As usual I have been busy at work designing variations on my nid list, trying new ideas, seeing what can fit into a 2K7pt army.
whilst doing so my thoughts turned to the Zonathropes. I really like them (heck they are cheap AA platforms) however I'm a bit disapointed in their ability. True they are nice and cheap, but I don't think that a 5+ save really does them justice.
In 40K they have a 2+/6+in save 2 wounds and T6, plus they are immune to instant death (since in epic they are either in synpase range or hiding somewhere)
Also their ability to leviated over anything that gets in their way seem to be missing.
I'm thinking that a simple upping of their save to 5+ & Inv or possible even 4+ & inv and the addition of walker should fix them.
However am I the only one who thinks they need a fix?

I have no objections to bumping the armor save to make it consistent with 40K as long as the points still work out correctly.

Some more information -
They're not T6 in 40k; they're the same as Marines.
While things like Terminators get an Invulnerable Save, there's a whole squad of them. Killing a Zoanthrope is about as difficult as taking out two Terminators, though it does have a slightly worse invulnerable save. In Epic, Termies come in squads of 5, while Zoanthropes are one to a base (I think?).
I'd say that they're deserving of RA, since in my opinion it's the sheer strength of the armor that counts for that in Termies. However, they don't need 4+, since that's what 5 Termies get. How does 5+ RA sound?
I don't think they ought to have an Invulnerable Save. In 40k, it's as bad an invulnerable save as can be, and almost never matters. It's hardly comparable to the combined resilience of 5 Termies to massive guns. While a Tyrant gets an I Save from its Warp Field, it also represents twice as many wounds in 40k.

I'd go with 5+ Armor. And either Invuln Save or RA. Take your pick. As far as skimming goes... Yeah, Walker would likely fit just about right. In 40K scale they're just infantry after all (not even monstrous creatures), so it'd make sense in Epic for them to be relatively unaffected by terrain. How many Zoanthropes does one 'zoanthrope' choice represent anyway? If you go by the Vehicle basing rules it's just 1. But I have a hard time picturing the Tyranids fielding just 1 of these things as an AA battery. They're awesome in 40K as a combination of 2-3 of them, where they can ravage entire squads, and if it were 2 or 3 it'd make sense for them to be RA 4+. Dunno if it'd matter much beyond the feel of the army, really. I just like the idea that the only Tyranids seriously fielded as 'single models' are the really big ones (Carnifexes, Hive Tyrants, Heirodules, etc.)

Whoops my mistake on the toughness . Serves me right for trying to quote from memory.
I agree that it is hard to decide how big a thrope brood should be. They fall in the same catergory as Biovores and Raveners. They arn't common brood creatures, but they really arn't your normal image of the uncommon brood creature. They are more along the lines of reasonable common.

Quote (Hena @ 28 May 2006 (16:29)) | RA it shouldn't be. Invulnerable perhaps. But I can live with current stats if IS would require price change. | Why not RA? An individual Zoanthrope is as tough to kill as 2 Terminators (well, almost. The invulnerable save they get is worse). If a 'brood' of Zoanthropes is supposed to be 2-3 of them, which would fit IMHO, then they'd easily be as tough as a squad of Terminators. And a 5+ RA isn't that great. Against standard shots that's about as good as 3+ normal. Against MW it's better, but not a lot better. I could see it being argued that it wouldn't be fair because they'd be the only race around with AA weapons which have RA (Well, not quite. The Necrons have that too, but they have other drawbacks for their's).
