TURN 1

The Deathwtach chooses to leave the poor imperial troops to their grim fate and does not teleport any units. They suddenly feel very alone and are filled with a sense of dread...

The Necrons, woken up by the sound of the approaching tanks, materialize just in front of them, led by none other than the Deceiver himself.

Strategy roll: Necrons

The Deceiver sustains fire on the massed imperial troops and manages to place 3 BMs on 3 different formations and to destroy 2 vehicles.
Phalanx 4 then launches a devastating assault on the screening Sentinels (losing 3 Warriors in the process and breaking).

The Manticores then retaliate and wipes out the broken Necron Warriors, who won't be back this game. Despite numerous BMs, the Leman Russes manage to activate and fire at the Monolith formation in front of them, destroying 1 Obelisk and breaking the fearless Monolith (who, unsurprisingly, moves forward).

The Monolith formation close to the Pylon advances and fires at the Leman Russes, destroying 1. The Eques formation then comes out of a portal and declares an intermingled assault on the Leman Russes and the Land Speeder. 1 Wraith dies, but 3 LRs and 2 Land Speeders are destroyed. The Necrons win the assault and the Imperials only barely manage to escape (I almost had them cornered!).

The Pylon fires at the retreating Leman Russes and destroys one of them (thanks to the automatic BM for shooting at a formation). The Manticores are then assaulted and defeated by Phalanx 3 coming out of the last Monolith.

1000 points of imperial troops could do nothing against 2000 points of Necrons.

End of turn:
The surviving Land Speeder and Leman Russes rally. One Monolith leaves the table.

TURN 2

Biding their time, and content with the fact that almost 2/3 of the Necron army are now stuck on one side of the battlefield, the Deathwtach units decide to wait before teleporting.

The Heavy Destroyers fire at the 2 surviving Leman Russes, breaking them, and the Deceiver then wipes out the last Manticore and the broken LRs.

The Land Speeder zooms along the table edge and enters the Necron deployment zone.

Phalanx 3 and the Pylon both go on Overwtach, and the turn ends there (no picture, as nothing really happened that turn).

TURN 3

"Hey look, we can teleport too!"

The Deathwatch finally appears on the battlefield : Kill Teams 1-4 near the Necron Tomb Complex and Kill Team 5 near the Imperial objective 1. Out of 20 dice rolls for teleportation, only Kill Team 5 picks up 1 BM! The Deathwtach really uses superior technology!  :(8:

2 Monoliths and a Pylon teleports to defend the tomb complex. One Monolith picks up a BM and breaks immediately.

Strategy roll: Inquisition

Seizing the initiative, Kill Team 1 assaults the Pylon and destroys it (no critical, too bad...   ). Kill Team 4 then proceeds to assault the unbroken Monolith and destroys it too, losing only one stand.

Near the Imperial blitz, one Monolith moves to position itself close to the Eques formation. The Heavy Destroyers then use portal sync to declare an intermingled assault on Kill Teams 2 and 4. Unfortunately, they are annihilated by the Marines, giving them an easy BTS point. Bad move on my part, I guess... ???

Kill Team 5 then moves so as to take control of the Imperial objectives 1 and 2, and I realize that Flogus has now 3 points (BTS, T&H, Blitz). So do I (BTS, T&H and Blitz too), so I stop to think for a second. I have more activations left than him, so I decide to let him move first so that I can react to his moves at the end of the turn. So for a moment I only activate unimportant formations (putting Phalanx 3 and the Pylon on Overwatch again  :D ), while Flogus puts Kill Team 3 on Overwatch and, more importantly, moves his Land Speeder right on top of my Blitz objective : I now have to assault the LS with whatever formation comes out of the Tomb Complex.

Which is exactly what I do, destroying the poor Land Speeder (in spite of a Sniper shot on my Pariah from Kill Team 3) and contesting my Blitz to Flogus (who can no longer react) at the same time.

End of turn:

NECRONS 3 (BTS, Blitzkrieg, Take and Hold)
INQUISITION 2 (BTS, Take and Hold)

AFTER-BATTLE REPORT

Well, a very close and enjoyable game once again. In spite of severe initial losses, Flogus put up a hell of a fight!

I think this battle illustrates quite well the fact that Necrons are easily outmanoeuvered once they have teleported on the battlefield: by teleporting his Deathwatch units so far from my troops, Flogus rendered them almost useless and almost managed to reverse the tide of the battle.

I think things might have gone better for Flogus if he had not massed his troops around his blitz. By deploying them in small, independant groups, he would have forced me to scatter my forces and would probably have had more chances of survival.

And now I'll wait for Corey's soon-to-come revision of the list.  :D

Thanks for the report Hojyn!

Yeah, Necrons do seem to have a little bit of trouble with enemies that can also teleport as seen as both your Deathwatch and my Deathwing report. (Or maybe they just have trouble with armies with the word "Death" in their names...)

I wish!  :D

No, this piece of terrain comes from Ziterdes, who makes excellent terrain and boards at reasonable prices.

very nice indeed.  i'm intrigued by your necron models.  there aren't any mass production necrons and yet you have plenty ( i suppose you could use warmaster skeletons...?) but not only that you have also put the glowy green rod on your gauss weapons.  truly impressive.  this begs the question, where on earth did you find clear green rod that small in diameter?  i like your army and think you've done great.  2 questions about it as a whole, 1. why run the 40k scale c'taan (i honestly don't know...if this is a dumb question please humor me).  and 2. what was the driving factor in your choice of basing.  this seems to be a very hard thing to get "right" in epic and while i don't care for that much "open" ground your bases seem to be very clean and in scale and you even managed to neatly paint the edges.

Hi,

and thanks for the compliments.  :)

Quick answers to your questions :

- I used "Chaos Androids" (old plastic models found in the "Stompa" box) for my Necron Warrior. They fit perfectly but are rather difficult to find (now that's a euphemism! :(8: ) ;

- The green rods on the Gauss weapons are only painted : Snot Green coat followed by Scorpion Green highlights. Simple and effective, especially at this scale ;

- I run the WH40K C'tan simply because I like it and could'nt find any better substitute. It is perhaps a bit bigger than it should be, but then again who knows how tall a C'tan can be ?

- Basing : I've tried all sorts of bases for my army (Goblin green and green flock, Graveyard Earth and green flock, Scorched Brown and GW sand, Snakebite Leather and GW sand...), and most of them look fine (except the Goblin Green/green flock combo, which I really don't like and will be repainting soon). For my Necrons, I've gone for the Scorched Brown/GW sand option, as the Scorched Brown is dark enough to contrast with my Necrons.

Long answer to your question : I've made lots of pictures of my Necron army, just follow the links I provide in THIS THREAD.

Very nice Battle rep.  How balanced do you think the Deathwatch list is?

Do any of the points need tweaking?  Are the veterans too powerful? (I see they were all stuck topgether)
