So, the current Tyranid list is based on the assumption that the Tyranids will have a massive release, including many new models, and the old range fully re-released.

Is this somewhat optimistic? Would it work against the likelyhood of the Tyranids ever getting a release?

Could a decent Tyranid list be made from a somewhat more limited set of releases (More on the order of what Chaos are getting, plus FW releasing their already-sculpted models)?

For example:

From SG:

- Plastic Sprue
- Hive Tyrant
- Zoanthrope
- Biovore
- Carnifex
- Exocrine
- Dominatrix

From FW:
- Scythed Hierodule
- Barbed Hierodule
- Hierophant
- Harridan
- Trygon

From GW:

- Meiotic Spore Mines (40k scale bio-acid spore mines)
- Raveners (40k scale plastic Rippers)

Models I left out:

- Hydraphant (Big multi-part model, unlikely to get it)
- Vituraptor (It doesn't have a model anyway)
- All the multi-part Assault Spawn (A single one-piece assault spawn is easier to justify? You could have a wider variety of 'ammunition' for the Exocrine though, like Biovores in 40k)

Well... too radical? Too biased?

Too pessimistic?

Not pessimistic enough? :D

Not pessimistic enough...

Seriously though: I think the creativity shown by people on this site shows that it isn't a big problem to introduce new units as long as they're relatively easy to construct from the 40k models. If we ever see another Epic release from Fanatic I think it will just be the infantry spure. Getting the smaller metal creatures is a problem but personally I don't mind getting rid of the slug-like bio-tanks. Those are what put me off from collecting Nids in the first place (Dactylis-Yuck!).

I think the list might as well include all the stuff available in 40k regardles on wherter or not it is realistic to get these models. For the larger stuff I'd rather see a guide to building proxies from existing 40k parts as an appendix to the list. I wouldn't mind putting together such a list myself although it'll probably take a bit of researching as my current knowledge of what bitz are available for 40k nids is a bit limited.

I'm kinda hoping that FW would make them for 40k actually as they are tank sized ...

That's unlikely to happen, FW have pretty much finished with their Tyranid releases for the next few years, at least until they release Epic 'nids. :p

DRM's next army looks like - Bugz ! Doug - the DRM Creator, is an Epic fan ... so regardless of what G/W-S/G-F/W-CIA-FBI, etc., etc., do ... we should have more Bugz ... for something ... :alien:

That's exactly what I am thinking.

Yep ... those be them ! ?Good job, Morg ! ?That is my point I repeatedly bring up ... many are awaiting/hoping/praying, etc., etc. for G/W to resurrect Epic like some mythical phoenix ! I'll be surprised if we see anything besides maybe the redone Chaos sprue (?) and F/W Epic scale aircraft for AI ... ?But with both DRM & E/W being the best 6mm Doppelgangers on the planet ... we really don't need G/W's support. ?We do the rules here as it is ... whether Jervis or Andy or Homer (Doh!) approves of them ! ? How many here actually play an "official" game ? Most I'm guessing, play games in their War Rooms with their crew, agree upon  what rules (SM2, NetEpic, E:A, D/S, etc.) that they like. ?And DRM-E/W-GZG-Baccus-SJG, etc. make good models (or will) for all Races and a few G/W ignored; Space Lizzies - DRM, ?Squats - E/W, and more to follow from them. ?GZG makes some great 6mm Bugs (ala SST), plus 6mm (movie) Aliens & Predators and Krav'ak aliens. ?Pendraken makes great 10mm Bugs (ala Aliens) and 10mm Predators ... (I have all of those (save GZG's) and will add them to my SIB 'Nids (since SM2 on) or other armies. I've got 10 'Nid Sprues SIB. :alien: ? ? ? ? So add DRM's upcoming BUgs ... who needs G/W for 'Nids or any other army ??!?!?! ??? ? ? ?:)

If I were starting a Tyranid list from scratch, I?d design the basic list to only include models that have a fair chance of becoming available.

Older models could then work their way into an alternate list.  Epic has this alternate list ethos, so why not make use of it?

That said, I don?t know how hard it would be to rework the list already in existence.

Bombot:

That was the rationale behind my proposed list of models above... instead of three dozen different metal parts being put into production (As is assumed under the current list), I proposed 6 'core' models, each of only one or two pieces (Except the Dominatrix).

Shrug.

Well for starters the shown DRM bug looks like a Keeper of Secrets :D

If you want to scrath build a Nid army like Warmaster Nice you can. If not you can stick with the models already out, or proxy the minis from DRM.
The beauty of the Nids is they can look so different because of differing strains etc etc. You can make them look how ever you like.

Just finalising a list is all I want.

At this stage all we can say for sure about models for the Tyranid list is that 'Meotic Spores' will definitely be available.  :D

Everything else much less certain...  :(

Realistically, I'd say we aren't going to see a single EPIC Tyranid item from GW for the foreseeable future.

That really hurts, as almost all the bigger bugs can be made out of 40k Tyranid parts; it's just the plastic sprue that we need to make it viable.  And if GW doesn't do an EPIC Tyranid release, I seriously doubt FW will release anything at all for them.

Maybe we should work on a "Late Stage IV 'Pre-Consumption' Phase" army list that is *just* the bigger Bugs. ?Hmmm... ? :D

I asked Andy about this a short while ago (about a month ago) and he stated that he still fully intended to get the Tyranid sprues out. Now, this was before Neals post on the state of GW, and I really dont think that we will ever see the metals (my words, not Andys), but I would be surprised if we dont see the rerelease of the infantry plastic sprues.
