Doesn't matter if no one knew what an Allegiance is. Once LucasArts/WoTC DO find it and see it, they will most likely initiate a lawsuit.

Even if the creator did not purposely add any movie title words that might trigger LucasArts search engine, "Star Destroyer" is kind of a big giveaway.

True - you are right- I won't post any more such links of this guys work because I would hate to see him get done for producing figures that are n't currently available for the benefit of other fans.

Cheers

Aren't you better telling him to start selling his Honking Class Battle Cruisers under their proper name?  :;):

The person who has been designing and making these ships has been very careful not to use the SW name or do anything that would suggest these are nything but generic wedge shaped starships.

Err, kind of blown that one by calling it Allegiance Class Star Destroyer hasn?t he?!

Hand up here who knew what an Allegiance was? I certainly did n't.

Do you reckon that the term Allegiance Class Star Destroyer is patented??

The designer was careful to avoid using the movies title anywhere on his page. What else would trigger anything for Lucasarts/WoTC search engine if they are looking to protect their patents.

Cheers

James

I was really referring to the Star Destroyer bit.

Don?t want to get the guy in trouble.  Just hinting that maybe you should suggest he call it an Impish Class Space Destroyer?or something.

Hi

I think the same thing has occured to him as well. He has just pocted up on SCN some Starmada stats fror them and also listed what he was going to be calling them:

Ascendancy Class Dreadnought (Allegiance Class Star Destroyer)
Terror Class Heavy Battleship (Tector Class Star Destroyer)
Inquisitor Class Battleship (Imperator Class Star Destroyer)
Dictator Class Battleship Escort (Dominator Class Interdictor)
Harrasser Class Heavy Cruiser (Harrow Class Star Destroyer)
Vanguard Class Cruiser (Victory Class Star Destroyer)
Vanquisher Class Heavy Destroyer (Vindicator Class Star Destroyer)
Interruptor Class Destroyer Escort (Immobilizer Class Interdictor)
Dread Class Destroyer (Dreadnaught Class Cruiser)

New name first with original SW names in brackets.

So far he has finished 1, almost finished 2 others - lets hope he gets to make all nine classes!!

Cheers

James

For anyone who might be interested I just noticed that the store over at Starship Modeler has some relatively cheap 1:10,000 scale rebel blockade runners and nebulon b frigates that might work pretty well as escorts.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what leads people to believe that Star Wars ships have drastically shorter range then ships in BFG? Admittedly in RotJ the only major engagement we ever see is at relatively short range (Starting at only a few thousand KM and later closing to a few hundred) but that was supposed to be EXTREMELY short range according to their own fluff. I can't think of any reasonable reason to believe a Turbo-laser would not be capable of firing at a target tens of thousands of KM away really, you might have trouble hitting things but I wouldn't expect you to have much more trouble hitting things with one then with any other weapon at that range. I, personally, am all for ISDs who's range roughly match those in BFG, it feels about right.

If you want some rather neat images and rough size-comparisons of starships from a lot of different genres (including a couple BFG ships and most of the Star Wars ships) check out http://www.merzo.net/

Agreed, it would feel odd if a Star Destroyer would be so much smaller then a BFG cruiser.

Odyssey Slipways

I have ordered some recently plus some SD's. According to US Postal tracking service they have left UK customs. So hopefully will be delivered sometime in next week.

Last Friday I got to see Odyssey's 1:10,000 scale Imperator SD in the flesh for the first time. It's expensive (US$ 62 plus postage) but looked well worth it. Just have to wait for the guy to fix problem with his mold and make some more.

Did n't get to play with/against Imperator SD though. It sat on the sidelines and watched some Klingon ships take on Minbari. You have to love crossover games!!

Cheers

James

Okay,

So I found these Star Destroyer models which, while wildly out-of-scale, are perfectly proportioned for a little cross-over.

On a side note, and totally not consequential except to show I'm a total nerd, those are NOT Star Destroyers. Those are Acclimator Troop Transports. They're like Space Marine Battle Barges in terms of military use, transporting the Republic's clone-army across the galaxy to and from warzones, as well as providing orbital assistance to ground-based combats and a staging base for further assaults.

Strange how different those acclamators look from the ones in the Empire at War pc game. ???  From memory the "Empire at war" acclamators look like the ones in Episode 2 but perhaps those ships are supposed to have evolved as well? I must admit that I haven't read much background fluff for the Star wars ships...

Those are Acclimators like the ones in Ep 3, which are a bit different then the ones in Ep 2, yes. I'm not entirely sure what the point of the design change was, but those ships are the ones that you see during the opening scenes of Episode 3, during the fight over Coruscant. Which, as I understand it, are supposed to be Acclimators. They're also not very large, fluff-wise, they're only supposed to be 400-500 meters long. The VSDs are something like 750 meters IIRC, and the ISDs are around 1200 meters. COuld be a little off on that (It's been a while), but I know the Acclimators are significantly smaller then VSDs which are smaller the ISDs. On a side note, those are fairly neat models in any case. I like the army list too, though it's been so long since I played any BFG I don't know I could really comment on it balance-wise.

Actually, it's all been a theoretical exercise of late.  I had to finish out my semester, so I haven't had time to properly playtest the list.  However, since my final exams are over, I should be getting in a few games.  I'll make sure and post any results/thoughts that might come up in the course of playtesting.

I have seen some stats for Star Destroyers for Starmada X game which I have just started trying out. I now have a small rebel & Imperial fleet in 1:10,000 scale. Produced by Odyssey slipways- very nice resin indeed.

I might be tempted to stick to 1:10,000 rather than getting 1:20,000 scale SW ships as well. However I still need an Imperator SD in 1:10,000 scale, which are currently OOP- hopefully mold will be redone soon.

Cheers

James

Wow. 1/10,000th scale? That'd make for some rather large ships in the upper limits... An ISD would be something like 6 inches long at that rate... And an Executor SSD would be over 6 feet! Not that it wouldn't be really impressive to see.    Probably a good size if you wanted to play with the smaller ships, though. Far better then the 1/100,000th scale you'd need to make things like the SSD and Death Star reasonably-sized models.
