In all, I'm very glad I went to this Tournament, even if my army didn't perform too well!  :D   I've learnt a few things about Epic Tournament army selection:

- Go for as many activations as you can - I couldn't, because I'd taken the Warlord...
- Units like Warlords or Gargants can be a bit of a mis-judgement, for the above reason, unless you can use them very aggressively and are able to deal out maximum punishment!
- Air support is essential, whether transporting assault formations or hassling gournd formations.

When it comes to Tournament play, the most important things I've learned are:
- to concentrate on the objectives - not just to dish out as much damage to your opponent's formations as you can!
- and to keep in mind the formations you can't see from your opponent's army, like flyers

And has doing so badly put me off playing Epic?  Not at all!  In fact, going to this tournament, being able to play a few games (for the first time in ages!), my respect for Epic has grown in huge ammounts.  As a gaming system, it is so deceptively simple - games flow so quickly and smoothly, yet it takes a lot to master and play at its most effective.

I'd just like to thank Matt Otter and the Dragon Slayer's Club for organising and hosting this tournament, and all the other players who made the day so enjoyable.

Hopefully I'll see some of you again - and meet some more players - at another Epic tournament soon!  But I don't think I'll be taking the same Iron Hands Space Marine army again somehow [skulks off to finish painting his Imperial Guard army]...  :;):

Nearly forgot, here's 'Tiny' Tim Hunt's Speed Freeks - lots of classic Ork vehicles!  Sorry, Tim!

Christ, does Matt do nothing but paint different chapters of marines? :)

If you have the results send them to PG for entry intot he battlestats system.

Otherwise - damn fine report! Gutted than the winds of time and Gulf air shifted me to Bangladesh :(

Ah well, heres hoping I'll be there for the CC!

Nice report Firestorm.

My dice rolling wasn't good for most of the games, but turned round completely against yourself! Poor judgement had more to do with my lossing the first two games.

My first round game went 4 turns, but could have ended on the 3rd
My second game against Eldar was effectively over in the first turn with me lossing over 50% of my army destroyed or broken  :80:

As you say I still enjoyed the day and look forward to Call to Arms as the next tourney I can make. Will I be playing marines? Probably not!

Great report and pictures Firestorm! Thanks for providing them! By the sounds of things you weren't using the experiemental skimmer rules - that would have slowed those eldar scum down a bit!

May I add the club challenge is an excellent tourney?
27th May, two years ago over 20 players, last year it was in the teens, help put it up to the 20's again!
This year at warhammer world it seems. In fact I'll put an ad in another thread.

Was a great day, even if I got slightly lost getting there. (I blame multimap)

3 Interesting and diverse games against 3 nice chaps. What better way to spend a Saturday.

It was also nice (well for me  :;):  ) to actually win a tourney game 5-0 as opposed to being on the recieving end. Last tourney i went to I got lost 2 out of 5 games by that score, losing virtually  my entire army in the process.

So 2 wins one against a ground pounding Marine force with Reaver, the other against Storm Serpent led Eldar.

1 loss to an air dropping Marine force with 3 Thunderhawks and Landing Craft.

Well chuffed to get 3rd as opposed to my usual bottom half or last position.

Full report to follow.

Firestorm:  Hey.  I can't remember where I saw it but in skimming the various posts about your army and this tournament, there was something that I think you posted that may have been a mistake.

I think you made a reference to being limited in air assaults because you had a Warlord titan.

Marines don't buy Thunderhawks out of their "air and titans" alotment.  They are part of the core army list, so you could add a Thawk to that army if you wanted.  (and yes, I know you said you were done painting Iron Hands, so that's unlikely)

OTOH, it may have been someone else that posted it.  It didn't hit me until later and I couldn't remember where I saw it.
