You know what I love about Germanic languages? That the word for raccoon is usually 'wasbehr', which means 'little washing bear'.

Really? In Finnish Raccoon is "Pesukarhu". Literally "wash bear".  :)

And Warmaster, it's a funny thing that there were supposed to be Zeppelins in 1st edition Epic. They were to be in the never published Codex Titanicus II. Description from 1st edition space Marine rulebook:

Zeppelins are great airships that float above the battlefield, dealing death to anything that dares to approach them.

Furthermore, like Juggernauts they were supposed to be huge war machines that dwarf even the mighty titans.

You haven't been reading 1st edition epic now have you?

What I would give to get my hands on the notes about Codex Titanicus II. The PSI titan was supposed to be there, too . :(

I'm looking forward to that  Why oh why isn't there 40 hours in a day so we have time to do all the projects we want to. At the moment I've been toying with the idea of an Afrika Korps style Blood Axe army for example. I doubt it will ever happen but it could be extremely cool nevertheless.

Same thing in Danish: "Vaskebj?rn". Kindda bizarre really: AFAIk racoons aren't really native to europe are they? Anyway it doesn't make much sense that we would be messing up the names like that... :p

Oh and about the Codex Titanicus II: Well who says I didn't nick the secret blueprint and built my model after that? :D :p
I always assumed that the airships mentioned would be the Squat Overlord or something like that. Wasn't the Imperial Dropship from those days as well? It could sound a bit like they had a huge aerial supplement in their minds at the time.
Regardless I agee: Having a look at their notes and sketches from that time would be awsome!

Hmmm, no word so far in Maltese for raccoon. So I'll make one: a wash-bear would be 'ors hassiel' - not sure if that works. Or else I'd just mangle the original word (it's becoming a trend, and now we have such gems as televixin and kompjuter - work those out  :p). So a raccon would become rakghun - that even practically preserves the pronunciation.  :p

I have heard that explanation too. But Overlord hardly "dwarfs the mighty titans". And neither do Colossus or Cyclops for that matter.

Yep. The never officially published dropship is from that period. The plans must've been pretty well developed as there were models for the dropship and PSI titan already.

Sometimes I think I would go so far as work for GW just to get a look at the old archives.  :blues:
