It's been quiet here but not out there. I have been cleaning falcons, wraithlords and vypers. These still need to be based and basecoated white before painting can continue. In addition to cleaning eldar I have been testing casting walls(similar to PipBoy's) and luring my brother back into game.

Casting hasnt been that successful, thou it will get better all the time. Then luring my brother back has been a blast. We played few training missions from rulebook and one larger game. He fell on SM and has allready cleaned and prepared company of marines. More is on its way.

I just got a couple of those Space Marine era Aspect Warriors.  I thought the level of detail on the plastic Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons was awesome.  I like them better than the current metal ones.

Your painting definitely brought that detail out too.  Did you mainly dry brush on the highlights or were they painted individually?

On a side note, looking at the Swordwind rules does an Aspect Warrior Warhost have to consist of 8 of one kind of Aspect Warrior or can you mix them in the same formation?

I like those plastic Aspect Warriors too. I cant say anything about metal ones as I havent had any of those ever :)

I am glad people like my eldars.

Answer to painting style is neither. None of those figs has been touched with dry brushing nor real highlighting. I may have fixed some places with new layer of paint but no highlighting. The secret is white basecoat and diluted base color with small hint of black or other suitable darker color in it. I use gw paints. I tried same with vallejo, but vallejo black turns colours gray, not just darker as with GW chaos black. It's like washing white base with wanted colour, highlights come automatically. Painting 8 bases with that detail in a evening is easy.

You can mix them anyway you want. I built and paint them in whole squads of 8. I will do 4-8 more of each(with exception of banshees, run out of figs) when I get more bases from chaosorc.

It sounds a lot like the Grasaille technique that was described here:

Nice to see how it turned out.

That Grasaille technique has same ideas as mine do. I have tried it with 2D, thou I never knew its name.

My washing has some difference as I mix both colours(darker for shade and wanted colour) and use the surface features of a 3D model to let diluted paint flow into and to create shadows and highlights at the same time. Paint must be diluted so that the initial wash leaves some pigment to the highest areas and drying shades deeper ones. That is the reason for adding darker colour. If compared to Grasaille I could paint shadows first(black wash) and then add colour wash later, but it would be slower. Later wash might even ruin effect because of 3D model.

My mixing rates are like 1/10-1/5 black and 9/10-4/5 main colour, then add water till paint turns almost transparent. Then just wash wanted areas.

Some base colour mixes I used with eldars.
For R/G/B, blood red, dark angels green or regal blue plus chaos black.
For yellow, golden yellow plus some snakebite leather.
For ruins, chaos black plus small amount of regal blue, then hl with ghostly gray and final hl with skull white.

This technique leaves so thin layers of paint that varnish is needed or the white basecoat will come out in no time. I have had occasions (with 28mm) where paint had worn off from the highest parts of model before the whole model had been finished.

Hey, you did drive another person to play in that tournament :). At least someone was ...

But good looking Eldar. Will these be seen in the Ropecon (if I won't have another tournament before it)?

I came alone to see if there were odd number of players and I could fit in with my SM. Even numbers was good for me too because I could just sit and watch games. (Santtu and Atte lured me to get there.)

My plan is to get these eldars ready well before Ropecon. Got allready almost 2k pts worth of aspects painted. 15 rangers, 30 vypers, 24 falcons and some guardians and weapon platforms are waiting for painting.

Urgh. What a week. Almost constant headache for a 2 days and milder for a few days more. Then this week was finished with our dog being cut up and stiched back together. Vet removed tumor from it's belly and now she has ugly wound starting from ribcage to .... :(

I relax by painting miniatures and it sure helps. Here are some. Sorry for crappy pictures.

Swooping hawk exarchs
Rangers
Rangers another pic
Wraithguards

I was unsure how old plastic falcons would come out. If I could pick right details, pick right colours and such. I aimed for a Biel Tan one and after all I am quite satisfied.

See, better picture! :)
