Thanks for the report. Very interesting. I must admit that I was getting worried about SST as it seems to suffer the same problems as Lord of the Rings - the bad guys never win. This report has helped to set that straight.
Well some people claim it's the MI that never seems to win
However I agree arachnids DO have slight disadvantage at beginning. However that's NOT due to point issues or game design as such but because of one little thing: Money!
You see MI have plenty of unit upgrades available ranging from heavy weapons to drop pods to nukes and whatnot. Top of that they have quality stuff(exo-suits etc) which means that for small money they can get expensive(but good) stuff.
This creates slight problem that arachnid players collections are easily not as excessive as MI players have which means MI players can easily tailor-make their army to counter arachnid army. Imagine how hard AMTL would have if IG player suddenly brings 18 shadowswords...
Arachnids have plenty of choises but unfortunatly less choises in UNIT upgrades(basic warriors are bit of exception as they can take workers&warriors, endless tide, carrion bugs or combination of them). This can leave them bit...predictable. Atleast untill they can increase their collection a bit.
There's gaming group where group basicly pools their models for big collection in their gaming room. This means arachnids have practically everything at their disposal in practically any combination. No balance problems there since MI cannot tailor-make their forces against them anymore.
And for my games? Well MI collection isn't all that excessive either so tailoring forces isn't that easy. Still I did manage to sneak in drop pods which kind of highlights it...
