Hi, I'm Sergeant_Crunch, and I'm addicted to little metal men and tanks.  I'm 31, married, and have 4 sons who I plan on indoctrinating...I mean introducing...to wargaming soon.

My first wargame experience was with Battletech back in the late '80s~early '90s, though I couldn't afford any miniatures (before I had a paycheck).  Gave it up as I wanted really big games, but Battletech just doesn't play well for big games.  Played RPGs a while then got back into wargaming in 2002 with 40k (big surprise huh?).  Got the starter box (the one with Space Marines and Dark Eldar) and eventually got a tournament army of Imperial Guard (which still needs to be finished painting).  I got tired of the whole "grim dark future" stuff (yeah, I'm a heretic) and switched over to CAV by Reaper to scratch that big stompy robot itch I've had since I gave up Battletech.

I also dabble in fantasy miniatures to work on painting techniques and have a couple small forces for Reaper's fantasy skirmish game (Warlord). Just need to get around to painting them.  (I really prefer sci-fi over fantasy.)

Check out the link in my sig to see pretty much everything I've painted so far.

As far as 6mm gaming goes, I'm probably going to go with Dirtside II for rules but am open to others.  I'm reading through both the Epic and NetEpic rules, but am looking for a more generic ruleset.  For miniatures I'm going to pick what I like from the various manufacturers.  I really want to see the Baccus line-up when they're released as the few pics released have been very tempting.  I'm waiting to see what comes out of Exodus Wars, but the two main factions while well sculpted don't do much for me style-wise.  Hopefully some later stuff will tickle my fancy as they seem to have high production values.  A lot of the DRM line is calling to my wallet as well.

Despite not really being into the 40k universe I decided to sign up here since it's the self-proclaimed center of the 6mm gaming universe and look forward to hanging out with yall.

Welcome!

I loved your photos. ?Great work all around.

Dirtside rocks and you can get the rules for free.

Epic  is also a very impressive game system that I think can easily be adopted to non 40K sci-fi games.

Do you do any Startship combat games or are you a ground pounder at heart.   :D

I love battletch too and agree it's a lance vs lance game.  Too clunky otherwise.

Hope you like are little part of the web.

I've got the Full Thrust rules (can't beat free!) but need more ships.  So many minis, only so much cash.  That and the wife gets antsy when I start looking at new types of games.

I'll game just about anything, trick is finding opponents that play anything other than WHFB or 40k.  Luckily my wife will play in the odd chance the kids will leave the terrain alone.

You may want to take a look at MegaMek. ?It's a network-enabled, multiplayer implementation of the Classic BattleTech rules written in Java, and distributed under the GNU GPL (which actively encourages sharing the game). ?It's pretty surprising how much easier company-sized battles go, when the computer handles all the dice rolling and damage tracking. ?It's still not a really big battle (not like E:A), but it's quite nice.

[disclosure]I used to spend quite a lot of time coding for MegaMek[/disclosure]

Welcome to the Show, Sarge ! ?As I said, This is the center of the 6mm Sci-fi Uni ! ?And the Honchos at DRM and E/Wars are "Homies" on this site. ?Plus I'm the only living former member of Hammer's Slammers on this site ! LOL ! ?As you can see, there is an eclectic lot in this crew.  Gamers, modellers, historians, Sci-fi fans, Aliens, Freaks, Geeks, Mutants and friends, etc., etc. all right here ! ? So you are in the right place ! ?I'll check out your pics next ... :D

I prefer the term nerd over the term geek, but I'm sure both apply equally well.

And L4, don't look at the red wuns!

Played MegaMek for a short while, but the whole system for Battletech just irks me now.

As you can see, there is an eclectic lot in this crew.
Seems to be a common affliction amongst wargaming forums, self included. LOL

Hi Sarge, and welcome - some very nice work there in that photobucket. I particularly liked the Wolverine colour scheme.
Around this corner of the forum we're also into historicals, fantasy, Victorian sci fi (huzzah!) and alternative WWII (and in my very particular case, an alternate Venice between 1850 and 1950; don't ask). And there's also two new ranges of 6mm sci fi figures produced by members of the forum which are on the market - and rules for both should be appearing too.

Hello Sgt, welcome to our forum!  I hope you'll enjoy being part of our little community  :D

You needn't worry about indoctrination, I prefer conversion by stealth... just leave a few miniatures and rulebooks where your sons can see them, let them watch you painting, answer questions as they arise... it worked for me - no pressure, no cajoling, and now my fiancee's children are both starting modest armies!

Oh, L-4 & Consectari: I'm a Geek and I'm proud!  :;):  :p

Welcome aboard sarge. Some excellent paintjobs you have there. And I see they won L4 stamp of approval right away.

Special kudos on the engines of the spaceships.

EDIT: as for eclecticism and nerdiness; did I say I build Zoids?  :;):
