I know its a tall order but i wanna create a Battalion ?(or a Brigade) of Guard........ why? i dunno... but there ya go

The size is going to be based of the British army :)

SECTION: Each of about 10 men, commanded by a Corpral

PLATOON: Each about 55 men, commanded by a Second Lieutenant or a Lieutenant

COMPANY: Each of about 275 men, commanded by a Major

BATTALION: Each of about 1375 men, commanded by a Lieutenant-Colonel

(BRIGADE: Each made up of 3 Battalions and support troops, commanded by a Brigadier) - Dunno yet

COLOUR: The coulor Im gonna use is Dark Green and a Dark Brown

K cause people arn't postin it seams i need to explane my self more...

I feel the need to say im not going to use the whole regiment history its gonna be a backbone to the fluff of the army though.

And looking at the army size i also feel the need to increse it in size.

now can someone plase post......

I'd be tempted to do a Real Life Company-sized force, with all supporting elements, rather than an infantry-only Brigade! :D

Sounds like a worthy project ! And I'm all for Tactical/Camo colors ! (I commanded a Mech Co. in the US  Army, 112 troops. Commanded by a CPT, [me in this case !] US Co. is smaller than UK ...).

It is a worthy project.

Something to note is that a Brigade and a Regiment are roughly equivelant both consisting of Battalions.  A Brigade may not have all the various supporting units that a regiment has though.  Administration for a Brigade may be outside the Brigade while a Regiment should have all of its own Support. (I think)

My Guard Army is being built up as a Regiment with 5 Battalions ~4 Companies each (companies being the company in the army list).

Again a worthy project, selecting the right type of unit may be the trick like L4 says.  And he will know quiet a bit more about unit organization than I will.

Not all th Tank Battalion is going to be tankers, some of the unit will be maintenance troops, I think.

Yes, Rgts & Bdes are roughly the same level of organization. Based on the country, era, etc., 3 Rgts/Bdes make a Division.  And both can be separate units with either organic or attached support.    So just for the exercise - 3-4 plts = a Company, 3-6 Cos.= a Bn, 3-4+ Bns = Rgt or Bde.   So if you are going to do an Inf Bde, I'll give you the TO&E of the last unit I served with ('86-'90) - The 197th INF (Mech)     (Sep) :  2 Mech Inf Bns, 1 Armor Bn, 1 FA (Field Arty) Bn, 1 Cbt Eng Co., 1 Armored Cav Troop (= Co.) 1 Cbt Spt Bn (Maint. Transport Medical etc. Cos),   1 MP Plt., Bde HQ.   And a Bn is usually 600-1000 men, Rgt = 1100-3200, Bde = 2000-4000, generally based on country, era, etc. ... So     a Tank Bn usually has around 30-50 (USSR vs. US) MBTs. So "Orange" is correct, all troops in the Bn are not manning MBTs/tanks. The last Armor Bn I was attached to,  2nd/69th had 4 Tanks Cos. - 14 MBTs each (4 per plt + 2 Plt HQ Tanks). And HQ & HQ Co. This had the support organic to the Bn. The Bn HQ and staff and HQ Co., a Scout Plt (6 APCs/ITVs or IFVs), Mortar Plt. (6 SP Hvy Mortars), Maint. Plt (8 Armor Rec Vehs, Maint. APCs, Trucks etc.), Admin Plt (pay, awards, etc.) Medical Plt., Logistic Sec. (Cooks, Trans Plt, Refueling Trucks).   So No, 250 Tanks is closer to a Division.  The last INF Bn, I was assigned to, 1st/58th Mech, had a HQ & HQ Co. (similar to the AR Bn- Scouts, Mortars, etc.), 4 Mech Cos. (12 APCs + 2 HQ APCs), and an Anti-Armor Co. (4 AT APCs Plts + 4 AT Secs -usually re- attached back to the INF Cos.).           I hope that helps, but look at the Army lists of the particular version of Epic you want to play.  The list tells you how they want you to do it ... :D

Capt Dave - L4 is the TO&E guru around here and has more grunt time than anyone else!

Your figures arent right if you are talking front line combat troops on the table.  Cut out the cooks, bottle washers, techs, clerks etc and there are far less.

Section - 9 men
Plt - 30 (3 sections + HQ)
Coy - 140 (3 Plts + HQ)
Bn = 4 Rifle Coys + "Support" Company (a platoon each of mortars, MGs and Sappers) + BHQ = approx 600 rifles.

These days its the battlalion that is the key unit, with supporting arms.

A "Battalion Group" is thus a Rifle Battlaion, plus some APCs (chimeras), usually a Battery of field guns (Basilisks) then whatever the mission requires - a troop of armour (L.Russ), maybe some helos (vultures) in support etc.

Good Luck!

Tas is correct !  He was the FA before he was a sailor !  His Battle Group or Task Force is the way to go for Epic, based on the current system ... Plus it would be an effective combined arms force. In the game or real world ...  Which is the way to do it ...

I am fairly ignorant about all of this, but this seems off to me.

Does this mean that a Company is three Platoons of 30 men, and an HQ unit of 50?

HQ units often have additional personnel attached that aren't involved with command and control, like heavy weapons platoons, mortar platoons, etc. These are then doled out to rifle platoons that need additional fire support.

Generally a Plt, is around 40 men ... And Tas and D/S are correct. ?An Infantry Plt. is 3-4 Squads or Sections, based on the country. US likes Squads, where the UK and her affiliates like Sections ... its basically the same thing. A US Army Squad is 11, where a USMC is 13 ... ?an Army Squad is 2 Fire Teams of 5 men each + a Squad Ldr ... A USMC Squad is 3 Fire teams of 4 + 1 Squad Ldr ... for example. So in Epic a 5 man stand is actually a Fire Tm. An Inf Co. as Tas & D/S said. is 3 Plts (so 30-40 is a good number). ?And the Plt HQ is only 4-5 men (Plt Ldr, Plt SGT, Radioman [RTO], etc.) and may be some MG or Mortars ... ?An Inf Co. along with the 3 Rifle Plts, may have a Weapons Plt with MG, Mortars etc. + the Co. HQ of 6-8( incl. Co. Cdr, 1st SGT, RTOs, etc.). ? ?So as I said my Mech Co. had 112 Authorized, ?3 Plts and a Co. HQ. ?In the 101 my Inf Co. had 3 Rifle Plts, a Mortar Plt and a Co HQ. ?So again, an Inf Co is around 100-150 ?based on country, era, etc. ... Many modern Inf Plts have the MGs as part of (organic to) the Squads. ?For Example: One of my Mech Inf Squads had two 5 man Fire Tms. Alpha Tm = 1-M60 MG, 1-M249 Squad Automatic Weapon/LMG, 1-M203 Grenade Lncher, 2 M-16 Asslt Rifles (these troops carrying M-16s also had M18 Claymore Mines and M-72 LAWs). Plus Hand Grenades passed out like candy ! And C-4 as needed ... ? ? ? ?And Bravo Tm was the same, but instead of an M-60 MG it had an M-47 Med. Anti-Armor Weapon. ?Plus the M-2 .50 Cal HMGs on our M113 APCs ... So if you do the math, that's a tremendous amount of Firepower ! ?And to that the units attached to the Co.; Medics, Maint. Tm, FA Fire Support Tms [FOs], maybe an ADA/AAA Tm (Redeye then Stinger), a Combat Engineer Squad, etc. ... ? So as you can see the bare numbers, may be deceiving, to the civilian ...  And I hope I didn't confuse any one, but remember that when you call us dumb Grunts !  LOL !! :D
