So... I finally got around to trying to paint the first of my titan legion. Which turned out not at all how I was hoping, but it's amusing to say the least...
So, I started out by base-coating it black, as I usually do, and decided I wanted to try to paint them up in an urban-cammo sceme, black, grey, white, little brown. The idea being that it'd break up their profile and make them harder to see (Plus I like the old fluff involving titans which had cammo coloring). The idea behind the legion itself was that they existed to reclaim the titans which were lost in battle with the enemies of the Emperor. Were another Legio to fall, their duty would be to reclaim the lost pieces and return with them to Mars, that the god-machines could be repaired, or if repairs were impossible, layed to rest. Our gaming table happens to have lots of city terrain and I liked the idea of black based titans with cammo colors...
Sadly, it didn't work the way I had hoped... So... Well, I'll leave you to comment on it. I give you the Animus Ultio warlord Titan:

You could try to apply the paint with a dryer drybrush which will produce some softer transitions between the colors. Also a bit of shadingh might work in yoyur favour. Try some thinned down black and wash all over the model.

I think it is a nice start. If you want to make it look better, I would:
1) Lightly dry brush some dark grey onto some of the black areas. Remember that in real life there is almost never a true black. Blacks almost always have dark grey highlights as the item reflects light. This will give the Titan a "real" feel as well as pick out details.
2) Now hit some details to bring them out. Paint a few of the cables red or green or blue to make them stand out. Add some alternative colors to the weapons, like a very dry brush onto the barrels of the main weapon. These details enhance the overall feel in my opinion.
3) Finish the base. Once you get a street and a few ruins onto the base, it will also add to the overall feel.
I hope these help, they are just my opinions and do not reflect facts. others might disagree.

Well, I went back through and added a bit more color to it. Trying to even out the cammo feel of it a little more... Probably didn't work very well. But, here's another picture:
