The Consortium knew that a small raiding force was present on the planet.  After losing several technicians out on the frontier, it became obvious that something was amiss.  Personnel were withdrawn from an area around the ancient Eldar gate and a heavy military presence was dispatched to discourage further attacks.

A spotter noticed a strange guttural sound from the Wraithgate.  "Legate Marshall, do the Eldar gates always make such a noise?"  The officer shook his head with concern.
"Pull the Land Trains back a bit further-" No sooner were the orders given when the giant beast squeezed out of the portal and began bounding across the battlefield.  All troops were put on high alert and their weapons trained on the strange beast.

The bombardment came as a surprise to many of the earthen warriors as fire rained down from the sky.  A dark beam of light struck the Colossus Command Vehicle but deflected into a nearby hill.  All eyes managed to look up as a black cloud descended upon them in the midst of the deadly shots.  This was no cloud, but a storm had indeed arrived...

Hellions poured out of the cloud on their jet boards.  Haemonculi and their vicious war engine manifested as well.  Reavers darted about along the hillside as the Vessels of Pain were discharged from the Executor's cargo bay.  The heavy barges immediately fired at the Colossus in a hellish volley, but once again the phantom lances proved no match for the deflector shields.
The Legate was already in communication with the Merchant Prince. "The Dark Eldar will not take hold of our equipment, let alone our people.  Let us show them what we're made of.  Hold the flank, I am taking us in."

The Prince ordered all of his cavalry and a nearby formation of Craftsman into the fray.   He would show this disgusting race what fear was about.  The combined force charged across the battlefield with orders to engage any and all.  The massive support craft above provided an eerie shade to the confrontation on the ground as the Steadholders did what they do best.

The Haemonculi pushed their Grosteques to the front as they saw the Hellions getting impaled on the cavalry weapons.  The Perditor sliced and cut its way through several bikes, but ultimately the machine was struck too many times to continue functioning.  The bodies within were finally released from their torture as the Perditor smashed into the ground.

The barges nearby held their position and fired solidly against the Craftsmen and their Rhinos.  Nobody dared cross the field in the firefight that was ensuing.

With half the Cavalry wounded or captured by the Haemonculi, the Supreme Commander saw that neither side had gained any ground.  He ordered the battle weary Steadholders back into the fray, but the Haemonculi in an uncharacteristic move, held off instead.  The fire support from the Executor above cut into the remaining cavalry, leaving the Prince standing on the battlefield with only his personal guard.

Meanwhile, the Rhinos nearby had been ripped apart and the Demiurg nearby were taking heavy casualties.  The assault had failed.  The Prince reluctantly ordered a full retreat, calling on the Legate to cover the remaining force with supporting fire.  In the end, the Dark Eldar held their ground and continued to take prisoners of the scattered assault force.

The Archon and his Retinue shot from the Webway portal, fully expecting to see the Executor in a processing mode. Instead the first signal he received was that his Dracon was killed in an attack and the Executor captain was acting in command.  How could this be?  The Demiurg attacked?  He contacted the Sybarite who controlled the scouting syndicates and ordered them up to reinforce the attack.  Little did he realize it was too little, too late.  The Legate continued to push his forces forward.  Partly out of a desire to avoid the strange beast that advanced on his right flank, but also to defend his brothers.  The barges must have had the same technology as the support craft as their vehicles were engulfed in a dark cloud.  The land train nearby struck the Executor and the shadowfields faltered.  The giant flying machine was finally visible.  It looked even more imposing than it had before.

The Archon called out, what is our status?

The Sybarite, finally arriving, responded.  "We've taken heavy casualties, Great One.  The enemy is advancing in full against our position!"

Another shot from the Land Train rocked the Executor above and debris from its port panels flew in all directions.

The Archon looked at his forces about him.  The position was strong, but not strong enough. ?Fall back!? he called out.  ?We?ll come about to their left flank and strike them hard behind the Kashnarak.?  Just then, four Iron Eagles popped up over the hill and fired directly on the Archon.  His Raider fell apart underneath him and his bodyguards were hurt badly.  The Incubi immediately formed a circle around their Archon and pulled him to safety.

Across the battlefield, the Goliath crew was finally getting back on their feet from the bombardment.  The targeting sequence was being input into their systems when a screeching sound could be heard from above.  Fighters strafed the crew and forced them back to the ground.  Then yet another set of flyers appeared.  These were coming in slower and the crew supervisor knew something was wrong.  The powerful razor lances fired deep into the left-most Goliath gun, the shell inside detonated and ripped it apart.  The ground shook and the crew scattered.  The nearby Raiders sniped at the broken Demiurg as they fled the battlefield in deep fear.

The Legate finally was able to get a hold of his Prince.  "The plan, Sire?"

The Prince answered back, albeit winded, "Split your fire between the support craft and the Incubi who have fallen.  Scouts have reported back that they believe it is their Commander.  I want his head!"

"And the mining sites?"

"Yes, of course, move two Iron Breaker Leagues to secure it.  Their support will only push the Dark Ones back further."

And it did.  The closest Syndicate fell back behind a nearby mountain, leaving their comrades behind to face the fire alone.  The second Syndicate did not fare as well and was virtually wiped out.

The Vessels of Pain targeted the Colossus yet again, and the giant tracked vehicle finally was struck.  The damage, although superficial, bolstered the Dark Kin's cause as they fell back behind the mountain as well.

The Executor gunners took advantage of the confusion in the Colossus crew and fired as the pilot retreated.  The parting blow ripped the side off the machine, forcing it back to their rear lines.  It was not destroyed, but soon enough it would be.

With the lines more clearly drawn, the Prince was able to rally his forces and drive them onwards.  His cause was simple, destroy the putrid Dark Eldar.  To the Archon, things were falling apart around him.  The communication between he and his forces were faltering amidst the technologically advanced jamming signals of the Demiurg and the continual losses that he took.

The Razorwing pilots were not answering their calls for the strike on the Colossus.  The Archon was sure that if it fell, the army would fall with it.  Still, he had already dispatched to have the Mandrakes make a stand to cover his own retreat while the flight of Scourges he enlisted took the mining equipment to the enemy's far right.

The Kashnarak bounded ever closer to it's prey. The stunty little bipeds frustrated the beast by just staying out of its reach.  It finally took interest in the giant multi-car vehicle in front of it.  The light emanating from the gun barrel twinkled, almost mesmerizing the beast.

The flames engulfed the Kashnarak, driving the beast into a horrible frenzy as it danced, collapsed, and twitched in a death throe.

The Archon looked about and saw his plans falling apart.  The Demiurg were no closer to retreating, and his forces had not captured a victim in hours.  The attempts to wipe out the Collosus had failed.  A pity, he thought.  It would have made for an interesting trophy to bring back to Commorragh.   The Sybarite reached out to his commander, ?Your Greatness, what do you wish us to do??

The Archon paused, then spoke, ?Destroy everything they have.  Lay charges around their precious mining equipment.  If they want it so bad, let them pay for it in lives.?  The Executor then swept across the field, picking up the remaining Dark Kin.  ?At least I have some new toys to play with,? the commander mused as he looked into the holding cells.  The branding of the captured Demiurg was well underway?

Across the field, the Prince?s troops weakly cheered.  The Legate approached him and drew him to the side.  ?It is a good thing we had the position we did.  Our losses could have been staggering.?

The Prince nodded in agreement.  This could not happen again if they were to grow their numbers and regain the Homeworlds again.

Game Review
Playing a large game with the Dark Eldar was a treat.  I was able to field a wide variety of formations, albeit most of them very small.

The Orbital Bombardment was a great success because ePilgrim piled his troops up right where I was striking.  It was a turkey shoot.  Unfortunately, he was too densely packed.  The number of activations he could bring in range did me some big damage.

The first assault was a combined assault of three Demiurg formations against EVERYTHING of mine.  Had he just declared it against the ground forces, he would have done much better.  But the drop really threw ePilgrim off.  In the end, he lost the assault, but I had taken 850 points in losses.  It was too much.

The Colossus took 7 TK shots in two turns and only 2 of them made it through the deflector.  The activations for turn two left me in a bind as well (failing them that is).

I also had two assaults where I rolled snake eyes. Ugh.

ePilgrim had two assaults where he took 100% losses just on bad armor rolls (failing all five 5+ RA saves is not good).

Rallying went well for me, contrary to odds.

Talos were once again a disappointment, but I believe I am just using them wrong.  Or the battle just dictated their use wrong.  Either way, I need to check them out further.

Executor was fun to play!  It is first and foremost a transport.  The weaponry is not that fantastic and shadowfields were stripped in the first volley against it.

The pair of Vessels of Pain were certainly the toughest firing wise.  Cosmic forces conspired to keep them from activating for two of three turns.

Watching the Kashnarak chase ePilgrim's army across the board was hysterical.  How I wish I had artillery to get the Demiurg - they were so bunched up!  Ultimately I can't think of a game where I wouldn't buy this thing.  I wouldn't always field it, but it certainly keeps your opponent on theri toes.  This game it killed absolutely nothing.  But I still loved it. :D

Game Results:
After 5 hours of play time (I was getting a lot of work calls) it was time to clean up.  Neither of us were in a winning position and no objectives met.  The Demourg most certainly had an advantage in fire power and activations, but the broken formations for him were piling up.

We called it a draw.  Comments welcome!
