Though I can't speak for WMN I was asked a similar question recently.
Apart from using the TARDIS now and again I have found the following helps.
a) Don't watch TV, especially mindless TV, all the time. I now only watch about 5 hours a week (if that) sometimes more if I am watching a film.
b) Don't play the games console or video game just "one more time". Bubble Bobble takes a good hour now... and "one more game" means one more hour!
c) Keep things tidy, my best thing is my GW painting table, which I use, in and out of the cupboard, so setting up is a few minutes, packing up less than ten.
d) Don't mess, focus on what you are going to do and get it done. I can spend ages fiddling with bits and pieces and not actually get any modeling or painting done.
e) Little and often, rather than spend hours I may paint for an hour and then do something else.
f) Right tools and paint, having good brushes makes life easier and painting quicker. Having lots of different paints, avoids the need for constant mixing when doing highlights and so on.
g) Motivation, decided what you want to do and get it done.
Some people say do a single model, I actually have a few models on the go, but not large amounts and not lots. So I paint three Skorchaz, four 40K Grots, a single Rhino and so on... These then actually get finished.
As for a social life, well I spend a lot of quallity time with my family and go out quite often._________________ Jimbo

I heartily endorse a and b - we dont do either during the week - period. And then little on Sundays (the movie while ironing sort of thing)
The big killer for me is the PC and the broadband internet connection right next to my painting desk. I waste hours every day on it doing "wargaming research"..

At risk of hi-jacking WM's thread, I'm very strict about getting my painting work done - in the evenings during term-time weeks (when I'm in uni halls), or when I'm not in uni during the day when I have time. That's why last week was such a frantic mini-making time for me! It helps to have fairly strict targets - 'this month I will paint xxxx unit/formation(s)'
Other time is spent with my girlfriend (it's valentines day, btw, I hope everyone who is 'attached' remembered  ). We do a lot together, and time together is especially important when I see her at weekends term-time having been at uni during the week - so that's why there tends to be little making and painting of minis at the weekend.
Anyway, back on subject, WM I agree about the Termies, and the Assault Marines. I find it very difficult and fiddly to convert Epic Marines (i've done a couple, that was hard enough!) so resculpts or new versions would have been appreciated. Not that GW are likely to now...

An update with more assault marines.
Most are just minor variations with repositioned arms. It is relatively simple to do and does a lot to break up an otherwise slightly "flat" looking stand.
As always Jimbo is "almost always right" When you think about it it is pretty scary how easy it is to spend hours in front of the TV or Computer doing next to nothing.
I guess motivation is the key factor but once you sit down and actually get to work it is quite amazing how much you can actually get done in the time you'd normally spend surfing the net or watching a couple of youre favourite sitcoms.

I must say.... I only get painting done while watching TV, and I get an aweful lot of it done. I need something else or I get bored while painting. |
I really like having stuff like Discovery Channel or similar running in the background. Although you miss the visual side I guess the slightly meditative state you're in, while concentrated on painting, make you remember the stuff from the TV better. A nice way to get smarter AND get some work done.

Just an addition, I often have a DVD playing in the background when I paint with the director's commentary on which I find is a good way of listening to them.

i like the titans, they are cool. the colours look great!
the devestator marines are excellent, as are the assault marines.
the missile launcher blast sheild looks good tome, any smaller and you would struggle to know what it was supposed to be.
the assault marines are what i envisaged mine looking like eventually. i was thinking of altering the angles of the legs and stick wires up their backsides too, to try and make them look like they are landing into combat. of course thats when/if i get round to it.
Taz: does "wargames research" actually mean looking at models thinking
1, wow thats cool
2, wish i could make mine like that
3, wish i could paint mine like that
4, how cheap can i get one on ebay
(repeat process about 10 times)
5, damn i just spent all night on here, im never gonna paint anything

Thanks Doc. That means a lot coming from you as your work is one of the main inspirations for what I've been trying to do.
I found that the repositioning of arms was surprisingly easy with the assault marines. Doing legs sounds more tricky. I want to try that with some tacticals but I'm not sure I can pull it off. Oh well, I guess it is still worth a try.
Tonight I did some more painting on the Eldar titans. Slow but steady progress.
