I just checked out the first Monthly release of Fanatic online, hmmm, no apreciable difference from the weekly Fanatics, not longer or more articles and no more real content from Andy than you could find in his weekly ramblings, maybe an extra worthless filler paragraph I guess. Overall just the disapointment I had expected with the anouncement, effectively just one quarter the support of the old Fanatic, I guess if content could be compared to calories, this then would be the New Diet Fanatic, fewer articles and lean content for the dieting gamer.

Well Andy's stated up front, 'listen it's just me, less fanatic magazine means more time to work on other SG stuff'. So lets wait and see if that transpires before we pass judgement... after all Feb and Chaos (or not!) is approaching. Many people SG boards agreed that they would prefer this approach, and that losing some FOL was ok - in fact  the idea may originally have been SG board posters rather than Andy's I think.

I think, after the constant letdowns, lack of information and, in some cases, what appear to be downright lies SG has lost the right to expect us to wait and see or to trust in very vague statements without any hard information/dates

SG expects nothing. SG is just Andy  :( . SG players basically requested that Andy spend his time this way (less FOL, more work on actual games).  That is all there is to it. This isn't another cutback in resources, it is just reallocation of what meagre resources there is.
Andy is just trying to do what the players actually want with the small resources he has available.

Well until there is any evidence that Andy is spending more time working on the actual games I'm going to continue to be very sceptical.

Never really read Fanatic Online.  Really, having a weekly mag when you?ve got one person to do it and even the main games only get a monthly mag is a bit daft.  They were right to cut it down.

With you on that one Bombot  :)

Also I think that andy should get our full support, after all it must be a pretty thankless task keeping SG going with little GW support, let alone flak from the community.  Bitching about GW however- thats a different matter  :)

If the Chaos release is just the old infantry sprue, unchanged since its original release and all the other molds are Lost, then what extra work on Andys part will releasing it actually be? I mean yes I want it if they put it out but really theirs really not much involved.
The cut back to monthly for the Fanatic wouldnt be so bad except so far its still a measilly three articles as it was when it was weekly, and all of them are written by fans, when was the last time that SG wrote a new article themselves? Is their really that much involved in taking three already written articles and writing a paragraph or two on friday.

The only downright lies I know of came from Forgeworld.  They lied about pending designs and production schedules when the EA champions tried to coordinate with them.  To a certain extent that is understandable with respect to business confidentiality but it's still annoying.

I have no reason to believe FW lied about anything unless you count missing deadlines.

I too never read Fanatic O/L ... no need. All the real/good intell filters/leaches thru to here.  I don't think they lie, I think they make "lofty" comments sometimes, but when reality sets in ... well then instead of 6mm Chaos ... we get a reissued CSM sprue ... I've said this before, with DRM, E/Wars and even GZG + maybe even Baccus ... Who needs G/W ?!  Along with my large Epic forces (10 + Armies), I plan on buying everything that DRM and E/W makes(and have so far!).  They are perfect Epic "proxies" (IG/Arbites, Necrons, Squats) IMO + new Space Lizzies ... so far ! Plus Much more to come !  Both "Creators" of DRM/E/Wars are Epic fans, so they know what we want/like/need !  And I'm pretty sure, that there will be "proxies" for Eldar, Chaos, 'Nids, etc.  + new alien races !!  So again; who needs G/W ?!  We're even writing the rules !  :D

re lies

how about -
To me from both AH and JJ at UK Gamesday 2005 Chaos is 100% out in Summer 2006 and will be old sprues, unreleased vehicles + 1/2 new sculpts

Lost and Damned was never supposed to be anything more than a fanlist - AH summer 2006

I haven't updated the vault lists as the ACs haven't sent me anything (nids, amtl) -AH summer 2006

The restructuring of fanatic will mean improved support - JJ

JJ is still involved - AH.

SG should realise that if things change or are delayed then they shoud say that

I hate to play devil's advocate (especially when it comes to defending GW), but a lie is only a lie when you know the truth. I'm sure that the statements you got from JJ and AH were, to the best of their knowledge at that time, the truth. I don't think they have the final say about release dates; upper management probably does.

However, I do agree that given SG's track record, until proven otherwise, I'm going to assume the worst. Quite honestly, I expect nothing in the way of future epic releases.

Wow, Steve, chill out - you seem to have a lot of spite going on there. I think it's safe to say that Andy, Jervis, and even GW as a whole didn't deliberately lie to you. If you don't like the direction that FOL or Epic is going then make your own way - that's what most of us here do. If there aren't any list or modles for something, then make it up yourself. That's what I did with Necrons and the Thousand Sons I'm working on. It's not like the GW 'Official' seal of approval means that much to most of the players anyway. How often do you play in a tournament where you need 'offical' lists? For me it's pretty rare so I'm happy with lists that are in flux and scratchbuilt models. That's the best part of the hobby anyway. Big Brother doesn't need to approve for you to still enjoy your game. If you want new releases of models and suppliments, then  go to the other 6mm companies.

Anyway, sorry for the rant and I hope this doen't sound too inflammatory - it certainly wasn't an attempt to  provoke anything. Just commenting is all.

I have no spite just annoyance at SG.
Firstly in the Uk there are 7 tournaments each year (6 now that GW have axed theirs) in these we can only use official rules and armylists (+in 2 the BL and Nids) so, for me, it is important that development continues.
Hopefully L&D and BL will be official, hopefully the core rules review will be official, by next year but it doesn't look like it at the moment.

Also I dispute the idea that AH/SG are doing a good job in the circumstances. AH seems to have an aversion to keeping the community abreat of developments - eg fair enough if the Chaos plans had changed but announce it don't wait for the release window to end and hope nobody notices or  deny that any release was ever planned.
Regarding development and rules reviews AH, according to Neal, has  washed his hands of the review but at the same time is unwilling to update the rulebook.
THe main issue SG has is manpower and funding so why has it not used its main strength - the community. SG has sat on the Chaos lists for nearly a year - why not ask the community to write the fluff text and prvide nice photos? to get it in the official list area as a nice shiny finished armylist.
Why not back the variant Marine, Guard, Eldar lists - no new models required and it at least gives the rules development impetus.
