I'm trying to paint a Stompa for each of the Ork Clans and having difficulty trying to make each unique.

So looking for ideas. I'm looking for painting suggestions or examples of other people's paintings too.

Here is what I have so far (only one painted).

Goffs - Power fist on Stompa to show it can get stuck in. Basic Black with some checkered white/black squares

Evil Sunz - Red, go fasta, so probably need some sort of conversion to make it look as if it will go fasta. Maybe add wheels to its feet

Bad Moons - Yellow, they're the rich ones right? So probably add loads of weapons and conversions.

Blood Axe - patched colour, not sure.

Deathskulls - The blue ones. They collect guns from the dead... so probably add a mismatch of weapons to stompa.

Snakebites - Brown, as they shun technology, I ripped the weapon arms off the stompa and dress it up with some fur.

Goffs: Sounds good - Pit slave arms make good Stompa (and Grotnought) CC weapons

Evil Sunz: Wheels sounds like fun. An extra large boiler modelled on might also do the trick.

Bad Moons: Sounds good as well. Extra armor plating would look good too I think.

Blood Axes: Tough one. Add some Imperial looking weapons maybe? Camo definitely a must.

Deathskulls: Just stick on whatever takes your fancy: Extra weapons, armor, stowage (lots of stowage!) etc. All painted in?mismatched colors of course.

Snakebitez: Brownish or just bare rusty metal. Maybe replace Stompa head with a big skull of sorts (maybe from a dead Squiggoth?) Boilers, funnels and stuff for an even more rag tag low tech look than usual.

Model the Blood Axe Stompa more like an Imperial Titan (the shoulders and the way the weapons are mounted) however keep the Ork equipment. Just make it more Imperial looking but with a very Orky touch to it.

Goff:  good

Evil Sunz:  Tracks would look better than wheels, imho

Bad Moonz:  black flame pattern (or reversed yellow flames on black), occasional garrish patterns/colors, zappy "hi-tek" weapons

Blood Axe:  Camo does not need to be "imperial" in color, just style.  For example green and orange (a la deer hunter camo) would be fine.

Deth Skullz:  I second WMN's stowage idea.  My Deth Skullz are based on a "mad jawa" theme where they trundle around in battlefortresses that they live out of, covered with stowage (or they will, should I ever get them built).

Snakebitez: Definitely steam-powered.  You could mount catapults (or other antiquated weaponry, say black poweder cannons) on the shoulders instead of gunz.

Incidentally, what is a "clam stompa"?  Is it anything like an orkish clam bake?

I came here looking for Ork machines with special feet to open up the clams!  :p

All I know is, it's armed with a Drawn Butter Projector.

I would absolutely love to see that ?

Also, what about making a flag for it with an imperial them "orkized", e.g., an ugly eagle with an ork face, as to trying to mimick the imperial symbols?

The stompas that I have painted are in Bad Moonz colors, but I didn't do any fun conversions. ?IMHO, checks are harder to get to look even than diagonal, "caution" stripes, and aren't as visually appealing. ?I rather like the look of my understated flames, but that's making a virtue out of necessity: I'm bad at drawing flames .

Checks are a challenge.  That's why I made my own in Photoshop, printed them on paper, and cut-and-pasted them as needed!

I'd definitely recommend getting a fine water resistent pen. It is a lot easier to paint the checked area whitye and draw on the black checks with a pen rather than a brush. It can be done quite small with good results. Once the pen is dry you can add some washes and stuff for a more worn look if you want

I could use some advice on how to find the correct pen.  The best I've come up with is a Sharpie brand variant that has a 2mm cylindrical point... and it's still too broad for the sort of work I want to do -- which is add details to a flag. "Photoshop, print, and paste" sounds like good advice, however, especially with my brand new printer.  I'll use the Gimp or Inkscape, instead, but once I have an image file, the application doesn't matter.

javelin98, how well do your printed checks do on a curved, textured surface like a Stompa's belly?  Have you any pictures?

I think art supplies stores carry them.

Not too bad, used on the flatter surfaces.  If I can get my digicam working tonight, I'll snap a couple pics for you of WIP Orks on my workbench.

I'd really appreciate that!  Thanks!
