What about BFG? That seemed to take off extremely well in the US compared tot he UK.

Actually, thinking back to my own childhood gaming experiences, SM/AT was bigger in my area than WHFB.  It was second to 40K, but definitely beat out the fantasy stuff.  Space Hulk and Talisman were also huge then.

It may have took off, but the level of support it received from the GW stores and GWUS compaired to that received by 40k ,for example, was much lower.

I think of the first Games day I went to. How many tables featured 40k or WH games? In fact there were more tables of LotRs then BFG, Epic, or any other non-core game. And mind you I am talking pre-reg, offical tables not the clud sponsored stuff.

I am talking about offical support not local support by players. Yes, when I was younger some of those games enjoyed some popularity, but the GW support for those games was not as strong. I remember going to the GW store they put up in Santa Monica (a joke by the way) and 40k and WHFB were everywhere and then one small rack had the SM minis. When I asked about a SM mini I did not see the GW Storebot said "Oh I don't know. Hay have you tried 40k, it is great." or some such babble.

The store supported 40k and WHFB.

That is what I mean.

I like E:A, never liked SM2, but liked SM1 and E40K ... From what I can see, you can use all era Epic minis ... the rules generally address that ... Go for it ... :D

Back when I was playing, the non-specialist games were bigger than 40K and WHFB, no-one played 40k (1st edition rules were dire!) and Space Marine, Space Hulk were the main games. Ahh the good old days?

Oh well ebay here I come!

Thanks for the info guys.
I think I'll buy some minis and worry about what ruleset later on, the only slight problem that remains is... ?finding some players!
I'm in South-East London, UK

Hi. All players looking for opponents could check here:

The Players Index

Good luck, and add your details.
