With the new Eldar Codex out, I was inspired to try my hand at putting together an alternate Craftworld army list.  I like tanks, so Yme-Loc seemed like a good fit.

The initial list write-up can be found here.

Taking a break from fighting Tyranids, I got one of my friends to bring his Marines against the Grav-Tank forces.  He's a big fan of "mud Marines" and brought that style of list.

It was a heckuva fight!

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Space Marines

The Whirlwinds whirl up and sustain fire on the nearby War Walker Troupe, fragging three of the light walkers and sending the remaining three broken and fleeing.

Swords of Vaul 1 advance to pop-up and fire on the Devastators at extreme range, but their overwatch fire takes out a Firestorm so only a single Fire Prism shoots? and misses.

The Assault Marines double to grab Eldar Objective 1 but the Rangers manage to snipe the Chaplain as they land.

The Gate of Vaul opens? and out come the Warp Spiders to engage the Devastators! Mono-filament scours the ruins and, soon, the Devastators are no more.  The Aspect Warriors get into cover.

The Tactical HQ roars down the road on a double and fires sporadically at the Warp Spiders, but score no effective hits.

The Engines of Vaul double forward to fire on the Tactical HQ and 3 Rhinos are turned into wrecks.

The mechanized Terminator Detachment doubles down the road and opens fire on the Engines of Vaul.  The Storm Serpent suffers 2DC and a crit, imploding? and Scorpion 2 suffers 2DC? and a CRIT? imploding.  The remaining Scorpion breaks and hovers away.

Tactical Bravo doubles up as well, blasting at the Warp Spiders? and kills one unit.

The Windriders double to place a Blast marker on the Terminators.

The Scout Detachment mounts up and doubles after the last Engine of Vaul, their attack causing 1DC damage to the broken war engine.

Guarding their Blitz objective, the Guardians go on overwatch?

End of Turn:

The Assault Marines fail to clear any Blast markers and the War Walkers fail to rally.

Turn 2

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Space Marines

Tactical Bravo ignores the Warp Spiders doubling down the road past them to fire on the last battered Scorpion of the Engines of Vaul Warhost, knocking it to the ground in a heap.

The Whirlwinds require confirmation of their orders, but then sustain fire on the Warp Spiders, taking out another unit.

Again the Gate of Vaul opens and Sword of Vaul to advance out of the shimmering portal to catch the Terminators in crossfire, destroying 2 Land Raiders. (No armour penalty, but it did place an extra Blast marker!)

The remaining Warp Spiders engage the Terminators in a firefight, with the support of Sword of Vaul 1 and the Rangers.  Two Warp Spiders are gunned down, but 2 Terminators are taken out and another captured as the Marines are narrowly pushed back down the road.

Swords of Vaul 1 takes off in hot pursuit on a double and eliminates 1 Land Raider and the last Terminator unit.

The Assault Marines jump into the scrub to engage the broken War Walkers, wiping out the spindly Eldar machines, but losing another Assault Marine in the process.

The Windriders double to harass the Whirlwinds, placing a single Blast marker.

The Ranger Troupe goes back onto overwatch.

The Tactical HQ advances to fire on Swords of Vaul 1 and take out 1 Falcon.

The Guardians stay on overwatch.

The Scout Detachment doubles to fire on Sword of Vaul 1, and the Rangers' overwatch fire takes out the Commander and another Scout unit?

End of Turn:

All Marine formations rally, while the Autarch and Warp Spiders fail to clear any Blast markers.

Turn 3

The Farseer of Swords of Vaul 1 summons the Avatar!

Strategy Roll: Space Marines

The Whirlwinds sustain fire, hitting both the Avatar, for 1 DC, and Swords of Vaul 1, eliminating 2 Fire Prisms and breaking the grav-tank formation! ?The Eldar tanks flee to the Marine Blitz.

The surviving Land Raider of the Terminator Detachment marches to the Marine Blitz, but doesn't quite get close enough, despite barrelling through some ruins.

The wounded Avatar bellows a war cry and engages the Marine Scouts, wiping them out, and moving menacingly towards the Tactical HQ.

The Windrider follow up by engaging the Tactical HQ with the support of the Avatar. ?Two Jetbikes and a Vyper are knocked down, but the Eldar win, taking 4 Tactical Marines out of the picture, but they Windriders break from losses.

Swords of Vaul 2 advances on Tactical Bravo and blows away 2 Razorbacks, 1 Vindicator, the Hunter, and a Rhino? but the Marines remain unbroken!

Tactical Bravo, momentarily shaken and now on foot, doubles to place a Blast marker on the Rangers.

The Assault Marines engage the Rangers, with the support of Bravo, and kill two of them, but the Outcasts are made of stern stuff and narrowly hold out, pushing the Assault Marines back.

The Rangers then sustain fire on Tactical Bravo, but do no damage.

And still the Guardians remain on overwatch?

End of Turn:

Again all Marine formations rally, while Sword of Vaul 1 and the Rangers both fail.

Marines 1 (BTS) vs Eldar 0 (none)

Turn 4

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Eldar (on a tie)

Swords of Vaul 2 prepares to finish off the Terminators, but all the carnage has shaken them and even the Autarch can't motivate them, so they fire on Tactical Bravo, taking out a Vindicator, a Rhino, and 1 Tactical Marine unit.

The Whirlwinds again sustain fire, targeting the Windriders, but doing no damage.

Tactical Bravo marches back to secure Marine Objective 1.

The Warp Spiders engage the Assault Marines and the Eldar are quite surprised to find themselves wiped out!

The Rangers advance on the Assault Marines and give them a Blast marker.

The surviving Marine Supreme Commander doubles towards the Gate of Vaul and fires on the nearby Rangers, breaking them.

The worn-out Windriders jet forward to engage the Assault Marines and gun them all down in a hail of razor-sharp disks.

The last Land Raider doubles on the Windriders and blasts away a Vyper, breaking them.

Living up to their name, the Guardians of the Guardian Troupe, keep guarding the Eldar Blitz with overwatch?

End of Turn:

Again all Marine formations rally, while only Sword of Vaul 2 rallies for the Eldar.

Marines 1 (BTS) vs Eldar 0 (none)

Roll-off: Go to Turn 5!

Turn 5

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Marines

The Whirlwinds sustain fire on Swords of Vaul 2, taking out a Falcon and a Firestorm.

The Terminators' tenacious Land Raider advances to fire on Swords of Vaul 2, knocking down a Fire Prism and breaking them.

The Guardians stay on overwatch.

Tactical Bravo marches back to grab the Gate of Vaul.

The sole survivors of Tactical HQ doubles to secure Eldar Objective 1 and causes a panicked Jetbike to crash when they fire on the Windriders?

End of Turn:

Both Swords of Vaul formations rally despite their grievous losses?

Marines 2 (BTS, T-n-H) vs Eldar 0 (none)

I was expecting eldars to win on turn 4. That failed activation for Swords of Vaul 2 must've hurt (as well as losing Warp Spiders on engage).

My failed activations *always* hurt... *laugh*  Yeah, if they would've activated they would've taken the Marine Blitz as well as, hopefully, taken out the Marine BTS... but I didn't have much left to guard my objectives so the Marines still might have tied it up.

It was the Marine saves that did in the poor Warpies... but they did *way* more than their point value in damage.

Any comments on Vindies?

With their improved speed, Vindicators are becoming a more popular choice for the local Marines.  The good to-hit number and the ignore cover are really appreciated.  If they get an extra FF attack, I'm pretty sure they'll be fielded in massive numbers.

Good, very entertaining report! :)

For vindies, Ain't FF3+ a bit too much for a one gun tank? I think speed upg makes enough to take them. It was main issue with them.
Ignore cover is good for vindi in FF.

I like the speed boost to 25cm and giving ignore cover to all Demolisher cannons, similar to the MW effect on Land Speeders.

Just have to write a little special rule for the Baneblade.

Thanks DS, I have a lot of fun playing them and writing them.

Probably won't get anymore done up before the holidays, and I'm going to be out of town at various relatives for most of them, so the next report will most likely be in the New Year!
