The only decent way of using these models in BFG is to totally ignore the exact backgroud and try and keep the 'theme' of star wars alive. After all, in starwars you have planetary shields and corvettes capable of leveling unproteced planets! Not to mention that fighters can fly in hyperspace!

So I reckon you should atribute hits and worth to the models of the ships by thier size, which also means the Death star doesn't have to be a 100shield, 1000hit fleet killing monstrosity! Make it playable for gods sakes!  :)

Cheers,

RayB

Death Star could have 100 HP, slightly better than an Ork Hulk following a lot of the special rules of the Hulk and the Ramilles. As far as armor is concerned, 6+ all around would be the best one can get during the game. Also it would have shields but not that much better than what the Hulk and Ramilles has and it should have lots of turrets. And it should have one weak point. Something that the attacking player using bombers/torpedo bombers should call out if they want to hit it. 6+ to hit/penetrate and a further 6+ to hit the small target. :p

Okay,

I changed the Death Star some, added some fluff, maybe a couple other changes.  I still need some escorts.  Found some here, but the costs are prohibitive.

Take a look at the updated fleet list and remember comments are welcome.

Finally got around to finishing off the fleet list.  Added escorts, but will probably proxy until I can order some models.

I'm awaiting an order of flying bases so I can get a few playtest games in.

Here's the latest list.

Finally got back around to this project for a while.  Got my ships mounted on proper bases so I can run some playtest games.  I even converted up a ImpStar II by filing off the original turrets and replacing them with some beefy Chaos turrets, as well as replacing the bridge with a Chaos Cruiser bridge.  I'll try to get some pics up in the next few days.

I'm pretty happy with how the fleet is rounding out, although I still need some escorts and I have no idea how I'm going to convert a SSD.

Adios,

Jon

Well, those corvettes and nebilon frigates fill the role of escorts surely?

Yeah, they cover the role of escorts.  I was referring to the fact that I don't have any models to represent them yet.  I found a place that makes some scale resin models, but I've spent my hobby allowance for a while (Who wants their wife mad over miniature spaceships?)

So I finally got some pics up of the ships.

I inked and repainted the Imperator Class Star Destroyers and converted up an Imperator II.

Here's a comparison shot (Imperator CB in the foreground):

And here's the Imperator II CG by itself:

So now, the fleet consists of

3x Venator Class SDs
3x Imperator Class SDs
2x Imperator II Class SDs
1x Death Star

So I still need to get some escorts and build myself an Executor Class SD and the fleet is done.  This may take a little while though, since I have a few other things on my plate.  I will, however, be able to start getting in some playtest games soon.

For those of you that don't hang out on Starship Combat News, if you are interested in gaming SW on a 1:20,000 scale check out this page:
http://www.knightwire.com/3.html

I believe that the pictures at the bottom show an Allegiance Class SD, a Victory Class SD and an Imperator Class SD.

These are made in resin and I have spoken to someone who has received an Allegiance and apparently they are very impressive- even more so in the flesh.

Cheers

James

Just bear in mind that it is figures amde by a SW fan for other SW fans. I have heard that WoTC are planning on doing a SW Spaceship game and they are likely to do ISD/VSD at some point. I don't know what the licencing arrangements would be but WoTC might not take too kindly to other people producing (unlicensed) SW product.

The person who has been designing and making these ships has been very careful not to use the SW name or do anything that would suggest these are nything but generic wedge shaped starships.

Cheers

James

He's going to have a problem explaining how these "beyond reasonable doubt" cannot be mistaken for a genuine SW licensed product, should Lucasarts or whomever decide to sue him.

That said, they look absolutely brilliant! I certainly wouldn't mind getting my hands on some.

Hand up here who knew what an Allegiance was? I certainly did n't.

Do you reckon that the term Allegiance Class Star Destroyer is patented??

The designer was careful to avoid using the movies title anywhere on his page. What else would trigger anything for Lucasarts/WoTC search engine if they are looking to protect their patents.

Cheers

James
