The Vindictive class can use assault boats can be used at a cost of +5 points.

The Baku can use the Dreadclaw assault boat for free. Assault boats move at 30 cm.

When used in the Planetary Assault scenario, the Vindictives gain 2 Assault Points for every turn it spends landing troops on the planet. During the turn it is landing troops on the planet, a Vindictive cannot launch any fighters or bombers or assault boats (if it has them). The launch bays are all focused in disembarking all the troops and equipment that it is carrying onto the planet. Vindictives are the equivalent of two transports.

History

The rare Vindictive class was an offshoot of the Vengeance class of grand cruisers. Their main role in their heyday was to provide heavy fighter and bomber support as well as transporting the Space Marine Legions from one campaign to another and providing limited bombardment support through their lances. ?With their prow sensors, the Vindictives were ideal flagships for the Emperor's best. The early Founding Chapter always render a salute during the extremely rare moments that a Vindictive ?is in their presence.

Only four ships of the Vindictive class remain in the Imperial Navys roster, most having been destroyed in action before and after the Horus Heresy. Some turned traitor during the Horus Heresy and all but one traitor, the Baku operating with the Thousand Sons, have been accounted for.

Following the Horus Heresy, all the Vindictives were absorbed by the Imperial Navy. However, the ?gunship school of admirals disdained the ordnance laden class and they were relegated to transport duties. The remaining Vindictives in the Imperial Navy roster are on loan to the Imperial Guard under the Eridani Warhorse Transport Division though in times of Black Crusades, even the Navy realises the worth of these ageing warhorses and acquires their services for their battle fleets when faced with the hordes of Abaddon.

Tasked with transporting the vast machinery of the Imperial Guard, they are almost all but forgotten by the Imperial Navy. The Imperial Guard High Command had asked if the Imperial Navy could spare some of its non-essential ships to serve as command vessels coordinating all the Guard units when invading a planet. They were only expecting a light cruiser at best. Imagine the surprise of the Guard High Command when the Imperial Navy offered the Vindictives.

The agreement was the Imperial Guard could use them on a long term basis but whenever the need was great, the Imperial Navy would acquire their services anytime. This was fair for the Guardsmen and the deal was struck. The Imperial Guard showed more gratitude as they would ?feel more confident of the outcome of any invasion if one or more of the Vindictives were in the fleet train of the Guards transports.

Adding a Vindictive to existing Fleet Lists

Due to their very few number, Vindictives can only be added to an Imperial Navy fleet list via the following:
- The Reserve Fleet of Segmentum Obscuras
- Reserve Rules and only in games of more than 1,000 points
- As the pursued ship in the Bait scenario.
- In Convoy, Planetary Assault, the Gauntlet or Navigating the Storm scenarios as transport. Vindictive GCs take up the equivalent of four transports and may only take one Vindictive GC in the aforementioned scenarios and is also subject to the following rule modifications:
a. For Convoy, the defender can only take 75 points worth for every two transports if the Vindictive GC is included.
b. For Planetary Assault, it can only be taken for every 1000 points in the assaulting fleet.
c. For the Gauntlet, Ork players can take 200 points worth for every two transports if the Vindictive is included in the IN transports.
d. For Navigating the Storm, if the Vindictive is destroyed, the Imperials automatically lose. On the other hand the Imperials must still move at least 5 regular transports, not including the Vindictive, off the table to win.

In Chaos fleet lists, it can be used in the 13th Black Crusade Fleet List but limited to only one such vessel and it can also be used by the Chaos Space Marines. The Vindictives cannot be used as a Venerable Battle Barge by the Space Marines.

Still basecoated black and hope to paint it over this long Holy Week-end in my part of the world.

hard to see the side lance but they're there and you can see the outline in the second, black and white pic. It's under the bridge wing just to the right of the dorsal lance in front of the bridge.

Tweaked it a bit so that it is only available in games of more than 1,000 points when including it via Reserve Rules. Dauntlesses can make it easy to get in 1k pt games. Also added some more scenarios where it can be included and modified its effects in said scenarios.

I made this so that it's still in line with IN not having easy access to AC.

Nice bit of modelling there, I especially like the grand cruiser prow. You could probably have got away with adding a few more weapons though. With 10 hits, you'll have a few hard points spare so could probably up your LB's to 2 each side, or the lances up to 2 each side. Consequently I reckon its a bit overpriced.
