Well, to commemerate the release of the Chaos Army Lists we decided to have a Cultist vs Traitor game, which may be one of the rarest match-ups in our local group!

Not sure if I'll get it all up tonight, but I'll get started!

Battlefield:

4x6
Black Legion chose corner deployment.

Deployment:

The Devastation Cruiser was declared for Turn 1, carrying both formations of Chosen and the Retinue within.

Black Legion had no garrisons.

Cultists garrisoned Covens 3 and 4, along with the Defilers, in cover, with Coven 3 and the Defilers one overwatch.

Remaining deployment as shown below:

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Black Legion - Black Legion adds one useless Lesser Daemon to their Daemon Pool? while the Cultist lose *three* from theirs!

The mighty Chaos Cruiser darkens the sky. ?A pin-point attack lances down towards Coven 1's Chaos Altar hiding in the rocks? and misses. ?Then the orbital bombardment and three clusters of Dreadclaws hammer down in tight groupings into the long "arm" of the Cultist's deployment zone? and also miss hitting anything, though they are nice and close to the Traitor Armour Company.

(My opponent chose "corners", mainly because he was doing a partial drop army and that makes for smaller deployment. ?Additionally, in my, and his, experience, most people are inexperienced with corner deployment and tend to deploy their formations in the longer "arm", which feels similar to a "normal" deployment, with few formations in shorter "arm"? of course, I did the exact opposite. *laugh* ?Against almost any other opponent, I think the Chaos Marine drop would've been devastating.)

Feeling a bit pissed off and thirsting for blood, Chosen 2 engages the Traitor Tank Company with the support of the Retinue and Chosen 1. ?The scab-covered tanks are torn apart like used tissues, with no loses for the Chaos Terminators. (*OUCH!*)

The Defilers belch up some indirect fire, targeting Chosen 1 and also catching the Retinue in the blasts. ?Two Chosen and 1 Chaos Marine are taken out.

Nestled in protective ruins, the Plague Tower can make out some tempting targets. ?Sustaining fire in rains 4BPs of filth down on distant Chosen 1 and the Retinue as well. ?This time 2 Chaos Marines and 1 Chosen succumb to the attack? but both Traitor Marine formations are broken by the relentless pestilence. (WOOT!)

The Ravager advances on Coven 3 and shreds 3 Mutants.

Coven 2 gets ready to double after the broken Marines and fails? the Arch-Heretic attempts to inspire them to action, but his foul breath just doesn't cut it so Coven 2 just sits still and regroups.

The Chaos Armoured Company doubles on Coven 4? and annihilates their Hydra!

Coven 4 for doubles on Chosen 2 and takes out one more Chosen.

The Swiftdeaths dive down to ground attack Coven 4, killing 4 Cultists? and leaving the formation with seven Blast markers? and eight units!

Coven 1 tries to double into action, but the Arch-Heretic is still having halitosis problems and they regroup.
The Raptors double forward, arcing around Coven 3, hunkering down out of line of sight from overwatch fire.

Coven 3 summons up 4 Plaguebearers and gets ready to engage the Raptors? but the recently summoned daemons are telling fart jokes to the Mutants and then just wind up regrouping instead. ?(That's a lot of failed activations!)

The Bike Company revs forward, doubling into a good position for an impending attack?

End of Turn:

All formations rally!

Strategy Roll: Black Legion

The Ravager doubles up close to Coven 3? but fires on the Defilers instead, placing a single Blast Marker.

With close support from the Ravager and the Bike Company, the Raptors move to engage Coven 3 in a firefight? and suffer the most humiliating loss in the history of the Traitor Legions since the Battle for the Emperor's Palace! ?The Traitor Marines and friends take out 1 Plague Bearer and 1 Mutant? and the flies and chunks of lead from the Cultist spare only a single Raptor which rapidly wings away for cover! PUS FOR THE PUS GOD! ?(Having so much 3+ armour made a mockery of the Chaos Marines' weapons!)

Inspired, Coven 3 summons 4 more Plaguebearers and engages the intermingled Bike Company and Ravager! ?

The Daemon Prince scores a single Titan-killer hit on the Ravager? but it's a critical!, while the rest of his forces manage to take out 4 Bikes. ?The Chaos Marines take out 3 Plaguebearers and 2 Big Mutants, but it's not enough. ?The bikers are wiped out and the Ravager falls back to near the surviving Raptor, hiding, yes hiding!, behind a building. ?The successful cultists mill about cheering phlegmatically.

The Plague Tower again stays in the ruins, sustaining fire with 5BPs and is able to catch both Chosen formations and the Retinue in its gooey blast? and only manages to place a Blast marker on each of them!

Angered by all this dirty fighting, the Warlord takes his Retinue out to engage Coven 4, with the support of both Chosen formations.

The Coven is wiped out for the cost of a single Chaos Marine? but the Warlord is still angry.

The Defilers try is again? but fail to sustain fire. ?They regroup? and remove one of their two Blast markers. ?*SIGH*

The Swiftdeaths take a break and don't show up.

Coven 1 doubles to take a shot at Chosen 1 and breaks them despite doing no damage.

The Armoured Company advances on Coven 3? and the fury of their fire places a single Blast marker. ?(Man, I love those 3+ saves!)

Coven 2 is ordered to mount up and march towards the Black Legion blitz, but they don't. ?The Arch-Heretic asks, "Why not?" ?They say, "We don't want to." ?The Arch-Heretic has no publishable response, but the Cultists take the Blast marker and actually get into their Chimeras and make a single move, staying within their encrusted APCs. (I *never* leave units inside of transports! ?After failing so many activation in a row, I actually said to the formation, "I'm punishing you." and put them into their Chimeras and moved them forward. ?*LAUGH*)

Chosen 2 doubles towards Coven 1 and manages to reap a Big Mutant?

End of Turn:

There is a burst of static and then a pulse of cleansing blue fire as the Ravager goes up in a roiling mushroom cloud, taking the last Raptor with it!

Other than that debacle, all formations rally.

Strategy Roll: Black Legion

Chosen 1 advance to fire on Coven 1, killing a Cultist out in the open.

Chosen 2 then requires the harsh words of the Warlord to engage Coven 1 in a firefight.

The buildings almost completely shield the Cultists from enemy attack and the toughness of the Big Mutants do the rest and the followers of Nurgle suffer no casualties? the followers of Khorne can't say the same as four Chosen are scythed down in the end? the survivors falling back to safety.

Inspired, but still wary, Coven 1 calls upon their dark master? and is rewarded by the arrival of the Great Unclean One! ?It still takes the urgings of the Arch-Heretic to get them advancing down the road, the Great Unclean One taking the point to belch forth upon the Chaos Retinue and placing 2 Blast markers, as they also secure Cultist Objective 2.

(Note that, as a 4DC war engine, the GUO is still in coherency despite being so far from the bulk of its parent Coven)

The Defilers sustain fire on the Armoured Company, but do no damage, but they do hold Cultist Objective 1... and are 1mm from holding Legion Objective 1!

It's enough to slow the Chaos Armour down as they fail to sustain fire and snap off some shots at Coven 3, discorporating 1 Plaguebearer.

Once again the Plague Tower sustains fire, just able to see one Traitor Marine and 5BP of filth splash down on Chosen 1 and the Retinue. ?The Retinue loses a Chaos Marine and breaks, but the Chosen suffer no damage, but are awfully close to packing it in.

The Swiftdeaths dive down and strafe Coven 3, but do no damage.

Coven 2 finally gets into the fray and doubles towards the Cultist Blitz, breaking Chosen 1 and securing the Cultists' rear area. (HEY NOW!)

Coven 3 leaves their troubles behind and marches onto the Black Legion Blitz, taunting the nearby Armoured Company with off-colour jokes?

End of Turn:

Chosen 1 manages to rally? and finds itself the only Black Legion formation in the Cult controlled area?

Black Legion 0 (none) vs Chaos Cultists 3 (Blitz, BTS, DTF)

Well, now the pics are up, not sure what went wrong with Photobucket.

Yeah, my opponent saturated the "long arm" with his drop attack... and I only had one formation in there, and the building shielded it from any Deathwind attacks! ?*laugh*
