I'm currently basing my Iyanden using the fine slate out of the Games Workshop Urban Basing Kit. I'm rapidly running out and it was limited edition. Anyone know where I can get more from?

Garden centres might have something similar  - together with aquarium shops, these can provide a surprising array of basing stuff.

I thought about it, but this stuff is less than a mm across so I think ot would be too small for fishtanks and get caught in the filter and I can't see it used in gardens as it would just blow away.

ummm, had no idea it was so fine. Is there a pic of it somewhere? I might come up with something if I have a better idea.

I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about, either, but would mica flake from a mineral supply company work?

Wow, lovely model that Ratty - hadn't seen such a close-up view.
Anyway - I might be able to help. Have to get some stuff from work and will take a photo tomorow.

It's not the same stuff, I'm afraid - it's similar in appearance, but blacker in colour, and perhaps not as flat as the typical slate fragment. But as I said, I'll take a pic, and you decide if it's ok.

Personally I think I would get hold of a slate.....and a hammer
Hadn't seen that basing material before but will definitly have to give it a go for the urban pieces.

It's looking that way. the problem is finding a bag that doesn't disintegrate as soon as you clobber it.

I think that is activated carbon granules, they absorb odour. They are also usefull against radiation poisoning so be sure to eat lots next time you get caught in fallout :)
