Dont you just get sick to the back teeth of GW re-releasing WFB for the nth time? What is this, the 7th edition?? I refuse to buy it, I'll jolly well keep using the last version, which I'm told isnt significantly different from the new version. The reason of course is they always bring out the army books I'm interested in last - namely the wood elves, then I get about a month's use out of the army book before they redo the damn rules!! This happened with the previous edition of WFB - the wood elf book came out last and I ended up wasting my money, again. And another thing, if anyone else says 'oh well, you can always keep your previous army book(s) for background/ reference etc' I think I may strike them with said useless books.
There! Thats better, hope someone from GW reads this and PAYS ATTENTION

Aksing GW to stop recycling rules! They didn't get to where they are today by listening to the users and I'm sure they won't start now.

I for one like it when they re-release the rules - generally fixes niggly things that everyone knows is wrong. I was waiting for the 4th ed 40K codex for a LONG time as that was badly needed. Fantasy has been going longer and requires less fixing, but I was happy to buy a new rulebook (especially since I left my old rulebook back in the UK...)
With regard to Fantasy, I like the new rulebook a lot more than the last and while the changes aren't sweeping, there are quite a few details that I'm very happy to have had cleared up. Units charged in the flank can turn around if they win the combat. Great weapons aren't a no-brainer over lances. Regenerate is nice and simple. Magic has had the largest change, what with each wizard only getting his own power dice and the lores have been tidied up. There's some stuff I don't like - lapping round has gone, which is downright odd - and there are things I still think need fixing. But overall it is an improvement.
And what's the issue with Wood Elves? Your army book is just as valid now as it was before. Indeed, I would assume that they had the new edition well in mind when it was written. And you can snipe characters outside of units. What's the problem?
I for one like new editions, they keep the game fresh. Yeah, it is also a way GW gets money out of me, but I'm usually pretty excited about a new rulebook, codex or army book for my armies. And since both Vampire Counts and Codex: Chaos are starting to appear on the horizon, that's going to keep me happy...

They had the new rules in mind when they wrote the most recent Dwarf Army book. The thing is that it would be nice if they would let there be a year or two between finishing Army Books & Codices for the current edition before making the next one.

It's always good when GW release the Wood Elves.....you know its' time for a new Edition to come out. This is pretty much a standing joke these days. Haven't touched the silly stuff since 2nd edition myself.

It's not just the Dwarfs that were made with this edition in mind. the Wood Elves were also designed for the new edition, they were really the first army that were.
And Orangesm, There is no real finishing army books for last edition and making ones for new edition any more. The 7th edition is really a fix for the 6th one, to address balance issues & clarify rules. They haven't done a hard restart like they did with last time, all the army books are valid, so now they are just re releasing them in the order of books that need the most work. The old Orks and Goblins and Empire were designed with a completely different ethos than the rest of them so really did need altering, 2 heroes for a Black ork boss? They were worse than most other armies heroes ffs.

I don?t think it?s so bad now that the army books overlap editions. The fact they attempt to charge ?30 for the rules is outrageous but I got the Skull Pass rulebook of eBay for ?12 or something like that (why do only US sellers sell them though?).

I bought the skull pass box set and sold all the guff except the rulebook so it cost me not much at all. Army books overlap editions as has been mentioned, so all in all it's not too bad, and I prefer the rules being corrected and improved. Damn shame they don't sell those little rule books by themselves though...

See, what gets my goat about the whole constant rereleasing of WFB rulebooks is that in order to keep playing the game with the majority you have to buy the newest edition of the book. Its not just wood elves thats the problem, they were just a case in point. I like to buy a new book for a game when I DECIDE TO, not when GW decides. Plus, if they'd just get the problems fixed properly the first time round we wouldnt need all these extra editions. What am I supposed to do with all my previous rulebooks/ army books? Recycle them? Hah!

There's nothing wrong with playing Rogue Trader or 1st ed Fantasy should you want to.
But they're supposed to ring you up and ask if it's okay if they can release a new edition? And I've never seen a game that couldn't be improved upon.

There has and never will be such a thing as the perfect Wargame. It is impossible to make something that has no bugs without playing mirror games. Yes if everyone had the exact same army it would be entirely fair. But if you want an interesting varied game, you have to live with new editions.
BTW am I the only one here that thinks paying ?30 for a large colour A4 Hardback is perfectly reasonable. Have any of you ever had to buy University text books, or even read books?

The cost of textbooks these days is outrageous. I'm glad I'm not in college any more. Actually, I think the cost of hardcover books is pretty high in general. That's why I buy paperback or, even better, hit used books stores, when I can.

I must be getting old. While I dont enjoy paying high prices for books, I do prefere to get quality, hard back books rather than smaller, softback ones.
Besides, yes, I do get a load of academic text books... although through teaching and writing in them, I try not to actually pay for them!
