Thanks to everyone on the well-wishes.

By the way, my thesis will be on the treatment of technology in literature.

Tentative topic is modern Icarus myths - a person (or persons) receives some form of technology without being properly prepared and suffers disastrous consequences as a result.

If you have any suggestions for applicable works, let me know.  I know that such stories abound in scifi, but scifi is probably not a good option unless it's from one of the handful of writers that have recieved mainstream recognition  - Bradbury, Ellison, Vonnegut and so on.

Hi Neal,

Mazel Tov!

I might suggest checking out the "cargo cults" in Polynesia for starters.

And the intorduction of modern agricultural techniques into the Ottoman Empire has been documented many times.

I can think of quite a few of your "Daedylus and Icarus: incidents.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

That's a nice way of dovetailing a Master's thesis with gaming.  :D

That's good, Neal. Try CSLewis' Space trilogy; not to mention HGWells' Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The first men in the moon.

Neal,

Don't restrict yourself to Western authors.  There are some Japanese authors out there with an excellent grasp of how technology affects people.  I can't remember the gentleman's name ATM, but he is a contributor/advisor to the stories in the Ghost in the Shell:  Stand Alone Complex TV series.  Of course, this does require either an English translation of the work, or being able to read Japanese yourself.

*****************

Sat down and started painting my ESWAT Fire Warriors, since today is a 'dead' day, with no (new) job leads in the paper and no interviews scheduled.

36 of the little blighters to paint, plus 3 Shas'ui (converted from Pathfinders), and 12 Pathfinders plus 6 Railfinders.  Still haven't decided how to paint all the pathfinders yet.  I have two different Tau armies (different paint schemes), and already have one Pathfinder squad painted up for the 'Desert' Tau.  One squad of Pathfinders (and half the Railfinders) will certainly get painted up in ESWAT blue, but I'm not sure about the second.  I could use a lot of Pathfinders in either force...

Still working on the Landmate suits as well.  The time required for the conversions is rather daunting for getting them done.  2 hours of filing per suit is frustrating.  They look great once they're done, though.

I've got the start of my third Broadside's gun built, and am getting the arms to line up as I build it.  Still need to build up the shoulder pads, though.

This is sometimes the hardest part for me, deciding exactly how I want to paint something.

One problem with the Pathfinders is that all the ESWAT fire warriors have been converted to have short pulse rifles, by cutting off the Photon Grenade Launchers from the pulse Carbines.  The Pathfinders still have their Grenade Launchers, but the 'carbine' they carry is otherwise the same size as the Fire Warrior's 'rifle'.  There could be some confusion as to who's armed with what if I include Pathfinders.

My other problem with the ESWAT scheme is that it's Regal Blue fatigues with Ultramarines highlights, and Ultramarines armor with Lightning bolt highlights.  The armor kind of blends into the fatigues.  I guess I'll have to blackline the armor plates to separate them from the fatigues (or highlight the armor up even brighter, or both), and I hate the way blacklining looks.

Except for flocking, I finally finished my 20 IG heavy stands. Yay! I also finished 5 tarantulas, which really only needed some finishing touches. MY WIP list is almost complete, with 3 Razorbacks, 6 Deathstrikes and about 7 Titan heads and weapons.

It actually rains in Malta, V?

DS, you'd better buy some more minis... It sounds like you're running out of unpainted lead!

Spent some time assembling my Commando 150s and reading a book for work.

Real Life has taken a toll on my free game related time.
