I decided to take a look at my resolutions for this year and see how close I came.

My resolutions for '06 were:

Gaming:
1) Complete painting all Epic minis I've started, which are:
  - finishing touches on a CI
  - 6 bombards
  - A company each of storm hammers and baneblades
  - Ultramarines: 5 landspeeders, 3 razorbacks and a ton of infantry
2) Start and finish painting all of my gargants, 8 all together
3) Start painting an army, yet to be determined
4) Finish buying everything on my Epic wish list, except titan bits
5) Work on some terrain
6) Rejoin my D&D group
7) Post pics of minis

Nongaming:
1) Paint two sides of my house and all 12 shutters
2) Reseed parts of my lawn
3) Buy about 6 yards of crushed stone for my driveway and spread it
4) Lose weight
5) Be a better husband and stepfather

Here's how I did:

Gaming:
1. Done!
2. Didn't touch any of them.
3. Done, started Squats.
4. Almost. I'm 2 Eldar knights short, and a handful of Imperial Titans.
5. Yup, not as much as I had hoped, but worked on some.
6. Yup!
7. Nope. intermittent PC problems hasn't helped.

Nongaming:
1. Nope. The weather didn't cooperate. It was either too rainy or too hot for outdoor painting.
2. A little bit, but not nearly as much as I had hoped.
3. Nope. Unfortunately, I had to have a drain pipe replaced under my driveway. So, part of it had to be torn up.
4. Sadly, no. As matter of fact I put on about 5 more pounds.
5. Failed miserably.  :(

So, overall I did well in meeting my gaming resolutions, but not my nongaming ones.

For those who need reminding...

2006 Resolutions

Mine were...

Wargame related...

1. Get the EA Tau list to an accepted and professional level, making it fun and interesting to play. Also, widen the appeal of the Tau, to get more people interest in the force in EA.

2. Finish my Epic Crucible of Champions lists and rules.

3. Get the latest draft of my Genestealer Cult army finished.

4. Focus my painting (not necessarily buying!) so that I have actual forces to play games with. These should be EA Tau, a small force of Eldar and the beginning of a Genestealer Cult, as well as many more BFG Chaos vessels painted and ready to go. Also, make a serious start on my 15mm Dacians!

5. Get much more work done on my two home-grown wargame rules projects.

6. Redesign and move this site and these boards.

Other stuff...

A. Learn a language.

B. Organise my time so that I have time to get more done.

C. Get fitter, eat healthier.

D. Move and stop renting.

E. Work smarter in my job, and spend more time doing stuff for my career and less time doing the irritating little jobs that other people try to get me to do.

F. Stop coming up with wholely unrealistic lists of things to achieve! (It seems that I have a head start on breaking that one!)

1 - This didnt go as far as I wanted, but at least progressed.

2 - Umm... moving on... (that is a 'no')

3 - *sigh* no. List is progressing, but hasnt got much further... although I am actually building for it now... very slowly!

4 - Kind of achieved. I have focussed my painting (although I had forgotten this resolution when I decided to d0 so), although not in the areas mentioned... and the poor Dacians are still on shore leave in the bag!

5 - I cant even remember what these are!

6 - Well, the boards moved... of course, I was forced into this.  :D

A - Nope.

B - I am now better at the whole time management thing, but I need to keep working on my prioritising.

C - A little better, but Christmas has undone most of the effort!

D - Yes! Got one ticked!

E - Yes, I am better a this.

F - Nope!

So, a pretty dismal tally of results there. I think that this year I wont be making any resolutions. I want to have more fun and work smarter and be more focussed.

Mine were:
Gaming:
Expand my FoW Soviets to 5000points.
Jump on board the next ToEG, Return to the Desert Ferrin & Expand them by 5000points.
Game epic more with the above!
Paint copius amounts of Dark Realm stuff, especially buggies....

Done!
Failed, but the next 5K isnow planned & on a project board.. there is hope!
Done! I've played about 6 times this year - wow!
Ummm Copious amounts... well maybe not, but they've kept me busy so I'll claim sucess on the DRM one too!

Personal / non-hobby:
Return to a more regimented working life & try to keep my head above the financial water for once!
Start my SPLA climbing qualification or similar.
Continue the charity work I've started this year for Cancer Research (Sponsored climb on 28th Dec if anyone's got a spare few cents  )

Kinda done. With the Exception of the 3 / 4 month fiasco of moving home, the year was good, so two thirds completed there!

I didn't do my SPLA or similar, as I couldn't afford it, but I have been awarded the Queen's scout award (even if rather late!)... Does that count???

I raised almost ?1000 in the end doing the sponsored climb last year & almost killed myself inthe process. I'venot done anything else myself this year, but I have helped 3 others organise events which have bought in a further ?1200 or thereabouts. Mission accomplished!

And the ones I make every year:

Have fun, Stay Healthy & live to see 2007

Check, check, and fingers crossed ;)

Crikey! After the last few months of hell, I hadn't realised I've actually been quite sucessful this year. Thanks for making me realise that lads! :D

1. finish uni with a good mark. ?That'll involve doing well on my dissertation (it's already too long! ?)
2. get a job with a charity when I graduate as a campaigner. ?Failing that, any job that'll pay enough to support my miniature buying habit ?
3. Continue and complete my Big Paint: 1,500 point of Fire Storm Marines and 3,000 points of Epic Guard
4. ...and then decide which armies will constitute my next Big Paint, ha!!! ?It'll either be Orks or Iron Warriors in Epic, and I'm feeling very very drawn to doing a 40k LotD army... ?
5. Take my newly painted armies to the Specialist Games Tournament & 40k Grand Tournament respectively!
6. Save some money for an engagement ring for my Girlfriend, by controlling my miniature habit ?
7. Finish my short story for the next Black Library Short Story competition... and if they don't run it in 2006, finish it and send it to them anyway!

1. Somehow I managed to get a First, inspite of having to completely re-write my dissertation from scratch 6 weeks before it was due in. ?So that's a pass! :D
2. *sigh* Charity Jobs were not forthcoming; who'd have thought that to work in International Development having a degree in International Development Studies and relevant work experience is second to qualifications & experience in Marketing & Finance? ??? ? I certainly didn't, and I would have chosen a different course at Uni... ?Any-hoo, as it stands I was able to find somekind of work (of the temping variety), which did feed my miniature buying habit. ? Though I'm not sure that was neccessarily a good thing... ?:;):
3. Well, I did the Epic Guard, but not the 40k Marines... they're now in storage, I need to re-jig them before I finish them; I think the release of the rumoured Drop Pods will give me inspiration to finish them!
4. Well, I've now started my Epic Iron Warriors, inspite telling myself it was going to be Orks, ha! ?As for 40k, I've tinkered with Inquisition stuff (some of which still needs to be painted), started a Guard Army (I WILL do this after my UW Syntha, but - huzzah - I did manage to finish a 40k army, the first time I have acheived this in almost 5 years: Tyranids.
5. Yes to the SG, nope to the 40k one, unsurprisingly! ?Had there not been delays/confusion over our planned moved to France, I would have gone to the 1st Co. Vets event in October...
6. Well, my student loan paid for that, ha! ?Our planned wedding has now been delayed for at least a few months due to the fact we're having a baby which is due the same time we were planning the wedding for. ?Gives me time to save for the wedding ring... :D
7. Entered 2 short story competitions, didn't get anywhere with either... still, I've got other ideas so I'm not done for yet!

In all, I think I managed everything I hoped to - apart from a couple of things, mostly it's been affected by things out of my control.  Such is life!

Oh well done, CS, I was hoping no-one would provide the link..    :p

Ah well...

1 - get the PhD ready by 2007 (I know it's 2006 coming up next, but that means lots of work next year!)
2 - complete a Dark Eldar army.
3 - complete an Aeronef fleet.
4 - complete all my Ironstars models (around 10!)
5 - Try to paint any Dark Realm minis I get as soon as they get here
6 - complete the CI
7 - work on a clear-what's-on-the-workbench policy

1 - well, it's on line for 2007, as planned, so thatis, at least, one that went well.
2 - nope.
3 - transferred to tale of tactical wargamers!
4 - no
5 - well, at least I managed a few, and I'm still working on it, so partial success here.
6 - no.
7 - ha, funny.....  :p

Groan!

It just occurred to me that I reached a goal that I had sent for myself in '06. I wanted to play two games of Epic. I did indeed play two games (it might have been three, now that I think about it) with my nephew and as a bonus I managed to attend two tourneys, which included the massive three-way game in October. Overall, I must say that gaming-wise I had a good year, especially if you include all the games of Talisman and Dungeonquest I played.  :)

Hi Guys,

Here are my 2006 resolutions:

Hi Guys,
I'm still thinking about the New Years resolutions I want to make for 2006, but here are the preliminary ones:
1. PROFESSIONAL:
- Get the new job I've been wanting and move on from the bad experience I had with school administrations in 2004-2005.

ACCOMPLISHED.
I got this one hands down, new job, a raise and security again. It took alot of tries too... anyone who read my blog last year can tastify to THAT!

2. PERSONAL:
- Finish developing "Planetfall," my sci-fi rule set, and publish the game in 2006.

ACCOMPLISHED, with reservations.
I ended up joining the Baccus team and most of my "Planetfall" energy went into "Command Horizon." So, while I didn't make "Planetfall" yet, I did get a ruleset accomplished. I also worked on at least six other rulesets over the year and should have my name in the contributors' section of most of those. Among those, I got a chance to work with Mongoose, Baccus and Wessex. I also made a number of contacts including with Brigade, Firefly Games and ConQuest Games.

I also made it the gym, did my laundry regularly (Yes, I made a resolution to do laundry!) and found a new love interest (the actual resolution was to go on at least four dates, which I handily made).

3. HOBBY:
- Paint lots of minis and work on gaming terrain. I really want to get my 6mm city metropolis board done.

I take my New Years resolutions seriously and I met almost everyone of the resolutions I made last year.

NOT ACCOMPLISHED.
I didn't make my main goal of getting enough 6mm urban terrain to do a "Godzilla game."

I did paint a lot of miniatures though, not bad, but I didn't make my goal.

I did however also re-organize my miniatures, move, get a new hobby area set-up and otherwise get a lot of hobby-related stuff done. I also worked two gaming conventions and maintained not only my own hobby blog, but helped out with my friend, Tas'es hobby blog while he was at sea with the Ozzie navy. I also set up a number of Yahoo E-groups for hobby-ists and was even voted a notable TMP / Hobby contributor. I received a free TMP membership for my contributions. It was my second or third free membership. An anonymous donor gave me one before.

------------------------

All in all, it was a good year. I got alot done.

My best accomplishments were:
- Getting a new GOOD job, new GREAT paycheck and LONG-NEEDED stability again.
- Dealing with the loss of one girlfriend to multiple problems (surgery, PhD stress and mental problems) and finding a new, more healthy love interest.
- Moving to a new area and a new apartment.
- Setting up a huge new spacious DEDICATED hobby table.
- Dealing with the loss of an old friend who has some severe personal challenges. I can only hope that he's doing well.
- Working two gaming conventions and receiving kudos for my work.
- Staying positive and making the best of things.

And most of all...

- Changing a streak of bad luck into a streak of good luck.

I can only wish such blessing on all of YOU!

May you all receive blessings equal to or better than my own!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I managed to fail all of my resolutions, but in general I think I did well in other aspects.
* I managed a fairly long term relationship before getting bored.
* I started up three companies, all of which are doing well.
* My contracts are getting more lucrative, which rocks.
* I moved from a two bedroom flat, to a three bedroom house.
* I bought a tortoise!

Where I did badly:
* Once again, despite studying I failed to comprehend the meaning of English grammer (my native tongue) so once again resorted to 'Pin the full stop on the sentence'.
* I drank too much this year again, I blame it on the agents!
* I ate too much of the wrong stuff.
* Despite working on it all year, I have failed to come up with a killer script for the comic i'm working on 'The Prodigal Son', it's had numerous title changes, been rewritten from scratch, and the demo panels from it have been redrawn beyond count. Our other comic scripts have been okay, just this one is causing problems, despite being my favourite concept.
* Definately need to keep the house tidier, it closely resembles Alderaan after it's run in with the Death Star laser.
