I've finally had a chance to take some pictures of my work so far.

Army

I've actually got 4 full phalanxes (1 x Lord, 1 x Pariah, 3 x Immortals, 6 x Warriors) and 2 with just a Lord, 3 x Immortals, and 6 x Warriors, but didn't think you'd be that impressed by the bulk stands. So, this is representative.

My approach since just about everything is a proxy, is Lord is a chopped up SM Commander, some holding Orbs, some with Staffs, the Pariahs are Chaos Androids (Mithril Silver), Immortals are Ork Boyz (Shining Gold), and the Warriors are 1st generation Space Marines (Boltgun).

Obelisks

Obelisks

Obelisks 2

I attempted to stay fairly true to the concept sketch in the list, however, I also wanted to go with easily accessible materials so that the process could be duplicated. The jury's still out on these.

Monoliths

Monoliths

Monoliths 2

I wanted to build something that was representative of the shape, but also doable en mass. So, I resorted to plastic card and sequins. Still, they were the most difficult part of the army so far.

C'tan the Deceiver

C'tan The Deceiver

I got a vision of him one day and decided to run with it. For the most part, he's exactly what I wanted and probably the only thing I'd do a little differently is separate him a little more from the ground so that it's clear that he's floating. Still, I'm very happy with him.

Next up is an AEonic Orb, some Tomb Spyders, and some Destroyers.

I've seen some of it up close and I can honestly say it looks better. I think the photos mask some of the highlights which are much more noticeable at arm's length. Great stuff. really.

but didn't think you'd be that impressed by the bulk stands.

Actually, I was kind of hoping for a shot of the infantry, to see how they look from arm's length view. Maybe next time we meet (Wed?).

Obelisks ... The jury's still out on these.

Naw, they look great! Unless you mean "the jury's still out" on the build process.

C'tan is great! Nice color. Love the "mirror mask". Nice and smooth.

Thanx Dale! What I didn't realize is that the light from the flash reflected back from the flat surfaces and made them appear much lighter than they really are.

I wanted them to have a metallic look, but dark, so they have a wash of purple ink, then green.

So it appears that if I keep them out of the direct light, I get what I want.

Still, their recognizable as Monoliths and that was the goal.

Excellent work!

Shucks, well, thanks!

I wanted these to be easy to reproduce as I might end up making another 6 - 12 more. The real work was in figuring out what they ought to look like given the available materials and also create something that other people could replicate without too much effort.

So in case others haven't figured out yet (because I know that there are people who are good at this kind of thing):

1. Two GW 2 cm stands one on top of each other to make the rectangle

2. Some rectangular plastic rod for the "arms"

3. One big glass bead for the top

4. A WFB shield that is the "suspender" of the big bead, IOW, the big glass bead sits on it

5. Four smaller plastic beads for the arms.

Pretty simple really and you can paint them up any which way you want.

I decided that I wanted the Monoliths and Obelisks to have the same treatment, so black basecoat, drybrush with Boltgun, including the little jewels, purple ink, then green ink.

The big jewel got a coat of thinned Dark Angels Green as did the little jewels, then I did a drybrush on the edges of the big jewel with Mithril Silver, then another thin coat of Dark Angels Green.

Along with "world peace and a pony", ( :D ) I want G/W to produce a Necron Army ... but since the first two (?!) are more likely ... I think Doug's DRM Androids will make perfect "Doppelgangers" ... Sorry G/W ... you dropped the ball again ...    Bloody Losers  :p :;):

They are going to make them.

It's just going to be a couple of years before they are released.

As noted up close these look even better.  The obelisks blend well with the monoliths and appear pretty size appropriate.

Are you going to try for destroyers (I may have missed them) and pylons Honda?

Well ... we'll wait and see ... but I'm guessing after the Feral Ork release in Feb-Mar (?!?!?!)  ??? ... will be the last Epic we see for quite some time if ever ...  Hate to say it but before the release of E:A, some of us "old time SM1/SM2 types" have predicted E:A would Epic's "Last Round up" ... We'll see, but waiting years for something to be released is not a good sales technique.  However, with G/W only really supporting their moneymakers (WHFB & 40K, LotR is on Life Support) ... I don't have much hope for Epic.   Fortunately DRM has picked up the ball ...   But here's to hoping ...
