I've been wanting to expand the "Fantasy to SciFi" aspect of my Epic collection. ?To that end, I spent some time looking at Irregular's fantasy 6mm range and making inquiries in various places. ?I finally decided to order a few pieces just to check them out. ?The order arrived yesterday. Link

I thought I'd share my impressions, just in case it may be of help to someone. ?Could be especially useful to Netepic players. ?

The overall figure quality was good. ?Little to no mold shift, easily as good as the Baccus CH infantry, perhaps a bit better. ?Most infantry was on strips, 5 men to a strip.

Undead: ?Despite the fact that there is a fair amount of detail on these, it's rather hard to tell that they are supposed to be undead. ?Most figs are completely or almost completely covered by cloaks. ?Can't see many skeletal parts.?

My biggest problem with them, and all the samples, was that they are crammed together and are actually connected to each other, making it difficult or impossible to spread them out. ?

Where there are spaces between figs, there is usually alot of flash, but I really don't mind dealing w/ flash if the minis are good.

As a personal beef, the command stands have standard bearers. ?I know this should be expected, but I just ? HATE  banners of all kinds. ?Maybe they can be made into spears or halberds.

Quality is not up to DRM/EW/GW standards but OK.

Not what I'd hoped for, but better than I expected. ?I'll probably use them as they are the only source of 6mm undead I've found.

Mummies: ?Really nice, look like they should, but you only get one guy on a stand. ?Kind of pricey at that rate.

Ratmen: ?Detail on these is even better than on the undead. ?Still not DRM/EW/GW level, but I'm happy. ?You can tell these guys are supposed to be Ratmen (or maybe wolfmen if you want to try something new!).

Also suffer from being bunched up and connected to each other, plus the flashing. ?

The good thing about the Ratmen, and most of the range is that they have handgunners. ?At 6mm, it's hard to tell a fantasy handgun isn't some sort of scifi weapon.

Again, I'll be using them as they are the only source of 6mm Ratmen around.

Goblins: I had high hopes for these as I wanted to use them to suppliment my small supply of Grots. ?I was, sadly, disappointed. ?They were little more than lumps. ?The worst part is, they were NOT connected to one another. ?They could easily have been cut apart and used as I wanted. ?I guess it's time to try Baccus Gobos next.

Orcs: ?Anyone looking to build a Feral Ork army with a more feral feel, give these guys a try! ?They are easily the figs I was most pleased with. ?There will be alot of these guys in my feral Ork army(prob. Snakebites too). ?You can get a nice selection too. ?Handgunners, archers, handweapons, and spears so you can easily create those Feral specialist units. ?Getting really close to DRM/EW/GW quality with these guys.

Finally, I bought 1 stand of Evil Knights, just on the off chance they'd make decent Chaos forces. ?They actually looked nice. ?Of course, they look like Knights or barbarians, but I'm confident I can find a place for them. ?I may just use them as cultist, or as some sort of Chaos warrior/barbarians for a scenerio game. ?I really like them, but I don't think they would make very good CSM.

I didn't try Lizardmen, as DRM already covered this for me. ?I also didn't try any Centaurs or Amazon/Valkyries as they only had archers and spears. ?I may give them a try later, but hope I can fill these roles from CH & EW.

In my next order, I'll most likely try Dark Elves and Dark Dwarves.

I'm posting in the Epic section, as I purchased these for use with Epic and I'd expect most intersted parties on these boards would be using them for some version of Epic. ?

I'm sorry I never share pics in my reviews, but they never turn out clear enough to be of any real use.

If anyone wants to see spacing or size comparisons, I can take a couple pics, just don't expect much detail.

I'm also happy to answer any questions.

Hope someone finds this useful.

I found it useful mate :)  Having tried the Irregular Undead I'm pretty cautious about going again, but it's good to hear some are better stuff.....I would like to give them another go because the price is right.  Look forward to your next review.

Yeah, price is something I should have mentioned.

Standard infantry and command stands are 20p each.  Shipping to the US is 50% of your order total.  So basically, each stand is 30p (about $0.60 USD) after shipping if you live in the US.

I don't know much about the VAT and such, so those in Europe will need to calculate for themselves.

And you can do a comparison shop with Eureka Miniatures in OZ to work out which is cheaper all up :)

I did check prices for Irregular's US distributor.  Price was $0.50 USD per stand, but shipping was a flat $4.50 for orders under $40.00, so unless you are buying more than 45 stands, it's cheaper to get them direct from Irregular.

I bought from Irregular because I'm just sampling now.  If I place a large enough order, I may try Silver Eagle.

After a little more examination, I believe, if you are confident in your surgical skills, you could prob. seperate the infantry.  I might try it, but I'm not very confident in my abilities.

I do need to clarify one point.  In my original post, I refered to the "Goblins" as being little more than lumps.  That is in fact, the "Lesser Goblins", who are about the size of Grots.  The "Goblins" which are not the same, are not the right size for Grots (and really don't look very good either).

I used to buy CCG stuff from Silver Eagle....I'd recommend them pretty highly.
