Well, I feel I'm still trying to figure out what I'm meant to be doing in Real Life ™ (you've started something there, Justiniel!)

I'm possibly the most technically qulaified person on this board, so it seems: ?I have no background in Computers, Engineering, Military etc.

After finishing school, I was meant to go to University, but during my 'Gap-Year' I did some volunteer work as a one-to-one carer for a man with Cerebral Palsy. ?I realised I enjoyed Caring work far more than I was interested in History ?:laugh: which was what I was meant to be studying, so I decided not to go to University.

Despite a VERY brief Sojourn as a professional drummer (two weeks! ?:D ) shortly after that, I did some work with Elderly people in Nursing Homes (which was quite emotionally exhausting, I can tell you), then I settled in a job with Mencap, working in a home for adults with Learning Disabilities.

At the time I was very involved with a Church (I don't go anymore though), and got involved in a lot of Youth Work as a volunteer. ?My church even paid for me to do a part-time certificate in Theology.

But it was through doing Youth Work that I came to get hooked on Wargaming - there was a Church-supported Wargaming club for young people aged between 10-18years, and they needed extra helpers so I got involved in that. ?I started collecting some armies in order to understand what the kids were all playing... and within a few short weeks, I was completely hooked! ?:D ?That was 7 years ago now.

Anyway, I became interested in International Development, spent a year working as a volunteer with a Development charity - going in to Churches, youth Clubs and schools to talk about poverty in developing countries.

I then went to University to do International Development Studies, which I acheived a First in this year. ?I would very much like to work for a Development Charity (in a campaigning/educational type-role), but all the jobs that come up want experience/qualifications in MARKETING and Business ???? ?so it seems I studied the wrong course to get in to my chosen field...

So it seems I'll be moving to France and running a B&B with my fiancee and her family... and, if things go to plan, offering holidays/retreats for Wargame addicts like us, ha!

I think what keeps me interested in the hobby (other than having a back-log of about 10 armies to paint!) is the background: ?I really enjoy films, music, just pop-culture in general I guess, so I like the way the 40k universe (like most good sci-fi) reflects today's world/society/culture.

Gosh, this turned in to a mini-biography, my apologies for boring you all! ?:laugh:

No Problem Vermis ... the English language is full of words like that ... Klingon is much simpler !  LOL !  Well as I suspected, we have a vast array of talent here !  Looks like a lot of intelligent, well rounded mature, individuals, with a lot of various skills and interests ... even if we play with toys soldiers ! :;):

My life is short and simply.

I have a BSc in physics and the universe, and I still don't know what that means.  :p (we studied history and philosophy as well as condense matter and something called quantum)

For money I work as a Labtech at a local school/sixth form, where the teachers perster me to learn how to teach physics (once I get over my rational hatred of children I might).

I also run a wargaming club twice a week after school, and I'm slowly converting those who go to specialist games

Hi all,

I'm a civil engineer working on highways and small building projects. I also carry out structural surveys and am retraining to be a Home Inspector as well.

Of course, my cash cow has been blown out of the water with HCRs no longer being mandatory. /shrug/

I have a $2 million dollar contract being held up because one of our loser attorneys who knows next to nothing about federal contracting is concerned about the language IN A STANDARDIZED FORM!!!

Who flipping cares??!?!?!!  It a freakin' US government standardized document!!  No one can change it!.  Not the primary contractor.  Not us.

Everyone freakin' signs them.  It's standard operating procedure in the government contracting world.  You sign the stinkin' Reps and Certs and then you require all your subs to sign an identical document and they require their subs to sign an identical document and so on until the chain runs out or the eskaton comes!

Meanwhile I have to look like a total numbnut going back to someone who is trying to give us money and complain about how they are choosing to do so in order to mollify her.

Good one, F/S !  I'm reading the NIV Study Bible from cover to cover ... for the first time. Still on the OT ... Dueteronamy (I know I spelled that wrong!) ... Figure I read everthing else plus I need all the "Divine Intervention" I can get !  A little "Air Support" never hurts !

Used to be a Yeoman (super-clerk, Admin or Executive Assistant in the real world) in the US Navy, working on subs. (Yes, the Navy screens submariners for psychological problems.  No, I don't know what they're actually looking for, except claustrophobia.)  I was stationed on SSBNs.  Boomers.  (Where's my underway shirt for Tactical Readiness Evaluations? ... Here it is, "24 empty tubes and a mushroom cloud.  It's Miller Time.")  As such, I've ended up with a great deal of knowledge in many different fields, some of which I can actually share with the rest of the world.

Now that I'm out, I'm looking for work, as an admin assistant, and I plan on going back to school to get the BA in Business that is holding me back from management, to be followed by an MBA in International Business, leaning toward Asian studies as a minor or double-major.

I'm a compulsive rules-buyer and anime addict, too.

Go Navy !  I had a TS for my additional duty as an Atomic Demolitions Missions Officer, when I was in the 101. And now I have PTSD !  :;):  But I didn't really get crazy until a few years ago !  LOL !!!  :D
