Well, got a game in with the Cultists tonight!  It's been a long time coming and I had to blow the dust off a couple of models.

Faced off against our normal Tau player (using proxies, of course!  No one around here wants to spend any money on ForgeWorld until the Tau list is more finalized) and the Battle Report should soon be up!

Setup

4x4 table
Tau chose edge deployment.

Garrisons and Deployment

Neither army had any reserves.

Tau placed no garrisons.

Lost and the Damned garrisoned everything except Coven 3 and the Traitor Russes.  All were placed in cover, with the Hellfire Cannons and Coven 1 on overwatch.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy roll: Tau

With a cry of "For the Greater Good!" Crisis Cadre 2 doubles forward, jumping into ruins, firing at Coven 2, and killing a single Cultist.

The Shas'O follows suit (no pun intended) and does exactly the same thing, right down to killing a single Cultist, and finds himself hopelessly intermingled with Crisis Cadre 2.

The Slaaneshi Daemon Prince salivates in anticipation and summons forth 3 Daemonic Beasts and then realizes that the Tau Battlesuits can flit away and, due to the building in the way, get out of line of sight of most of his/her followers if she/he tries to engage them! ?She/he angrily orders a sustained fire attack on Crisis Cadre 1 which does precisely squat. ?*SIGH*

The Tetras perform a co-ordinated fire attack with AMHC 2 against Coven 2. ?The Pathfinders double forward, staying low to the ground and out of LOS of the Hellfire Cannons, but catches the overwatch fire of Coven 1 and manages to kill 2 Big Mutants.

AMHC 2 also doubles, using the ruins to shield itself from the Hellfire Cannons and unleashes a veritable torrent of high tech projectiles on the Chaos cultists? and manage to do diddly! ?(Yeah cover saves!)

The Traitor Russes advance up the hill to hammer the Tetras, destroying 3 Piranhas and 4 Tetras, easily breaking the contingent.

AMHC 1 doubles forward to fire on Coven 2, killing a Mutant and dissipating a Daemonic Beast breaking the Chaos worshippers and causing the other 2 Daemonic Beasts to vanish. ?The howling Coven flees back towards the LatD table edge, looking for cover.

Coven 3 tries to march forward, but seeing the Daemon Prince fleeing shakes them up, and even the terrible cries of the Arch-Heretic don't get them to move, they stick to cover and regroup.

The Daemon Knights double around the flank of AMHC 2, castigating them severely, but only take out 1 Hammerhead.

The Hellfire Cannon stay on overwatch?

End of Turn: All Tau rally while Coven 2 fails to rally.

Strategy roll: Chaos

The Daemon Knight chitter with glee as they sustain fire on AMHC 2, downing 2 Hammerhead, 1 Swordfish, and breaking the Tau tank formation which quickly flees.

The Traitor Russes rumble forward to advance on Crisis Cadre 1, blasting apart 2 Crisis Teams and forcing the Shas'O to back off.

AMHC 1 doubles into the Chaos backfield, staying out of LOS of the Hellfire Cannons, and proceeds to wipe out Coven 2 with a furious fusillade of fire.

Coven 1 summons up 4 Flamers and proceeds to engage AMHC 1. A Mutant and a Cultist go down, but only 2 Hammerheads survive to fall back to the Tau half of the battlefield.


The Tetras advance on the Daemon Knights and place a single Blast marker.

Crisis Cadre 2 also advances on the Daemon Knights and succeed in destroying two of the infernal machines. ?The remaining two break and stride of toward the Tau Blitz with terrible high-pitched shrieks.

Coven 3 manages to march up the right flank seeking cover in the woods?

The Hellfire Cannon stay on overwatch?

End of Turn: All formations rally!  The four Flamers return to the Summoning Pool...

Strategy roll: Tau

Crisis Cadre 2 advances, *just* staying out of line of sight of the Hellfire Cannons, and fires on the Traitor Russes, taking out 1 Leman Russ.

Crisis Cadre 1 advances to get just within range of Coven 3 and proceeds to blast apart 2 Cultists and 2 Mutants!

Coven 3 sustains fire on Cadre 1, placing a single Blast marker.

The Daemon Knights advance back towards Tau Objective 1 to fire on the Tetras. ?A Piranha and a Tetra go down and the survivor flees back to the Tau Blitz.

AMHC 1 doubles, again staying low, and fires on the Daemon Knights, cracking one apart and breaking the remaining one, which also flees towards the Tau Blitz!

AMHC 2 goes wide up the Tau left flank, staying just out of range of the Hellfire Cannons and pops up to rain fire on the Traitor Russes, taking out two of the corrupted tanks and breaking the formation which tries to trundle out of sight.

The Hellfire Cannons finally make a move, advancing to secure both Chaos Objectives 1 and 2 and fire on Crisis Cadre 2, eliminating a single Crisis team.

Coven 1 calls upon the Ruinous Powers and receives all six remaining Lesser Daemons in the form of Flamers and proceeds to engage AMHC 2 in a vicious firefight with the support of Coven 3. ?The Tau respond by counter-charging one Hammerhead into Coven 3, drawing the Blast marker covered cultists into the fray and allowing Crisis Cadre 1 to support! ?The Forces of Chaos manage to suffer only 2 casualties, a Cultist and a Mutant from Coven 3 which, unfortunately, breaks them. ?The also eliminate all but a single Hammerhead from the Mobile Cadre, easily winning the fight and breaking the nearby Crisis Cadre. ?The completely uninjured Coven 1 eagerly consolidates towards the Tau half of the battlefield when they discover this:

Only Daemons will be able to cross onto the Tau half of the battlefield? and they'll be vanishing in the End Phase?

End of Turn: LatD 1 (TSNP) vs Tau 2 (BTS, TSNP!!!)

My opponent really went Patient Hunter on my butt!  *laugh*  He used excellent placement and mutual support and really handed me the hurt!

Dancing around, staying tantilizingly out of reach, I was really impressed!

Dang Tau!  *laugh*
