I know this is probably too late Firestorm but 8x4 is cool if you have the space. More room for the dead pile, books etc!

I'm with Mephiston. I've always found it handy to have a little extra room for the reason he suggested. Nice boards, BTW.

Also, for the ruins (and other terrain), try mounting it on plasticard in the future. Plasticard usually doesn't warp when you paint it.

Good suggestions:  I must confess I've gone with 6x4 for the simple reason it means I can cram more boards in to our gaming area...

As for plasticard bases, I actually came across someone who can supply big sheets of foam board at a very reasonable price, cheaper than plasticard in the same quantity; when you've got to make 36+++ Epic building features, that would mean a lot of plasticard...  :O

Any-hoo, first base 95% finished - apart from adding some water effects to the pond on the bottom right:



I've been careful not to make this and the four craters too defined, so that players of Epic or any other game from 2mm-10mm will be able to 'disguise' them with terrain pieces if they feel they're not appropriate to whatever game they're playing.  Hope that makes sense! :D

Next I'm going to concentrate on getting some Woods & Jungle done, which will include some Epic scale ones - pics Wednesday/Thursday.

That's a good reason to go with foam board.  :p

Nice looking board, BTW. Good idea making it as scale generic as possible.

I had some small terrain where the corners warped up - so I got some Woodland Scenics extra course/clump foliage and super glued it on the bottom and top. So it looks like just more "bushes" ! :D

Sergeant_Crunch, your suggestion was simply genius - I am in your debt sir! :) I painted several of the warped bases with watered down PVA, and they straightened out almost perfectly.  I did one with paint, but it required two coats to get it right.

Anyway, I tinkered to the board today adding a few more patches of grass and a pool of water.  I also started on the trees - all 15mm upwards, I should do some 6mm/Epic-scale ones to take pics on Thursday.

Thanks, CC! :) Here's the first of the Epic scale wood-land (complete with 'Stunt' Marines :p ):



Some of the trees look wonky because i have to fasten them under the base where the metal wire pokes through.  Masking tape a-go-go! :D

I'll do some more of these then I'll be moving on to Epic-scale Jungle sections.

And I really should get painting those Epic Ruins I made, too...
