From the net... claims of what is in the Tau Empires book... Treat it as rumor - nothing more...
-Feel No Pain USR upgrade available -2+ Crisis suite unit save upgrade -GW didn't make carbines Assault 2 -GW didn't give FW squads the option of taking burst cannons -Slow and Purposeful USR for the BSs (move and fire now!) -Kroot hounds limit for each squad (up to 12!!!) -Kroot hound initiative 5 (better than marines) -The Pope-mobile's Honorguard are upgraded to T5 -Honorguards are BS4 (so hit on 3's but increased cost) -If an Ethereal is killed any tau unit that takes a morale test due to his death receives 'Preferred Enemy' USR vs the current opponent. -One of the combat suit upgrades is Targetting Array? (Crisis, Broadsides, and Stealths will all hit on base 3+ with this upgrade now) -Targetting Array is Support Equipment combat suit upgrade -Stealth Battle Suit unit can take 1 support equipment upgrade (can you say targetting array? Imagine 18 shots from 6 guys hitting on 3s - without a marker light) -Farsight's bodyguards can go up to 7 models (didn't read that but the shopkeep mentioned it) -Farsight gets 1+ crisis suit units in his army instead of 0-1. - One of the Cdr upgrades allows units up to 12 or 18 inches away to use the Cdr's Ld. Don't remember the exact distance. (Interesting, 40K Tau do take the IG special command radius rule after all!!) -Ethereal 'Inspiring Presence is now for all morale and nightfighting checks - not just 'break tests'. (This is huge...) -any tau unit that can see the Popemobile-act is subject to USR Stubborn -Most honorable Shadowsun can fire each of her Fusion Guns at a different targets -Shadowsun's battle suit comes with a 4+ inv save. -the 3-point star weapon is guess 18 and only scatters a single d6, -the 3-point star weapon may never benefit from a markerlight (unlike every other weapon in the army). -no rule difference between the old or new stealth designs. -the Vespid stingwing gun is S5 AP3. (Marine killer) -Vespid get wing (jump pack) and Fleet
Cheers,

Vespids Type Infantry Speed 30cm Armour 6+ Close Combat 5+ Firefight 4+ Weapon Neutron Gun Range 15cm Firepower AP4+ Notes -
Notes: Jump Packs
Sound about right?
Certainly seem like decent 'marine killers' (it's good AP so against a small formation...perhaps it should be AP3+}
Doesn't seem implausible to me. Their leader should obviously come with Leader(and perhaps Commander...}

Xisor,
You might want to put something like that (unit proposal for E:A) in a seperate thread so that you get the proper attention.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks for the idea - definitely something we need to start thinking about as the Vespids in 40K were meant to solve a problem the 40K tau had.
Cheers,

Just preordered the Codex. It?s due to beginning of March , and they give you 1 free Ethereal and 1 Squad of the Hunterdrones for free. As I don?t play 40k , is someone interested on the Models?
Cheers! Steele

Well, had to pre-order mine too. On the US side, they are charging 20.00 + 3.00 shipping, it won't ship until March 20th, and no free models.
Still - we have a date. In a month - I'll be updated on all things Tau from the 40K Core Design perspective.
"...and the clouds did gather."

More...
+ + + Commence Web Rumors of people that claim to have read 'Bunker' copies of Tau Empires + + +
-FWs with a LOS to an ethereal can reroll morale, Night fighting (first they have to see him) and Targeting Priority. -Battlesuit equipment is broken into weapons, support items and wargear. Those that are allowed to take wargear can take up to 100pts. Things that fall into the wargear category are hardwired items and drones. Some items are special issue, which means only one per army. Irridium armor and the stimulant injectors are examples. -Drone controllers, regardless of whether it is support or wargear, is free. If it is support it still takes up a slot, though. Shield drones are more expensive and marker drones (which are networked and hit on 4s) are moreso. A positional relay allows the player to choose one reserve unit to come in on a 2+, but no other reserve units may come in. -Sensor spines allow the vehicle to enter difficult terrain and ignore dangerous terrain tests. I didn't see a restriction on movement. -Battlesuits come with Acute Senses. Crisis and stealth get Deep Strike. -Suits can also take vectored jets (whatever it is called), which allows them to do hit and run. However, only lone models can take it (ICs or Monats without drones). -If a unit of vespids has a surviving leader they can use markerlights. However, they are expensive and fragile. -Shadowsun comes with 2 shield drones and a com drone, which boosts her range to 18 for peeps using her ld. Also, the drones are marked as 3+ armor, but isn't marked as inv. Her stealth suit gets a 4+ inv as well as it's 3+. -She and Farsight were both students of Pursight (no stats on him). Farsight took to one part of his teaching and Shadowsun took to a different. Apparently Shadowsun hates Farsight for leaving the Greater Good, and it talks about those to eventually clashing. I'd have to go with Farsight on this one. He's got range and CC advantages. However, she only has to hit him once and get past his inv save. He's got 3 other models to kill before she has to worry. For those that have access to IA3, the prices in there are what they are in the new codex for items that relate. (price in points, not jink).

...and more...

| Nope. not at all. To get the morale reroll they have to see him which includes rolling for nightfight where applicable. So he has to be seen for his rules to work.

Drones now move as controller, so FW and Sniper drones dont get a jetpack move.

True. I read it the other way the first time I saw it.

And it is one per army....

Yah, that was kinda cool really. Used IA3 points for the last 3 tournaments
while mentioning to
people that it was for all intents and purposes the new dex.
What are peoples thoughts so far?
All I have really used is SMS on all of my fish, yes it makes them very very
scary. But it does use a
lot of points for many non scoring units.
Looking forward to using my snipers though, that will be fun!

More new Tau Empires codex testimonial from folks on the Tau 40K forum - treat all as rumors folks...
+ + + commence transmission + + +
Having played a number of games with the new codex, I'm very happy with it. Markerlights are fantastic and I'm about to order some more Tetras. SMS on Devilfish are great, but everyone already knew that. Here's what I've been fielding. Shas'o R'Myr with 2 shield drones 2 x XV8 Shas'ui with Plasma rifles, Missile pods, Multitracker, Targetting array 2 x XV81 Shas'ui with SMS, Plasma rifles, Multitracker, Targetting array 3 squads of 12 FW (all pulse rifle) each with Devilfish with SMS, Mutlitracker, Target lock, Targetting array 2 Tetras fielded individually with Target lock, Targetting array Hammerhead with Railgun, SMS, Multitracker, Targetlock Hammerhead with ion Cannon, Twin Burstcannon, Multitracker, Target lock Overall, a very unimaginative list but a bit of fun to test out the new codex with a common combination. The Targetting arrays combined with the markerlights of the Tetras is great! I played a 2000 pt Biel-tan list with the above (about 1600 pts) recently and despite making several tactical errors and mistaking the mission (I was playing a recon, the actual mission was take 'n' hold.....opps), the army held up very well. The ion cannon is better priced now and, again, combined with markerlights...blah, blah, blah. Although, I'm replacing the twin burst cannons with SMS. Shas'o R'Myr is great but I'm going to try him with a bodyguard with some specialist equipment. In other games I've tried out the Broadsides with Adv. stablisation. Very useful....not a game winner...but useful. The sniper teams are great fun, and cause severe confusion in the enemy ranks. I used 2 teams against Black Templars and combined with Tetras and Pathfinders, really, really enjoyed seeing a large crusader squad pinned down for not one but two turns! Unfortunately, by turn 3 in every game so far, my opponents figure out that the marker lights are my key to success and make a point of removing them. Next to try is more of the specialist items, stealth team with fusion and a squad of FW all with carbines! Overall, I'm very happy with the new codex. It gives more flexibility and character to the Tau, but I've yet to see anything which will unbalance them one way or the other.
