Primarch.

Hi Primarch,

There's a reason why I'm the FAVORITE uncle!

My nephews actually thought my name was "uncle" until they got much older. It was so pervasive that my own sister would slip and call me "uncle." Even my own mother would forget and call me "uncle" around them. I just went with it.

My new nephews and niece (the ones by sister's marriage also thought I was "uncle" until earlier this year) also seemed to go with the joke. the youngest one, Ryan, now knows that I have a real name, but he says he likes me better as "uncle."

Sometimes life is definitely stanger than fiction.

At any rate, I take my duties as "uncle" pretty seriously and do my best to spoil "my own" the best I can. Family's family and that's important!

You can't pick your family, but you can certainly make the best out of it and appreciate it every day.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

I may also get hired for the second job with the State...

I had a slam dunk interview this morning (23 August 2006). Sometimes, being a Spanish speaker is of the greatest benefit. And even better, they were also hoping to find a Russian speaker and I can do both. Serendipity beckons.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

Its good you have such a great relationship with the nephews. I think it will help you greatly if some day you have your own children. :)

Hi Guys,

The latest news is that the big State job is calling my references, which means that they're seriously considering hiring me.

They've also contacted me for more references so I've been scrambling to get permission from folks.

I'm excited.

It's a great job with a very generous salary and full benefits.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Everyone,

The news is out and I was called early this morning (25 August 2006) and offered the State job. I accepted. He, my new boss, said that he'd call personnel right after we got off the phone earlier this morning and see if he can arrange for me to come down later today or on Monday to sign contracts and get started.

This was the break that I've been waiting for a little over a year... working cruddy low-paying jobs and trying to keep myself from drifting too deeply into the depression dumps. So, for the rest of you out here in a tough position, there is hope.

I'll be training and learning the program and office for the first few months and then I'll be put to work doing field analysis, writing essays, making presentations and otherwise being an analyst.

I'll be specifically working with managed healthcare, which is fancy way of saying health insurance. ?More specifically, I'll be working with programs that provide health care to the poor and otherwise uninsurable.

Part of my job will be to work with the Spanish and Russian-speaking communities in California... to better serve them and make sure that they have health coverage. While there are a number of Spanish speakers in the office, I will be one of the only Russian speakers and they specifically wanted me to gain a better understanding of that community.

So, I'm happy. It's good to be wanted again.

It'll be even better when I get my first paycheck and am signed up for benefits (medical, dental, etc.).

I'm also looking forward to using public transport to get to work and not have to drive every day and pay for expensive downtown parking.

At any rate, they say that good news should be shared in the hopes that it rubs off on others... I sincerely hope it does.

Thanks for all of the support I've received from everyone here at Epicomms, through the good times and especially the bad ones.

Viva la Epicomms!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
