaksimSmelchak, what about the game seemed deficient?  Just curious...

The miniatures are very good, but much smaller than a lot of other spaceships in my collection.

If it should ever so happen that I send you another package, I'll include a spare or two.

thanks for the info guys.  If I get a handle on some of the plastic collectables I may give it a go using the trusty old FT rules.  Otherwise, I think that they have priced themselves abov a passing interest level of necessary cash commitment (nice as they are)

Ottoman - you are a true gentleman!

i have never played the rules but have used the figures in a full thrust version of Robotech... some of them made nice proxies for Invid, Masters and Zendrani warships.... i may have to find if i still have my old Veri-tech fighters now!
