Being slightly insane I have decided I want to convert my own fireprism models from the FW falcons. This is mainly because the SG fireprisms gun looks too big plus the FW falcon is such a nice model. Anyway I was looking for advice on how to do so.
I was thinking that I would build the main part of the gun from green stuff but have a thin metal rod down the middle to give it strength. However I'm not sure how I should connect it to the turret.
I also wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on where I might be able to buy a premade crystal as this would probably be the hardest piece to make look good. If I have to I'll construct one but I'm not sure how. Is there any sort of modelling substance that can be carved that would do? Has anyone used milliput (does this still even exist?)
If I suceed in doing this I'll try to post some pictures up but I doubt it will be happening soon.

I'd use some kind of bead for the crystal. It should be possible to get a nice looking facetted (is it called that in english?) bead for next to nothing in most craft stores. You could then add a tiny blob of green stuff to fill the holes in the ends. Paint the GS silver or some other nice metallic contrasting colour to set it off from the crystal. I think you could glue the bead on instead of the laser lance without much conversion needed. If you then wand some kind of emitter device you might look at some kinf of 40k scale pistol type weapon.

Check out cheap necklace and accessory stores for young girl jewelry (good luck explaining THAT to your gf/wife!). You can get a string of about 12 good beads for about 3 pounds in the UK.
