It?s no longer in the shopping centre. I am guessing that?s where it was last time you checked. It?s now on the street by that shopping centre. Looks pretty flash ? lots of tables and space.
Dwarf Supreme, IMO it?s a mistake to compare to ?the good old days?. GW has changed ? the Specialist Games are now its embarrassing cousins (the ones that show up the rest of the family) and they?d rather not draw your attention to them.
It?s an unusual business plan, I agree, but that is what the plan is (and I do see the logic, even if I think it?s flaky). My point is, so as long as that is GW?s strategy, don?t expect their stores to carry many, if any, SG models.

I agree, by not stocking at least the basic armies GW creates a self fulfilling prediction. They claim it does not sell well, but by not stocking it, it makes the game harder to buy, thus sales will be less.

They don?t want it to sell too well. If they promote it too much kids will take it up, plenty will realize it?s a better game (not so bad for GW) and plenty will realize it?s cheaper than 40k (very bad for GW). As it is, only those who actively go searching, possibly after realizing the limitations of 40k, will get into it and without the Specialist Games GW could easily end up losing their business completely.
There is some logic to what GW is doing, even if we?d all rather GW had a change of heart and decide to support Epic with more gusto.
I don?t know offhand how many of you are in the UK. Maybe it?s easier to see the silver lining here because the player base doesn?t seem quite so non-existent.

My local store sells no Specialist Games stuff either, but I was surprised when I went down to Memphis on a business trip. I found a GW shop that had a HUGE collection of Epic Armageddon. All four lines were present and in quantity. Funny enough the store manager said that he sold quite a bit, as the Epic players there would be playing, the 40K players would see the game, then impulsively buy a bunch of Epic. Goes to show you there is something said for having the product on hand.
I bought about $100 worth too, then had to smuggle it past my wife as I was unpacking.

Heh. On my roughly twice-annual trips to Memphis to play with Greg Lane and crew, my wife knows to expect a $50-100 purchase and possibly more.

I'm nowhere near a GW store anymore, but I used to be a key-timer. And from my experience, while it can be very random, GW stores are by no means the worst place to look for people to play Epic. The staff are often old-timers with a background in the vintage games. I know we had 'beginners' days devoted to the specialist games. And we sold a lot of epic via mail order, although how much of that was mageboltrat, I'm not too sure...
Oh, and GW's no 1 rule was "always jump on anyone who enters the store and shout 'hi' in an over-enthusiastic way" (something like that, anyway...)

 A widespread rule... I've had it done to me in at least 3 stores in the UK and in one in France... the latter eventually had to see an ID to confirm the credit card was ok, (yes, I sadly cannot go into a model store and emerge empty-handed) then spent ten minutes showing everyone in the store the Black Templars' emblem on the ID card.... the Maltese cross.

Absolutley. Of course you have to purposefully say "Just looking, thanks" (assuming you are). Any waivering and they will spot your weakness and spend the next ten minutes selling you an army of Kroot pensioners

Actually, I have found that if you are quick, you can get away with "Well, I was looking for Epic since I played it before GW stopped stocking it. I have a huge Ork Horde but just need some new Stompas...". This normally has a fascinating effect!

Asking when the next Space Hulk Tournament is, or when the Blood Bowl League starts also gets a good effect!
Or say "no I dont play 40k/WFB/LOTR becasue I have all these excellent SG ranges to enjoy so why should I?"

Heh. I recently had one of the employees start telling me stuff about Epic. Although I usually refrain from dropping "cool rocks" I finally had to tell the guy "I was an original playtester and I'm the army champion for Orks" just to get him to stop lecturing me.
Most of the guys that work there know I'm a hard core epic head, but this guy was new.
