Late in March we held a demo of Napoleon's Battles II at the local game store.

The situation was France 1814.  French forces are being attacked on all sides by allied forces, Prussian and Russian.  The French have to hold them off as long as possible and inflict as many casualities to the Allies.

This is not really a battle report because they guy with the camera couldn;t come unitl late.  But it shows some nice shots of a Napoleonic wargame and I think they always look really cool.

So enjoy the pics...

Here is the situaion half way through the morning.  The Prussians are attacking my right the Russiand my left and center.  I have a minimal screening force against the center Russian Corp, The Guard by the way, as they have a river to deal with.  My two other flanking Corps are trying to but time and waiting for the right moment to strike.

French reinforcements are arrieving on the scene.  You can see a long cloumn at the bottom of the picture.  The guard Cav I believe...

The biggest threat is that Russian Corp on my left flank so I throw my that French corp into the attack.  It may not work but it will by precoius time for more forces to arrive.

"I was too weak to defend so I attacked"   :D

There was a Russian Division in front of my troops but we sent them back to rear to contempate their love for the Tzar.

The Russian player moves the reminder of his Corp up to threatend me, lucky for me my defense is anchored in the towns.

A broad view of the Battle at the momnet.  At the top you can see the French reinforcements arriving.

At the bottom left the Prussian Corp is moving on my right flank, heard my Polish troops.  We were pulling back from them every turn waiting for the right moment to strike back.

The Polish guns duled with the Prussians guns and won the artilelry duel for us on that flank.  I love the Poles.

This shot is of the center of the battlefield.  I had palced miniaml defenses here.  Two guns and two brigades on infantry covred the river crossing.  But across was the Russian guard.

In time their artillery would drive these brigades back.  French troops of this era don;t hold well under intense fire.  Those poor boys.

Now to make matters worst a fresh Bavarian corp arrives on my left flank.  Turn coats scum!!!  :D

Just When I had the Russians on the ropes they get more help.

Oh well only thing for me to do now is ignore them and hope the reinforcments can deal with them.

I must press my attack on the Russians.

Aren't the blue uniforms pretty.

Well at least the Guard cavalry is prepared to ride into glory to slow down the Bavarians.  It's a waste of find cavalry but what can you do.  Then the infantry hasn't caught up yet.

Back on the left flank my infantry is completely commited against the Russian corp.  The Russians are being pushed into a smaller and smaller pocket.

The Guard light cavalry have already charged once and the Bavarians are conisdering how loyal they are to the Aliied cause with the Guard Heavy Cavalry ready to charge they next Bavarian unit that takes a step forward.  Any volunteers.

:D

Well one Bavarian unit was brave enough tot step forward and as such the Guard Heavies charged.  You can fell the ground shake when they did.  Of course that might have been the truck that passed the building outside... :D

One lone infantry unit has been pulled from the fight with the Russiands to help support this attack.

unfortuately the Bavarians disordered the unit when it launched it's atatck and all this charge did was buy time for the French.

On the right flank, the French attack was a stunning sucess.  You will noticed the lack of a Prussian division that once was in front of me.  The Prussian counter attack also failed and now one lone Prussians infantry brigade comtemplates how to hold against a French Corp.

Lucky for them there is no time to exploit this sucess.  Shortly after this shot, the Russians began crossing the River and units had to be redeployed to deal with the crisis.

The Russians just keep getting smaller and smaller. Their back are really too the river now.

The lone French Brigade who attacked the Bavarians is doomed.  Sorrounded by three Bavarian Brigades, there is no hopew for them.

The French Guard cavalry keep charging and have slowed the Bavarian advance.

At the top of the pcitures you can see the towns have been cleared and the Russians are crossing the river.

But hope is not lost.  Just above the Guard cavalary is the lone Brigade of the French Old Guard.

Led my Friant himself.  Napoleon orders them to attack.

The Russian Guard Jager assault the river corssing.

The following turn saw the game ending move.  The Old Guard launches itself against the remains of the Russiand Corp.  The broken Russians fallback.  The Guard Cav throw themselves against the flanking Bavarian units to protect the Guard.

They break one Bavarian unit and ends any hope of that Bavarian division counter attacking the Guard.

The Guards were posed to finish the Russiand corp and at that last moment the Allied army commander.  Blucher himself rallies a Russiand Jager unit.

He shakes them into line an attacks the Old Guard!!!!

The battle is intense with heavy losses on both sides. But during his third charg with the Jagers Blucher, the Mad Hussar himself is shot dead in the head.

The Old Guard are froced to fall back with half their number on the field dead and wounded.  The Jagers are completely destroyed.

The allied army now leaderless begins to withdraw, without Blucher's hatred driving the troops forward the subordinate commanders decided to wait for further reinforcements.

Napoleon controls the field this day against the odds, but the allies have an endless stream of troops while the troops lost here today can nevr be replaced.

The end!

Hope you enjoy

Vive l'Empereur!
Really spectacular, Commissar! Napoleonics look great, and this is no exception. Nice job winning the battle - it looked a tough one at the start. :D :D :D

What a great report! Thanks Luis. ?It made me want to march to the Sound of the Guns!

I loved the pics with great minis and terrain, and the narrative that went with it was very descriptive.
May your Eagles be held high in Triumph!
