I take sauna regularly, but that's because my inlaws are Finnish!

Well it's been a while since I've last been in one. Just moved to  anew city so I haven't had time to do a proper "sauna-crawl" yet.
...Besides: Don't you need to have snow outside for a proper die hard Finnish Sauna experience? :D

Well summer that would be cold drink (what ever is your preferance) and lake. Unfortunately I don't have a lake next to my apartment so I have to content with cold drink and balcony :p.

Oh heck, I messed up. I 'voted' never having been in one, but I forgot the Russian ships we were building at the old yard had a sauna - so I've entered several times - only not with the steam on, and at the stage my men were working in it, it was just bare steel.  :p
By the way, does the local weather countas a sauna? Especialy in our labs with the laser, vacuum furnace and nitriding furnace ALL on on an August afternoon?  :(
COld drinks in a balcony, we do.  :p

This thread makes me want a proper sauna ? I?ve only experienced crappy UK gym ones.

Mind you, you ought to be careful when asking for the nearest sauna in London.  You might not end up quite where you planned

Yep. That's the problem when you are outside of Finland. And also the cause of many queer looks from those not initiated to the real purpose and meaning  of sauna.

I still think your average Brit would think of the Finnish variety first.  The alternative meaning only really applies to inner cities.

Good. That means civilisation has progressed as, about 10 years ago, I heard some pretty weird comments about what people think is being done in sauna.

Ah, but where were you?  If you were in a big city then that wouldn?t surprise me.

If not, then perhaps I?m wrong

Yes, like wearing clothes and/or towels .

Heck, I usually wore a boiler suit, safety boots and hard hat....

Well ... I was for a weekend in Edinburgh buring the exchange time. In there while walking we saw a sign 'Sauna' with red neon pointing to a basement door. I'm pretty sure that I would have not found a finnish sauna there :D.

I'm sure it would have made you hot under the collar one way or another...

Under trade descriptions act they should have some sort of sauna down there even if it was just a kettle and a couple of garden rocks from B and Q!

When I have a gym membership to a facility that has one I use it religiously.  180F/80C, with water is the best way to go as far as I'm concerned but many places around here have a restriction to 160F/70C for fear of people having medical issues.

And, of course, it should be followed by the immediate cold shower (since gyms in the souther US tend to have neither a cold lake nor snow readily available).

As it is, I work for one university and attend another so I have plenty of gym access as a worker/student but neither place has a sauna.  I haven't been in one in ~2 years so I marked that I've been but neither of the "x-time period" choices apply currently.
