THat model was done the the VDR rules, rather than the Tau 'dex specifically - it may have been produced as part of a Tau expansion on VDR, as I can't remember if Tau were included in the inital VDR release.

I'd say its also the place JG got the concept for the Swordfish from, not vice versa.

I have a buddy in Mexico (phindar around these and SG parts) anyway, I asked him to take a look at the GW spanish website for me.

He said its a reproduction of the same GW article that hit the US WD some time back. Its being used to showcase what VDR is for.

For reference to those that didn't get the WD article I'm referencing - The article was amongst several that showed what could be done from the Tau VDR rules in 40K. As it was in WD, it was published by GW of course.

Just for reference too... VDR rules are specific to 40K game system - not a codex or game version. So although a new game 40K version 4 has come out and a new Tau codex is on the horizon - if not on the streets in some parts (Steele!) the VDR rules are still used as written in the current system of 40K.

All VDR vehicles are opponent permission rules in 40K - same as aircraft, superheavy tanks, super heavy fliers, and titans in 40K. In summary - for any of these - make sure your opponent is cool with you using the rules before your pick-up game. Each of these rules use must also be specifically allowed by a tournament judge in order for them to be used in a tournament.

BTW: Jervis, Chambers, and others are both on record for stating that VDR was used to frame many a 40K vehicle unit and initially pointed out for playtest in 40K on more than one occasion. It has served them as a starting point when they are pointing things out for 40K, not as a rule of thumb.

Cheers,

I've never been keen on the wingless nose design. How the hell would this thing move? It would have no aerodynamics :D
