I'm particularly pleased that some of these have finally been sorted out - eg pop-ups.

Did they really get sorted out or did people get so sick of fighting that they gave up and one "side" won?

This is a genuine question as I know I pulled out of the Pop-Up wars because of the fighting. I am really curious if in fact it did work out through compromise or exhaustion attrition.

It was one of those things for which there have been serious camps for the different positions for more than just the epic a rules (the fight had been going on for over a decade).  To answer your question I believe the end result was compromise because of exhaustion and attrition  :;):

Ultimately it had to come down to the ERC picking one of the solutions... and saying - lets go with this and playtest it. It was then modified slightly for clarity over several months.

This rule concept was generally very well received, and fighting (vigorous discussion?) was reasonably absent. No overwhelming criticisms or rejection emerged that could not be worked around. For the official final discussion if you care to view it, see here:

I do not WANT to see SG die.
I do not WANT to see the SG forums fail to support the games I like. ?
I do not WANT GW to not sell Epic.
I do not WANT to see Epic go the way of the Squats.

What. So my mental picture of darfca giving out manical laughter while saying 'Suffer you twisted evil spawn of corporation' while sticking pins into GW logo isn't true.... oh, well

:) :D

Oh I still do that, I just want my Epic minis too.  :p

Sounds like a good enough kind of thing.

I think it also shows how the lack of leadership in the past has hurt things and if the ERC can keep the respect of the fanbase, their leadership will make a big difference.

Agreed, the ERC can provide the leadership that is now "officially" lacking.

As one who is a hopeful cynic all I can say is:

Let's hope so.

[It would be a good sign of recovery to see JJ back in Epic business for a while but lately he's been given other things to work on. ? :(

The bast thing they could do for Epic is hand JJ a budget and leave him alone. Do not try and micro-manage him.

Course I will not hold my breath waiting for thaat to happen. ?:p

Hi!

Once GW "reassigns" Jervis to other things it is usually a bad sign for the game system that gets "orphaned" in this way.

Hi!

Any endevour like rules development, needs strong leadership, a sort of "the buck stops here" person.

Any time many passionate people discuss something like game rules, arguments are bound to develop, but its the leaders job to earn the respect and defference that his is the final say in a deadlock.

I should know, Ive done this for 10 years....  :;):

Yes Primarch, I agree. In any real project there needs to be the final decision maker, leader, visionary. Without this person most projects are doomed to flounder.
