This would appear to be the last race in xenology to cover as a fleet for BFG!

Fluff summary:

Thyrrus Propmasters!

From Segmentum Pacificus (active in the Quadrus Glabora)!

Able to change the colour of their bodies at will (like a Lictor!!!!!) But choose to be as bright and obvious as possible!

(I speculate that thier home world has been wiped out by tyranids (since none can find it and that lictors use thier cameleonic ability))

Loads of energy weapons!

Luminous War Machines!

They are really weird in the motives, they just want a really big death count on both sides! They fight to be as 'showy' as possible to please thier god (Khorne would make sense!)

No mention about thier space craft, but they are warp capable! And given the fact that thier weapons on the ground are pretty spectacular/and deadly we can assume thier ships will be aswell!

So I'd imagine a Squiddy ship to be unbelivably heavy armed but weakly armoured! (they want a serious death count on both sides!)

They'd also have double boarding value to represent the numerous crew (for the heightened death count!)

Possibley 2 hits less than your average cruiser/BB.

4+ armour is a must!

Low shields but normal-high turrets!

Super lances! (If a capital ship is destroyed by a Squiddy lance roll an extra D6 on the catastrophic damage table (so 3d6).

Also 3D6 when ever a squiddy ship is destroyed aswell!

Energy weapons batteries (normal weapons batteries, just limited to 30cm/45cm) maybe double all range shifts (to be super deadly with 15cm!)

I'm not sure about ordnance! There won't be any torps, but what about AC?

They'd also be pretty easy to pick up and should give the +1 for Enemy contacts all the time!

Squiddy ships should never disengage!

NO BFI (or only 5+ saves).

They should always be on a special order of some type, this can be done by giving them high leadership and only suffering -25% to firepower when on restrictive special orders.
Because Lock-on should still stop them from turning thier weaponary should be LFR!

AAF should be dramatic! +6D6cm!

Ramming should also be encouraged (but given that they are so weak and would be sacrificing significant firepower they should get some sort of bonus! How about double number of hits and a reroll to damage! Perhaps even make it easier to ram (give them big bases! All the capital ships at any rate!)

Sound ok so far?

Cheers,

RayB

As long as they don't mess with the Swarmhood, they can party all they like!

I'm going to hjave to disagree on theoir motives.  From what i read it seems that it isn't so much the kill and be killed lots plan they have, rather it is a totally inexplainable one.

They do retreat, see the transcript on the page after the anti squiddy poster.

If they are followers of a chaos god then I think the dark prince would be a better bet than Khorne.  As it is I think that they are trying to follow some plan of the old ones, thus the whole galactic stage thingy.

Finally arn'tthe propmasters squiddy tanks?

To be honest, the all-the-galaxy's-a-stage thing seems more akin to the Laughing God than the 4 Chaos gods (Xenology does hint that other alien races apart from the Eldar have a similar pantheon to the pointy-ears...)

Or the Deciever, for that matter (Cegorach would be better, though)

Now, it wasn't that the Thyrus have 'no' care, it's that their extensive battle plans seemed to largely revolve around show. Not necesserilly lots of death, but poignancy and 'wow' factor.

So an army number hundreds of thousands would descend on a small monitoring station whilst only a handful of squiddies would attack, head on, a dozen titan legions.

Whilst it was quite an interesting idea, it seemed very...odd. I don't see how we can represent them in BFG or Epic:A in any form which we, as non-Thyrii would ever hope to play properly. When I read the article though, my main though was: use the Imperial Guard list(with some modifications), but as thyrus models. Then play for show, not to win...

That's the closest I could figure it. Ship-wise though, I'm totally scuppered.

It coul;d be possible to play in character, but it will be up to the player rather than rules.

I've done this alot and have had fun.  I've had my epic nids charge headlong across a river (seeing lots of gaunts get swept to their death) and 40K guard use close order drill in the face of ordanance heavy armies.

For a start, their fleet would be one of two things:

1: 1/2 their enemies fleet size
2: Double their enemies fleet size

victory conditions would be as follows:

1: double Vp for each enemy ship destroyed/crippled
2: Double VP for each friendly ship destroyed/crippled (enemy receives for destroying them)

Subplots:
(dependent on the Size as above)

1:
Spectacular Death
The Thyrus receive +100 VP for each plasma reactor overload they cause in the enemy fleet, or +200 Vp for each Warp reactor breach.

The meaning of fear
The Thyrus receive +10 Vp for each point they beat the enemy in a boarding action.

Irony of Death
The Thyrus receive +50 VP for each point of damage the enemy takes due to its own weapons (torpedos, novas etc)

2:
Alone and afraid
For each enemy ship crippled but not destroyed, the Thyrus receive +50 VP.

glory in death
the thryus receive +10 Vp for each point they LOSE a boarding action by.

a good day to die
For each thyrian ship destroyed, the thyrian playe receives +50 VP.

something like that.

It forces you to play in the weird way the thyrus are supposed to act.

This race interested me more than most in the book - mainly because they actually seemed alien. I think that it is possible to get them 'in character', but it would mean changing the victory conditions, for example awarding victory points for certain styles of play or other 'show' scenarios, rather than actually killing the enemy.

One thing I was thinking off for squiddies inEpic was the reversing of some victory conditions.  For example  You get BTS if your most expensive formation is destroyed (this would get the force inconsistancies you would expect from a squiddie engagement)  Possible something like that could be used in BFG.

I was thinking more along the lines of general points. So, for example, they would get victory points for each vessel destroyed by a critical (or even each critical inflicted), no matter what side the ship was on, or for a ship from either side taking on 3-1 odds against in a battle, etc.

Thier Motives are bizare, (you're right it's not really Khornate!). I'll have to give it some more thought. But I think the high death count style should be applied (it's more dramatic).

(What about random special orders! Roll 2 special order dice and pick a result!)

Cheers,

RayB
