I had a Scharnhorst model myself and I don't seem to remember some of the bits around the chimney

CHIMNEY? ?Good God, Sir! Naval vessels have funnels or stacks. ?My grandmother's house has a chimney....

:-)

So they don't have chimneys on the top floors or them navy boats?  :p

Well, a nice new find for me. I just love 1920s and 1930s aircraft designs, and these little tubs are grand:

Kudos to NZ ( :D hi Marckonz!) for keeping them flying. ?

Yes we have some strange hobbies in NZ... lada is a popular brand here ?:;):

Speaking of things recently rescued from the parents (and Eastern European influences)... here's a blast from the past which I made many years ago (the real one nearly crashed into NZ when it fell out of space a few years ago!):

Hm. Scharnhorst? Or Gneisenau? I'm not much of a naval enthusiast so I'm ashamed to admit I have no idea how to tell them apart...

i'll let you into a secret, Mojarn, but don't tell anyone.....
I forgot! ?:p

I don't think there were any significant differences between Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. I've never been able to tell them apart in pics.

It's not like the Iowa class where the bridge was redesigned after Iowa was launched.

Love it, looks like it was a nice one to build and paint.

Correct DS - on a personal note, the old S was my favourite, but the model was, I think, the G, as I don't recall ever having a model of S.
VERY nice model of the MIR, by the way - lovely paint job  :D

Beautiful MIR, very nicely done sir

Ahhhh, opening the floodgates of nostalgia Vanvlak (it must be growing another year older   ) Now I'm just going to have to climb into the attic and dig out all those old 'toys' for show and tell.

Good grief, he's running a good speed....

Meanwhile... I just discovered a few poblems with the Star Destroyer:
1 - over the years, I have misplaced the stand ?:(
[solution - make a new one!]
2 - the shield domes are very poorly cast and have poor detail
[solution - remove them, and compete the model as an interim Republic/Imperium cruiser design immediately before the classic SW SDs]
3 - some very poor fits - see pic for an example
[solution - device a new method for sealing cracks! - too many for my starndard sealer - Tamiya basic putty]

For jobs like this, I usually use blu-tac. Shape it and then add super glue - it gets absorbed into the blu tac and hardens to seal it nicely.
