RUN Dafrca!
Coming for you at 30+ kts!

Good grief, he's running a good speed....

Well what did you expect. I mean knowing I hit my head on the door while going to look out the window next to the restroom while touring a navy boat, Tas just wants to come help me ASAP.  :p

Right Tas, that is why you are going so fast. Right?

For jobs like this, I usually use blu-tac. Shape it and then add super glue - it gets absorbed into the blu tac and hardens to seal it nicely.

VERY interesting - thanks CS. I was messing around with PVA,  ok for narrow cracks, but it just flowed through the wider ones. ..

When you hit your head, did you fall on the floor?

Resin, but not a thick solid design. And it still has to be painted, of course....  :p

Hi all,
here's an insight into how an enginseer works.
episode 1 - enginseer, nosing about at the faculty at Univ, finds a discarded but brand new CD rack
episode 2 - said enginseer discovers why it had been abandoned: some silly bugger had assembled it in such a way as to prevent CDs from entering one of the 3 compartment areas! - and the design prevented any disassembly not requiring lasers or violence :p
episode 3 - enginseer keeps it, and finds a way to modify it - clever!
episode 4 - procrastination....
episode 5 - enginseer, tidying up, drops rack a height of 10cm and unbelievably it shatters! :(
episode 6 - tidying up some more, enginseer realises that part of its base is ideal to support Star Destroyer the base of which had been lost; he keeps both it and its twin component, the later being available for conversion to....?  :p

Wow, then I must be an Enginseer too. I have lived through that cycle so many times with so many things.

I had a Scharnhorst model myself and I don't seem to remember some of the bits around the chimney

CHIMNEY?  Good God, Sir! Naval vessels have funnels or stacks.  My grandmother's house has a chimney....

:-)

Ok, I tried to resist saying this but I just had to give in: how do you stack smoke?  :p

That battleship in the first post reminds me of some similar ones that I bought just for cannibalization into Battletech models and terrain features (they were quite cheap, really).

By the way... for filling fine gaps, my little recommendation is to get wax-based plasticine. You melt it over a flame until it flows and apply into gap. Cools back to hard quickly, then you just scrape off the excess. Works well enough for those super-thin ones where you can't get the normal putty to fill.

Thanks for the tip T5H - we must start pinning these tips somewhere handy again.

Daf - aren't we all enginseers?  :D

Mojarn - it's sold in packets which can be piled or stacked on top of each other. They're called 'imsiemer tat-twiebet' in Maltese - a colourful name meaning 'coffin nails'... :p

And apart from all this - another week from hell over! Four hours taking photos of a rock in the Maltese sun was fun, but devastating....
