Loved the battle report, and especially the pic of the Harridan's bio weapon hitting the Chimeras! I know it's just the reflection from the lights above, but it looks like a couple of tanks are really going up in flames under that template...

Yeah, I really lucked out with that template attack picture, didn't notice the "flare-up" until I'd started editting the pics! ?*laugh*

How did it feel not using objectives? And care to post the escalation rules that you used?

Not having objectives, and the "escalating" nature of the game made for quite a different experience from "normal" EPIC. ?All-in-all, it was a heckuva lot of fun!

"Escalating Engagement" is an alternate mission found in the 6.6 Scenarios section of the rulebook, page 141.

I'm hoping to try out a couple of the different scenarios in to campaign.

Excellent narrative and nice battle rep... Good to see that Tyranids can die ?:)

Yeah, they can die... *laugh* ?And they can fail to spawn... *and* they can fail to assault!

If I'd succeeded on either one of those engages in Turn 4, I think it would've been quite a different battle. ?Of course, both sides failed a significant number of activations, so I'm not *that* bitter.

I just hope the Tyranids can survive the campaign long enough to actually *get* the Red Queen! ?*laugh*

I love that shot too, it looks great, I initially wondered if it was photoshopped.

Great report, really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the BatRep, I really enjoyed the pictures!
I like the neo-wheat field idea, perhaps I will adopt that some time in one of my battles.

The guard player was really lucky with his rally rolls, if it hadn't suceeded that oftened the outcome of the battle could have been quite different.
When I play IG I often have formations that never come back into the game after they broke and only idle around or they never get rid of their BMs :(

I am eagerly waiting for the Red Queen to come in one of your next batreps :)

Yeah, it was a really cool spin on things, since any fights inside them were limited to the 10cm spotting distance, made fire fights very unusual, and the mental image of Guardsmen cautiously moving through the tall grass while the Tyranids stalked them was very appealing.

The guard player was really lucky with his rally rolls, if it hadn't suceeded that oftened the outcome of the battle could have been quite different.

Yeah, my opponent's dice were on fire! ?Lots of "5"s and "6"s out there, but we both had bad dice as well, and my opponent certainly earned the win!

I am eagerly waiting for the Red Queen to come in one of your next batreps :)
Depending on the results of the next game or two, it may be a while before She shows up, but I'm looking forward to Her appearance as well!

With such a major win, the Imperials have the advantage so they'll be taking the offensive in the next battle, probably a "Raid" scenario of some kind.

Thanks for the deathwishes!  *laugh*

I've got to write a little epilogue for the good Colonel yet to "finish" this installment and then get working on the next battle.

Incursion - Epilogue

? ?Colonel Smyke wiped the sweat and blood from his brow. ?The horror that had befallen the vast farm was almost beyond imagining, not Ork raiders, but something far worse. ?His soldiers had investigated the ruins of the outpost, but no signs of the former occupants could be found, not a single survivor. ?As well, he had been forced to have his men put the silos to the flame, as a feathery grey fungus had seemed to have contaminated all the storage bins. ?He knew they had been lucky to survive the encounter with these bizarre creatures, rolling up the road as if he'd been out for a holiday drive: he would not make that mistake again; Rothschild was right about the need for eternal vigilance.

? ?The death of the great winged beast had thrown some confusion into the creatures, though they had still put up a half-hearted resistance. ?A few were still out there, lurking in the fields or hiding in the tree line, though they seemed disorganized and more animalistic than when they had first attacked. ?Some of the smaller flying ones had even ignored the approach of his men, blindly feeding on the massive corpse of what must have been their twisted mother. ?Even as his soldiers lasgunned them down, survivors would shift to better feeding positions until they too were killed. ?Perhaps their apparent stupidity would mean the eventual death of the scattered alien survivors and the Colonel hoped this was the end of the matter, a greater tragedy averted.

? ?"Colonel, I think you'd better see this," one of the locally raised Rough Riders called out, his arm was wrapped in bandages and his wyrhorse bore nasty scratches on its scaled flank. "Something's happening over the Ridge!" His face was noticeably pale.

? ?Smyke invited the wounded Guardsman to mount up in his command Chimera, along with Commissar Rothschild and the rest of his staff. ?Well, aside from Sergeant Vilstev, critically injured saving the Colonel from the razored claws of one of those skittering monsters, it was unlikely he'd live through the night.

? ?The Chimera climbed the rugged ridge, angling for the gap called the Eye. ?The armoured vehicle made its way through to see the twisted, tree filled valleys beyond. ?The Colonel motioned for his aide to open the top hatch so they could all get a better view. ?What lay before them stunned them all into silence, even the Commissar's face held a look of stark disbelief.

? ?Contemptuous of danger, last to leave a fight, Rothschild was the first to speak: "We had best return to the garrison Colonel, we must report this. ?It is far more than we can hope to fight alone."

? ?The grand valleys beyond were filled with trees, trees that swayed and pitched with a vigorous life, a horrid life, an alien life?
